Henceforth, when referencing "Game of Thrones specifically... "Best things" & "Season 8" shant be allowed to occupy real estate within a sentence or reasonable facsimile. The context of which they are used matters not. Who know what mind melting sentences may rear a vile visage with them cavorting so close together. Consider this your only warning...
A couple free hints for those looking to play the game: 1. Don't underestimate the knife, and don't just carry one as an escape tool when an enemy grabs you. Lickers, in particular, really don't like getting slashed with them, and you can always drop a zombie on its back with enough headshots, leaving it vulnerable to slashes while grounded. They do eventually break, but they break faster if you use them to break free from grabs, so try to slash whenever you safely can to get the most out of them. You can unlock an unbreakable knife by finding and destroying certain objects in the world, 15 of them to be exact. Keep an eye out for them, and an ear if you have good headphones. 2. Headshots can be effective, but only if you let your crosshair shrink. Your shot will not only be more precise, but it'll do slightly more damage and I think it'll have a higher chance of exploding their heads for an instant kill. This is to encourage a style of shooting where you stand still and aim, just like the original games. 3. Mr. X does not like flashbangs at all. Lickers don't either. 4. Speaking of those guys, they're also the most reactive enemies when it comes to sound. Mr. X can hear you running when you're in the same room as him, but otherwise, it takes gunshots to attract him. Lickers can hear you running and they're very fast, but they can't follow you into other rooms, and you can walk past them as long as you don't touch them. They'll technically hear you walking, but they merely crawl towards you in search of you; don't freak out when they snarl and turn towards you, because they technically haven't found you yet. I could go on, because I've played this game almost as much as RE4; it's highly addictive, and unlocking the infinite minigun and infinite rocket launcher feels so good :) EDIT: TH-cam decided to add extra line breaks. How nice of them -_-
You don't NEED the knife. I've only done it on hard (didn't bother with normal) and got through it fine. I just ran a lot (and crept for lickers). When I did an A+ run, I learned to use it on Birkin, but that's all really (except as a defensive item).
And 4. DO NOT JUST USE ONE SAVE FILE AND KEEP OVERWRITING OVER IT, you'll inevitably die, you'll fuck up, it's ok, but, it's possible to screw yourself and save after you used up all your ammo on something you'll come to realize you shouldn't have, maybe you didn't understand one of the boss fights til all your ammo is gone, the game will resupply you but you can make your life easier by reloading a section and doing it the right way
Yep, lickers can be stunlocked with the knife, and the old let zombie come real close and blow it's head off with the shotgun trick still works. I don't think Mr.X managed to hit me more than once due to me studying his habits properly, in the end he is very predictable.
@@punishedgondola1814 Yeah, I found with Mr. X, clearing the station before triggering him and quietly opening doors will keep him off your tail most of the time.
@@DeltaSpark8 I was getting in a spot where x would chase me into a room full of zombies and lickers all bc I needed to grab something and it became so frustrating I almost quit playing the game but I reloaded an older save file before he was triggered like you said and just went around killing as many zombies and lickers as I could boarding up what I could etc to at least make those mob points more doable and I feel like it cannot be emphasized enough that a little extra time in the beginning to really clean out some zombies makes a world of difference
Its when one of them falls over a railing, lands about thirty feet down then gets up and comes after you again. That's when I knew I was in a spot of bother
+@@TheCriticalDrinker+ The fact that some of them can take as many as 17 headshots from Leon's pistol before falling over and their head doesn't explode is what got to me. Even if you're only using normal 9mm FMJ out of a shitty VP70 that makes the rounds underpowered thanks to excessively deep rifling; there's not gonna be anything left of the skull and brains after 17 of those suckers hitting a brain pan.
@@cnlbenmc despite the abundant videogame logic and seeming like classic zombies, this is actually explained. RE zombies are an inversion of regular zombies in some ways, the main thing being that their metabolism is basically supercharged, burning non-vital tissues and creating extra muscle and bone density. The REact or whatever that further mutates them into Crimson Heads (I wish more games than REmake 1 had those) is the logical endpoint of this for most zombies. Yes, it's more or less an handwave, but they did actually bother to explain it.
6:57 - Well, you can target limbs, which are much less resistent than heads, in order to cripple zombies. Blast their knees off and they won't be able to move as fast and well. Blast their arms off and they won't be able to grab you. 8:38 - Combining red and blue herbs gives you a temporary boost to your damage resistance, so there was _definitely_ a use for them and that's why you have so many. With less room to move around and more chance of being grabbed by enemies, having a resistance buff prepared when venturing into a zombie-filled hall is much more useful than hoping you get to survive without wasting all your healing items. I do agree that the lab is a bit too short of an area, and the identical scenarios are bullshit. That's a real missed opportunity right there. And we're missing William Birkin's dog form! That's a real shame. Still a spectacular game, and I feel a constant itch to replay it again and again. That's the sign of a classic for me.
