    I have a TCX Advanced with 3 sets of wheels: the stock 700s with 33c cross tires, another set with 28c slicks, and a 650B set with 2.25" mtb tires. Best 3 bikes I've ever owned!

      @@henryp7187 I'm running stock SRAM 1x Apex, with the stock 11-42 cassettes on the cross and 650B wheels, and 11-28 on the road wheels (EDIT: Corrected the range on the road cassette)

      Loved my tcx until i broke the alu frame. That beast could mount 700x45 tires on a cx frameset, was really fantastic, a mix between a modern gravel with beefy tires and a responsive cx geometry, looooved it!!

    nice, i went for Hutchinson toro cx 47 in the end, for the time being works well over the Southdown's and muddy patches. I did have some fun fitting my 650b mtb wheels with Maxxis DHF 2.3 on my Canyon Grizl though was totally overkill and sounded like a tractor :)

    on that note, what do you think about putting dropbars on a hardtail mtb/xc-bike/etc. My commuting is 90% forest roads/gravel and I think it would help with comfort and give more options in terms of hand positions. I would like to keep the suspension to safe my wrists and shoulders.
    looking forward to your upcomming adventure ✌🏻

    I want to be fit enough to say a 1/1 gear ratio will get me up anything! On my next gravel bike I'm probably going to get GRX 400 to get a 30/36 lowest gear! 😅 #regularhuman

    • @catshoemike
      @catshoemike ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jobsworth Jobber my bike came with GRX400, and yes, I agree it's Tiagra and clunky (compared to my mechanical 105 on my road bike) . However, it works. I put precisely that 10 speed SLX 11-36 on both sets of wheels, and it works just fine, the 2x GRX 400 rear mech will take it no problem

    • @GuybrushThreepwood79
      @GuybrushThreepwood79 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Jobsworth Jobber that's the point. There are no 11 speed Shimano 11/36 cassettes. They think we're all pumping out pro watts. My current gravel bike is 9 speed Sora. The only problem with it is no hydraulic brakes. The number of gears doesn't bother me as long as I get the range of gears I need.

    We put bigger tyres on my bike and it barely fits. Barely. On rare occasions it sees mud, I do need to clean it off straight away. I have a mountain bike for real off road, that other bike is more for light unpaved roads, slightly icy, around town conditions in bad weather

    Questions.
    How tall is a 650 +50 mm compared to a 700 + 45 or 47mm
    in height and gaps in the frame
    ... is there any close measurament/ equivalent?

  • @markb9571

    I assume the main difference between London and Northern gravel rides is you should be on a road bike in London and you should be on a MTB in the North :)

  • @theothervalentin
    @theothervalentin ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you gain any tire clearance with 650b in the back? I have the same frame and felt like the chainstays are almost parallel so smaller diameter would not extend the clearance. I run 700x45c pirelli cinturato gravel S which measure 46mm . Not much room to spare. Got the same frame in size M. You might wanna give the pirellis a go

    The Bodge of the Century was done by Dan at GCN about five years ago when he mounted a third lever to the bars of his road bike for a dropper post. And he even called it the Bodge of the Century. But maybe it's a cycling thing in England, everyone coming up with the Bodge of the Century. 😀

    I have Scott SubCross Tour with Force 26" MTB aluminium fork. Right now it has f 29x2.15 Vittoria Mezcal and r 29x2.10 Terreno XC. It has Avid bb7 brakes and 180/160 rotors. It has Richey flared 440 dorpbar with Sora/9spd XT with Microshift 11-42 cassette. 1x setup with Raval Bike Fibonacci sequence oval 40t chainring. External dropper post operated by sora 2x shifter. Weight is close to your bike if it had a 5l water bottle attached to it, but it's able to take beating and I race it agianst XC bikes.
