I attended my grandfather's funeral at Arlington yesterday.. He was a Vietnam War veteran 101st Airborne. He was the only true solid male role model in my life... As I remember the events of yesterday, Roar from the engines as the freedom riders escorted the convoy of cars with flags, the beautiful ceremony ... Listening to this song now, it sounds like a soundtrack over the memories of yesterday. Thank you, Tom

I hear you I’m also a trucker and I was just listening to Tom MacDonald today on the way home from New York to Michigan 7-29-23. It’s not always the easiest job I have to drive at night and at least twice a week I have to fight sleep even though I get plenty of sleep it’s just not easy driving those hours watching those white lines.😮

Here's the thing... When you're born in a country, you may or may not love it. It's happenstance. But when you were born somewhere else and then become a citizen, you usually do it because you want to.
I'll be honest... I didn't want to for almost 20 years. I came here because I married an American soldier, but I felt foreign for many, many years. When we got divorced after 22 years, I realized that even though I could have gone back "home" at that point, I no longer wanted to, because in those 20 years the US had become HOME. And I was finally ready to pledge allegiance and mean it, so I became a citizen. I used to say I was Italian... Now I say I was born and raised in Italy. There is a difference.
I imagine the same goes for Tom -- He was Canadian, but now he's an American who was born in Canada. It's not just semantics... It means something deeper, maybe not to the citizens "of convenience", but to all those who truly pledged allegiance because they felt it was the right thing to do. We CHOSE to and we meant it.

As a former 12B I am ashamed of the state of this nation. My family has been giving our lives since 1760 to the foundation of this nation, served in every campaign this nation has embarked upon, the blood and tears that out family has given has bren part of the mortar to have made that foundation, and I absolutely appreciate the message sent in this music.

My mom's ancestors came to the Virginia colony in 1637 as slaves from Ireland and worked for no pay on an English Lord's tobacco plantation. They escaped 8 years later and entered into New France( Quebec) through Maine. They became voyageurs trapping their way to the St. Mary's river with a French Jesuit priest by the name of Father Marquette in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario where they took him across the rapids into an Ojibwe settlement on Sugar Island into what is Sault Ste Marie, MI where they married into the native Ojibwe community. Six hundred years later we still live on the same land where my ancestors built a wickiup. My family has fought in every war since the French/ Indian war, the Revolution where some of my mom's family stayed in what is Boston. My great great grandfather was a sharpshooter in Company K of Michigan the only Native American regiment in the whole Civil War. My grandfather fought in WW1, two uncles and my father fought in WW2. My father went on to fight in the Korean War and then Vietnam twice. My clan is the bear clan ( warrior clan) I am Anishinaabe/ Irish and French and we are still here and still fighting for this country from inside and outside threats. We will always fight and die for this land that so many of my ancestors died trying to protect. This country was built on the blood and bones of my ancestors and we are as American as you can get!