Blue and Red herbs combined makes a Shield... - That's why you get more Blue, they basically realised that Blues were useless in the first game, so they buffed them to have more purpose... - Play again, my pissed-up friend!
Yeah, I thought the same as him at first, then I realized that and it was a huge difference in my second playthrough, especially against some of the bosses.
That’s been the most interesting thing to watch about these RE2 playthroughs. Seeing who actually paid attention and learned that red and blue is a killer combo in this game and who just assumed they were useless because “RE Vet” and never utilized them.
But it doesnt take half a brain to realise the game even tells you that blue herbs up your defence aside from curing poisoned status. I played all the RE games and even in REmake i still combined the blue herbs with green and red to make the most potent remedy even though it was useless if i didnt get poisoned by the spiders. REmake 2 just made the whole pointless process of combining all 3 actually matter lol
@@bigl2328 You can also get poisoned by snakes, plants and certain hunters. There's one stupid snake in the REmake, just past the pool you empty on the way to the residency, that always gets me
Blues were far from useless. Poison status will fuck your day pretty quickly. They're more useful in RE2Make because Poison status is much less common and now they give you the temporary shield as an additional perk.
Once they ditched the frustrating control scheme of the older games it became better, but they also ditched the horror which made it worse. RE 7 and this remake looks like what they should've done when they ditched the controls.
Fiendish Thingy... try it out bro...ive seen it on sale for ps4 a couple times... its good bro...my homey hated zombies and resident evil...he thinks its dumb....hes a destiny 2 guy.....which i think that is the dumbest form of games... he played the re2 remake...and now...he wont stop asking questions about its story the plot...its history and lore....and like Vlad Piranha mentioned....the only other one i can put a high pedestal without sounding like a fan boy is the RE1 remake for ps4....horror wise....it holds up...but it does still have fix cam angle...but graphics wise it does hold up....try it out bro...i mean on metacritic its holding the number 2 spot on both critic and actual players....meanwhile red dead 2 is only still up the critic side and not the actual players....
@JRPGFan20000, If you think remake Claire is bad, you've got to see the psycho Rambo Mary Sue they turned Lara Croft into in the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy. I don't think remake Claire is as bad, but I definitely agree that this depiction is weaker compared to past Claire depictions. Still loved the game honestly lol.
That’s because they weren’t originally going to be implemented in the game at all. They were added last minute because the toxic RE fan base were complaining when they announced at E3 that there would be no A and B scenario. Capcom added something just to please fans, and people still complained. I actually really enjoy second run, it changes things up enough to make it feel fresh. And since all of the story content was in both campaigns, there isn’t really a lot more they could have added without adding completely new content, which would have been hard since they were only 7 months from release.
James M wanting a game to have two scenarios where you only get the full story by completing both isn’t toxic if it’s a remake of a game that had that in the first place. That’s called wanting it to be faithful.
Honestly, I didn't like how disconected the scenarios felt. In the first game, it felt like you were playing a single story, but from a different angle, finding the other characters where you'd expect to find them after playing the first scenario, seeing somewhat the consequences the other character had on the enemies, maps and scondary characters. In this remake, it just feels like you're playing the same game all over again, finding the same enemies in the same places, doing the same stuff and going through the same routes, but interesting enough, finding different stuff in the same places (like a grenade launcher where it was supposed to be a shotgun). In the first game, you'd find the character's weapons and equipment in different places, so you could feel each one of them were surviving the same place, but through different routes. Overall, I just felt like I was playing the exact same thing with a different character, and it was kind of a bummer
Tbh i felt like the late game got rushed coz crapcom was pushing them but I also disliked how they made Claire a dude with balls who is not afraid of anything she should have been made more human-like Leon.
One of the only feasible improvements I'd recommend would be the soundtrack. *_Oh wait, they released the classic soundtrack on release._* Damn, Capcom was on point. ;)
Capcom is truly a powerhouse for their franchise games. The same treatment for RE they give to Monster Hunter and they do a damn good job with that franchise.
The first RE was awesome. Great use of load times. The second was amazing. It grew the world and added such depth of game play. I wish I had time to play games. I’d love to play this remake.
We'll you're gonna need ALOT more time since it takes 14 years to kill one fucking zombie even though you've literally put awhole clip in its brains.. lol everything else about the game is great though.
Really, RE2 Remake is one of the best things to play that you might've already played, it's totally a monster of its own and the fun is in the experience. The only thing it was missing was the line from that trucker at the start. "That guy's a MANIAC.. WHY'D HE BITE ME?!"
I remember that demo, too. I was 10 when it came out. Played the first having no idea what was going on. Suddenly spooky green human monster attacks me, and I am hooked. Checked out the RE2 demo and when the zombies smashed through the shop window and ate the gun shop guy, I was like WHOOOOA. Man, those were the days. REmake 2 was amazing but I wish scenario A/B was better, and I wish we spent a bit more time in the city. And I also hated how scenario B skips straight to the helicopter crash scene. Boo.
@@nostromov7892 no it doesn't actually respawn enemies thats not true at all and it only has a small amount of adaptive difficulty which is what it's called and if it was to hard or annoying assisted difficulty exists for a reason I like this guy's reviews but sometimes he just makes shit up
Like you I was a huge fan back in the ‘90s & played this on my Nintendo 64. I was so excited to find it had been remade & loved going thru as Leon. This is an excellent review of a classic game.
Another area where the remake stumbles IMO is the enemy variety. I was really looking forward to seeing the evolved licker, more so than the regular licker, only to find that it wasn't even in the game at all. Same thing goes for the moths and the ivys, who now only has one type. Other than that I completely agree that the biggest misstep is the fact that the story is actually less coherent than the original. If you're going to include the A and B scenario, you need to commit to it. Otherwise I would have preferred to just have one campaign for Leon and one campaign for Claire. This is indeed a great game by itself, but as a remake it kinda falls short. In a way this is actually the complete opposite of the RE1 remake, which took everything from the original and expanded on it. This seems more like a reimagining which, speaking for myself, is not what I had in mind when I said that I would like an RE2 remake. I don't mind them shaking things up a bit, but I think they went a little to far in some places. Oh well, I hope Capcom will take these things into account with the RE3 remake. Anyway, sorry for the ramble. Great review and keep up the good work.
@@hikari67 I don't even think it's that good of a reboot because it needlessly cut stuff instead of trying to improve it or retool it in a way to fit the new design.
Super Metroid already showed us how to do a remake the right way (come to think of it, it is essentially a remake of NES Metroid). Zero Mission is a watered down version of the original, and it kinda looks like it only exists to fit into Sakamoto's twisted perspective (Metroid Fusion is really close to be Other M-lite, so the seeds were already there). There was no reason to remake that game again, since it already exists.
@@Neathyr the Super Metroid is the Pinnacle of the 2d Samus adventure and as mentioned before the 3ds remake of returns is the weakest in the whole franchise
I too thought it was odd to find so many blue herbs on my first playthrough. Next time through I realized they gave you a defense buff at least, and made much better use out of them.
I didn't like fearless Claire, she is way too fearless in cutscenes. I wish she and Ada were more like normal humans. Leon seems like a regular guy, he's trained with a gun but thrown into a scenario completely off to what anyone is used to. Claire's like, oh a big scary monster I will confidently jump into the ringer with him with not even an anxious sigh.
Kyrious Well Ada is fine cuz she knows what is actually going on, with BOWs and Umbrella and all that shit, but Claire can be mistaken as a dude with her massive balls, like bitch just jumped into the pit like it’s no big deal.
I think its because Leon is meant to represent you on your first play through, intimidated by the unknown, Ada is the bit of comfort the game gives you that someone understands and can fix the situation. Then Claire is you on your second play through with a better understanding of the world around you, making the challenges seem less intimidating as the first time around.
Yeah claire too different Her original theme is family and young from the little sis to the protective big sis, goes in unprepared and is intimidated Slowly growing into a protector and resolved to keep searching for her brother as code veronica continues But nope all gone here cause strong female trope, it's all so much weaker than old
No goddamn joke. This game was damn near flawless for how it managed to re-capture the spirit of the original, while also improving on it in every conceivable way. I got every single achievement for this game and unlocked every item, and legitimately loved every minute of doing so. Accurate shooting is still rewarded but they didn't want to make headshots the undisputed king, so there is no damage multiplier for them. (At least, not on zombies.) Instead, a headshot on a zombie has a small chance of being a critical hit which instantly blows their head off. The chance is never very high, but the possibility of killing a zombie in a single shot, or just a handful, is so good it's often worthwhile anyway. More to the point, leg shots are extremely effective on zombies, often staggering them and sometimes blowing their legs clean off. In wider areas, reducing a walking zombie to a crawler can make the place dramatically easier to navigate while being easier than killing them outright, and even in tight areas a downed zombie is much easier to deal with than a walker.
I loved the original and I love the remake too but story B is a huge let down compared to the original. In the original when you played story B you had to deal with different situations for example you took the train in story A so you had to call it back first but that led to some complications. In the remake you going thru the same things just the items scrambled around. Extremely lazy
The Tillman Sneaker Review they were different though, for example Leon A Claire B didn’t have Sherry get implanted all because they were getting chased by the Tyrant instead, Because Scenario B was about the Tyrant and Scenario A was about William Birkin, whereas in the remake Leon’s story is just about the Tyrant and Claire’s about Birkin, you get the exact same story regardless or whether you play them first or 2nd.
Completely with you on story B it wasn't vastly different to story A like the original RE2, there weren't a huge variety of enemies too. The giant Moth not in the game...disappointed as there wasn't the same urge to replay like the original.
Supposedly, Capcom did not intend for this remake to have B scenario campaigns. Just two campaigns split between Leon and Claire. Someone with a brain must've pointed out that thus is not how Resident Evil 2 1998 was like and Capcom put them in. But the B scenarios do feel lackluster compared to the original's. Doesn't ruin the remake in any way.
@@Gruntvc oh ok sounds like we weren't even suppose to have any changes whatsoever, I guess that's why they aren't that different, you think people working on the remake would have played they original or at least new how it worked.
They wanted to do that but solid leaks reported the game being in dev hell, they had to cut a lot of scenes, areas and stuff, in order to finish the game on release time they had to mix A and B together. Then to throw illusion powder to the fans they made this idiotic Bis scenario, adding the guns, unlocking one already done area and intentionally cut the last boss. That was a lame shot from capcom but people eat it. There's so much wrong in this game i can't call it good even after platinium it, 100% and speedrun as well. Too many negatives, very bad work, i hope they'll have enough time now for 3.
Would it be worth paying twice as much for nearly twice the content or so you want twice is much for the same price? Lol. Most people wouldn’t pay twice as much otherwise capcom would do that I’m sure

Eyyy thanks Drinker! Glad to hear a happy drunk rant again. o7
I loved watching my cousin play thru this game when I was a kid. And my experiences playing the remake is something that will honestly stay with me forever
Shooting the body part does give advantage, especially for speedrunner, 1-2 bullet at the knee, you can outrun any typical zombie. For leon: Shotgun can generally pop out head with 1 bullet and 1 shot dog, don't save much on the ammo of shotgun, just use it. Magnum can be situational, usually more recommended in 2nd run. Flamethrower is the most effective to defeat the 3rd stage of birkin. Grenade and flashbang should be mostly save for last battle of mr x. For claire The basic handgun should be use with speedloader, but if got dlc gun, much better until get to parking lot to get claire hp3. The grenade launcher flame round very effective at one shot zombie, use it wisely since no powder can create the flame round, but don't be stingy. Acid round 1 shot dog, best use as well to shot anywhere at 3rd stage birkin. The mq11 is situational, also much better use at 2nd run. Sparkshot oneshot licker but only do this if one licker in the area or if they are farther from each other. It also make the second stage birkin easier. Grenade much more effective for stage 4 birkin, flashbang should not be an issue for claire as she does not really need it much.
There's definitely a dynamic difficulty. It's pretty frustrating. The better you play and the less damage you take, the less damage your weapons make, and the tough and more damage your enemies deal.
hey, we played the classic resident evil in Siberian caves too. Sure, we got it by Chinese pirates but nonetheless we were fascinated by it too. By the way zombies are not corpses there, they are mutants - that's the reason why they are so resistant to bullet poisoning. Finally, you are quite rewarded with aiming at zombies knee, duh.
6:51 Shooting them in the head rarely works. The best thing is aiming for their knees. It will either drop them on the floor, forcing them to crawl the rest of the time, or at the very least stun them long enough for you to move forward. That's clever design - as everyone who has played RE4 would aim for the head.
Keep the game videos comming, realy enjoying your stuff. In addition, I think the blue herbs give you a resistance buff for a short time if consumed mixed with a green herb. Therfore the surplus of them.
Yeah. I never played. I’ll have to catch up. But your pretty convincing and its a really good review. Glad I found your channel and your a joy to listen to because you make sense and that’s refreshing. That’s all I have for now about this. Did you see HBO’s 2 hour farewell to GoT yet. I’m watching it today. I’ve heard it’s pretty damn good. I’d like you to crack open an Old No. 7 and review it. Kudos to the cast and crew, who, in the final analysis, did an amazing job overall. The writers were shit and you know damn well the actors knew it, but they do have to look after their careers. But the cast and the crew did an amazing job. I’ll go away now.
I was swimming in ammo and herbs when I went into the final boss battle. And I was NOT playing on easy mode. And I cleared out almost every room in the game. Ammo and healing items are plentiful, so long as you play carefully.
It was my favorite game of 98....and the remake is probably my favorite game in the last decade...not fan boy bias...but ive bought game after game after game from various studios and genres and all of them felt boring after the first day....this game is a master piece....i love it....i loved the old one....and i was truly worried would capcom do it justice....and they went above and beyond expectations....ive hated capcom for a good decade...but they did it respectfully and with honor....this game gave me a such good scare in the first run i was literally getting chest anxiety...its a good thing ...when it comes to horror...it means the scare and tension is strong....i will say by the 4th runthrough....it wore off....but the fact i played all 4 scenarios shows its replay value was still there like the original.....cheers to all the 90s kids who got to be young again...now lets hope re3remake gets the same treatment
I've already watched this video twice, but came back to watch it again as I got the itch to re-play...and this video is still as fun to watch as it was when I first saw it a year ago. Magnificent work. I wish you would do more video-game videos. At least Capcom is re-making RE4, so there's a chance you'll do a retrospective on that at some point (fingers crossed).
i went into RE2R blind. no reviews, no screen shots, no videos. i was hella excited and blown away by this game. by far, my favorite in the series aside from the original re2 and the 1st remake. re2 and re1r were my favorite 2 for a long time. i used to get out of school n play Platinum on my PC and just beat that game in a sitting while listening to Godsmack's The Other Side album.
One thing you may have missed: blue herbs are FAR more useful in this version. Not only do they cure poison, but when combined with other herbs, they provide defense as well. A blue+red herb combo, for example, will massively increase your defense to the point that an otherwise near-fatal attack suffered will do next to no damage to your character. Needless to say, blue+red+green is the most useful, providing a full heal PLUS a huge defensive boost (and cures poison as well).
Fantastic new take on a classic game. I didn’t care for the dynamic difficulty or the fact that you couldn’t simply run around the zombies without paying the metal-jacketed prerequisite of a bullet to a zombie knee. There are quite a few high points such as the graphical details, fluid character movements, and the fresh yet nostalgic atmosphere, but for brevity’s sake I won’t go into them. Mr. X did make me chuckle and was quickly relegated to meme status as opposed to his original purpose of increasing player urgency. I still much prefer the difference of taking in a virtual world instead of constantly taking it on. All in all the game is a great example of what modern updates/remakes should be. Nice review, you besottedly clever fiend!
I still think Resident Evil 1 Remake set the bar for remakes, it honestly surpassed the original. Resident Evil 2 Remake more stands alongside the original as an excellent video game. Likely my game of the year for 2019. I had a blast 100% everything in the main game and the dlc. Hoping Capcom remakes Dino Crisis next.
I’m too scared of my childhood trauma to play it but I used to solve the puzzles for my friends (with pen and paper!) and I know this is the perfect remake.
So sad to hear how hyped up you were about RE3 Nemesis. Me too, mate... It's one of the best childhood memories, and I feel personally attacked by the remake.
I feel like this was a risk for Capcom so the budget was not very huge so the later parts and the B scenario felt kind of rushed. Still liked the game. Excited for Nemesis.
7:04 going for the legs is sometimes the safer bet than headshots. It also traps a zombie in whatever room they wander into so if you’re not traversing it often you can keep them there. Additionally dodging an enemy with no legs isn’t much of a problem if you leave them in traversed areas. Of course I still went for headshots often. It does higher damage to the zombie overall and 2-3 shots generally causes them to stumble. Keep shooting at the head while they’re in the ground. Also a benefit to taking out the legs is it’s easier to shoot the head when they’re on the ground. 8:29 - this game does something different with blue herbs when combined with red and green herbs. It gives you a higher defense. It’s stated in one of the files but there’s never really a tutorial about it. If you take a mixed blue herb combo it allows you to take a lot more hits (I feel like at least 3 times as much if not more). That’s why you were struggling at the end combining them all was essential and makes the game much easier lol
Resident Evil 2 for the original PlayStation was my favorite entry into the series and I thought it would never be topped. It represents the perfect sequel and gives the player so much while showing reverence to where it started. Yes, there have been other titles in the RE series that have come close to the zenith that RE2 was but for one reason or another they fell just short of the goal. Resident Evil Code Veronica and Resident Evil 4 were very close. I even prefer the original Resident Evil 2 to the GameCube Remake and that was fantastic. Oh but things have changed in a very big way. The first was seeing Capcom finally go back to their best and remake it from the ground up for the 8th generation. The day it dropped I was never more happy to own an Xbox One X and a high end 4K UHD for the experience of a lifetime (it's amazing on the Series X and PS5 as well). The Resident Evil 2 Remake replaced the original as my defacto favorite of the series and I thought...that was that. Flash forward to last week on a Friday when I picked up two copies of Resident Evil 8: The Village...it is so damn good that it has topped the second game in my all time favorite list. Review it Drinker and I'm quite sure you will love it. Addendum- We (fiancee and I) are both gamers that play side-by-side every night after work. She is playing Resident Evil 8: The Village on the PS5 *physical and I on the Xbox Series X. Jaw dropping, stunning, and drop dead gorgeous are words that do not come close to how incredible RE8 looks in 4K@60fps HDR10 w/Ray Tracing on. Further, it has the gameplay to match and is an amalgamation of every great title in the series thrown into one amazing package.
Agreed massively with one of your critiques specifically - the pointless 'second scenarios'. They should have just left it at 'Leon's playthrough' and 'Clair's playthrough'. I was so disappointed that nothing changed when you reversed the order. Ironically, Zombies are the toughest enemies in the game. I learnt quickly that going for headshots with the pistol was a waste, but I disagree that free aim is pointless. This is where free aim shines. Pistol is for knee capping and dodging, then you get the shotgun to kill all the zombies you need to (ergo why I think Claire is 'hard mode'. No sgotgun, no flamethrower). And the only time i killed lickers was when X was giving it to me and sneaking went out the window. Brilliant game. 0/10 because of Claire's face. If they give Jill the same treatment I'm gonna Self Destruct Capcom hq. Don't mess with perfection lol
I played it on steam so I could mod Claire face back to perfection. And have extra costumes. The machine gun is good for delimbing as well. If you have the time you can shoot one round at a time to dismember a foot, then go in with the knife.
I never played a Resident Evil game until Biohazard, and the second RE game I played was this one. So here are some things I learned that I'll pass on to you: A: The Drinker is a tad wrong on the headshots. While he is correct in saying they don't do more damage, he is incorrect in saying they don't matter. There is a random chance that a headshot will blow the zombie's head off. If it does, it puts them down permanently. Otherwise, they'll just stay down for a while before getting back up. B: As someone who played Leon first, and then Claire, take my advice and pick Claire first. The second playthrough is more difficult than the first, and Kennedy's weapon set is far better than Claire's, making the unavoidable bouts of combat easier as Leon. C: Speaking of weapon sets, they aren't the same. Claire's weapon set is a revolver, a handgun, an Uzi, a "grenade" launcher, and a spark shot. While you may get giddy at the prospect of a grenade launcher, keep in mind that it only has two kinds of ammo, flame and acid. Both of which are area of effect and damage-over-time munitions. Flame weapons are the only thing that can permanently put down the plant zombies, and Claire's flame rounds for the grenade launcher aren't that cost effective. The weapon is meant to be used to hose down a group of zombies with a "ticking poison" that comes in two varieties. Having to blast a single plant zombie two times to put it down with an expensive form of ammunition is no bueno. Her only practical guns are her two handguns and the Uzi. The Uzi is good for boss fights with its automatic fire (thus high DPS), but it helps to use short, controlled bursts to avoid wasting ammunition on missed shots or non-weak points. D: Leon's weapon set kicks ass by comparison. He has a handgun, a shotgun, a Desert Eagle, and a chemical thrower (a flamethrower). His handgun holds a good amount of ammo, allowing you to fire a decent number of shots before having to reload. The desert eagle hits like a truck, but since the ammo for it is sparse and/or expensive to craft, its best to save it for boss fights or for desperate escapes from Mister X. The shotgun kicks ass in ways you wouldn't believe. It can quickly drop lickers and has a tendency to decapitate normal zombies with a close-range headshot. That said, its garbage at long distances. To quote a Call of Duty meme about shotguns, the burst from your shotgun is either near instant death or sparkly confetti. To make the most of it, you usually have to damn near barrel stuff them to ensure maximum impact. It's a high risk option. I also found it helpful in quickly blasting larger weak points on bosses to save Lightning Hawk (his desert eagle) ammo for smaller targets. The chemical thrower is mile ahead of Claire's counterpart weapon (the grenade launcher). The flamethrower follow the rules of napalm to an extent, in that tagging an enemy with a short spray will cause them to burn for a few moments. Its this little tidbit that makes it the perfect weapon for plant zombies. You can just give them love taps until they die, and if they start to get too close, you can hold down the trigger and make them die faster at the cost of more fuel. E: Mister X is the huge lumbering dude in the trench coat and hat, and he is a persistent and unkillable threat throughout the game. He isn't particularly fast, adhering to the slasher villain school of having a brisk walking pace, but makes up for it with persistence. He can hear you running if you are in the same room as him, so walk if he hasn't seen you yet. If he does spot you, run. Weaving in and out of rooms is a good way to lose him I've found, and pay attention to the thumping of his footsteps. You can hear those even when he's not in the same room as you. If he corners you, you'll have to resort to two options: the worse option is letting him punch you once and then flee for your life while he goes through his animations (one is where he'll crack his neck after decking you). The better option is to shoot him into his pain state and then run past him. For this, you use either Leon's Lightning Hawk (which can put him to his knees with a single well placed shot) or Claire's Uzi (which can knock him down via spraying him with bullets). F: All of Berkin's forms follow the old video game trope of having big glowing weak spots. These weak spots are the big yellow eyes. Don't bother shooting anywhere else because it only mildly annoys him and wastes ammo. Some eyes are bigger than others, and it helps to go for the larger targets first. G: Lickers are blind, and as such have no field of view triggers (fancy talk meaning that they have no 'visual cone' which allows them to spot the player and target you). They do however react to sound. Move slowly and do not run. They can't open doors, but they can move in and out of rooms via small slots on either the ceiling or the floor. Sometimes, the errant misstep or failure to walk slowly will trigger a lunge. If this happens, don't panic (unless they hit you) because they still haven't seen you. If a noise (other than running or gunshots) triggers him, he'll barrel toward the source of the noise as opposed to the player. Another more obvious rule is to avoid making contact with them (or letting them make contact with you). You can slow walk right past them and be fine. But if they happen to move as per their patrolling mechanics and bump into you, shit hits the fan fast. H: Always carry a flashbang and a knife. Always. The knife allows you to escape from zombie grapples and thus avoid damage. The flashbang stuns enemies of almost any kind, even Mister X. Don't bother trying to slash enemies with the knife. I know some people advocate its use as a melee weapon, but in my experience its merely an effective way to get in a tit-for-tat fight with a zombie like its Yusuke vs Chu.
This game was a great remake. Its only flaws were not having your first play through affect your second, and how you pretty much play the exact story on play through B, also, Mr X stole the show
Headshots increase crit rate Letting the reticle minimize does as well Aiming is a matter of calm and skill now, and both the accuracy and timing matter massively.
Honestly best remake ever made. 7:00 also this isn't true. Using precision shots gives you an increased critical chance, and you can de-limb zombies by shooting them in their arms/legs. The way to dodge zombies in this game is to shoot them in the leg with your pistol until either the leg literally comes off or they visibly stagger, then run past them. These games have always kind of rewarded multiple playthroughs too though. It's hard to know which zombies you should and shouldn't be dodging on a first playthrough. I don't know if you or anyone else here is interested in like speedruns or no damage runs, but if you are you should check out CarcinogenSDA's no damage runs of this game on his channel so you can see some higher level strats like the above mentioned in action.
I used to watch MikeBettencourt's walkthroughs for Resident Evil back in the day. Since he's moved on to other things, CarcinogenSDA has been my go-to for quality playthroughs.
Great game. Shooting other body parts does help, like shooting off legs with a handgun, or decapitating with a shotgun or magnum. My first playthrough was all about shooting the legs off, before running up for a shotgun decap. Oh, how much I had to learn 😂
The RE1 and RE2 remakes are some of the best remakes ever IMO and for different reasons. The RE1 remake is very faithful in a lot of ways to the original with just enough added to keep it fresh and surprising for veterans of the first game with a lot of quality of life improvements on top of the graphics upgrade (which works very well IMO). The RE2 remake, the remake of my favorite RE game was very different in many ways (mostly game play) but I loved it all.
Takes me back to been 10 years old and my uncle letting me play this on his PlayStation, soon got mine and was nowhere near clever enough to get far, same with number 1. Then going going back to it a few years later and completing it. Damn the memories a game can bring back is weird. Like when I play tomb raider 3 I get a craving for coke a cola, Cadburys carmel bars and quavers.
I'm a huge Resident Evil fan now and I can't wait for their next project, whether it be RE3 remake, RE8 or something else. I played RE4 before this one came out and it was actually really good even though it's so old and goofy. Even RE6 is insanely fun to play with a friend, because it's so bad.
Ah Drinker. Love your videos man. Gotta say though, all your criticisms of this game seem to come from you being too pissed to play it properly. You absolutely can dodge enemies and the game provides everything you need for an easy life. But it also demands that youre smart about your approach. It's a very deep and tactical game that only reveals itself fully after a few playthroughs. A masterpiece in my opinion. And that minigun. What ridiculous, joyous fun!
Resident Evil Code Veronica was also a great game, I found it as enjoyable as RE2. Id be worthy of a remake as well... especially for the people who didnt own a Dreamcast console back in 2000
Capcom knocking it out the park again with the remakes for Resi. Here's hoping Sega takes notes for that rumoured Sonic Adventure remake, where it's take the base game and build upon it, rather than the 1:1 remakes we've been seeing recently with Shadow of the Colossus and the Crash trilogy. But yea more like Resi for Adventure's remake (Sonic being more like Resident Evil, now there's something I bet you didn't expect to hear in the same sentence) I also wouldn't mind to see a Devil May Cry remake after DMC5 reinvigorated the franchise. I'd be happy for them to do it themselves or let Kamiya have another crack at it, as I'm sure I can remember seeing him saying something about having an interest in revisiting it.
I really liked it, the only thing I really miss about the original when I was playing, was that eerie, 90's piano music. Never realized how big a part that was to me until it was gone.
I was 4 years old when the original RE2 came out, so needless to say it totally passed me by, and once I finally got into horror games, Resident Evil 6 was just coming out, sooooo yeah, wasn't exactly the best first impression when I had scary games like Amnesia and Dead Space to play instead. Now that the remake is out and I've earned my Plat, I can happily say it is one of my favorite games of all time. :)
@8:41 If you were low on health, then a blue and red herb would be the next best thing, since it give you the shield to help you survive a hit or two more than you normally would
My biggest disappointment with this was the the second play-through with the other character. As you said, it didn't feel connected like it did in the original.
REmake1 is the best Resident Evil also, to be fair Critical, That while not directly rewarding accuracy DOES reward patience and not panicking as when you focus in your shots(the accuracy increase when standing still) you actually do get a 50% damage bonus. I really wish the game explained focus shots better and made the benefits more clear. You can also completely avoid the west hall/corridor wing once you get the bolt cutters and you unlock the shortcut, I believe you only need to go into the corridor 2 times in the game, and only once on scenario B
Looking forward to when they do Code Veronica. That will be the last one of the main series they haven't updated since RE4 changed their formula for the camera and some of the mechanics. They could do Outbreak too. That game in some ways was frustrating but fun. A bit ahead of its time. I think it could work well now.
Great video drinker. I do have one criticism. The game does actually reward accurate shooting. But you gotta focus on leg shots, and arm shots. Shoot one leg off, then the arm on that side. Zombies can open doors, and have a hard time grabbing you.
Good review, but some of your complaints arent true, theyre just you not understanding the game properly. For example, at 10:25, you complain about the first floor corridor, but you dont need to take that route as you can clearly see on the map you have open. From where you start in the main hall, you can enter the door to the west office and leave via the door opposite the safety deposit room, bypassing the entire corridor. You can also go through the second floor library and get back to the first floor down the stairs beside the darkroom. And thats if you cant be arsed to board up the windows. Secondly, your complaint about health items. The blue herbs arent there to cure poison this game. They give you a shield that makes you take half damage. Youre supposed to use blue herbs before boss fights etc so that you dont need to use as many healing items. By the end of the game I have about 20 full healing items in the chest.
A brilliant remake! The level design is just so well done, the combat and the puzzles are both fun and addictive. Such a shame they fucked up RE3 remake though
I've completed the game over and over, retrieving 20 years old emotions. Note that, in normal difficulty, you end up with more ressources can you could use, provided you've got used to game dynamics and challenges... 🙂

Aw, that's actually really sweet.
A couple free hints for those looking to play the game:
I could go on, because I've played this game almost as much as RE4; it's highly addictive, and unlocking the infinite minigun and infinite rocket launcher feels so good :)
EDIT: TH-cam decided to add extra line breaks.

@@TheCriticalDrinker "in a spot of bother" .. I've never heard that expression before, thank you Sir.

I had no interest in the RE series but this video makes me wanna try it out. Good job.
Once they ditched the frustrating control scheme of the older games it became better, but they also ditched the horror which made it worse. RE 7 and this remake looks like what they should've done when they ditched the controls.

Brie Larson was in Scott Pilgrim. Yes that's the same person.
Gave the fans exactly what they want...that's a beautiful statement right there
The game itself is amazing but it NEEDED more content. The A and B scenarios are way too similar.
They were basically identical sans Sherry and Ada parts which are 5 whole minutes. They dropped the ball.
xJOE BLACKx35 lol I highly agree with you. It is truly a shame that there isn't more content.vit would've been a blast.
Well they did the add the 3 ghost scenario's for free and the 4th sheriff battle. With some neat unlockables... not saying it makes up for it
James M wanting a game to have two scenarios where you only get the full story by completing both isn’t toxic if it’s a remake of a game that had that in the first place.
*_Oh wait, they released the classic soundtrack on release._* Damn, Capcom was on point. ;)
The RE team has been on top of their shit the last couple years.
Pretty damn good remake..I would have liked more story connection to both 1 and 3. Otherwise I agree.
Capcom is truly a powerhouse for their franchise games. The same treatment for RE they give to Monster Hunter and they do a damn good job with that franchise.

Really, RE2 Remake is one of the best things to play that you might've already played, it's totally a monster of its own and the fun is in the experience. The only thing it was missing was the line from that trucker at the start. "That guy's a MANIAC.. WHY'D HE BITE ME?!"
My life is so much better since I discovered this channel.
Great review Drinker! One of my all time favorite games. I remember playing the demo for RE2 on PS1 RE1 special edition. The remake is amazing.
This remake sounds TERRIBLE and especially how it scales up -in difficulty- by (re)spawning which has always been and will always be STUPID.
Boo.
@@nostromov7892 no it doesn't actually respawn enemies thats not true at all and it only has a small amount of adaptive difficulty which is what it's called and if it was to hard or annoying assisted difficulty exists for a reason

My biggest disappointment was the lack of that giant fucking MAC-10 with the huge barrel shroud from the of RE2
RE1's REmake and Metroid Zero Mission already taught us how to do remakes right
And they're actual remakes, unlike this reboot falsely marketed as remake.
@@hikari67 I don't even think it's that good of a reboot because it needlessly cut stuff instead of trying to improve it or retool it in a way to fit the new design.
I won't lie compare to Metroid Zero the Samus returns remake was lacking for me
Super Metroid already showed us how to do a remake the right way (come to think of it, it is essentially a remake of NES Metroid).
Yeah! I noticed that! A bit annoying really!
Yeah claire too different
Her original theme is family and young from the little sis to the protective big sis, goes in unprepared and is intimidated
Slowly growing into a protector and resolved to keep searching for her brother as code veronica continues
But nope all gone here cause strong female trope, it's all so much weaker than old
Maybe in cutscenes. but in game play she was shrieking and screaming all over the place.
When you upgraded the shotgun in the original and it nearly knocks Leon down when he shoots it.....that rocked my balls off
No goddamn joke.
Headshots not being significant is an immersion-breaker.
And then RE3R happened.
I loved the original and I love the remake too but story B is a huge let down compared to the original.
In the original when you played story B you had to deal with different situations for example you took the train in story A so you had to call it back first but that led to some complications.
In the remake you going thru the same things just the items scrambled around. Extremely lazy
Yeah, that was bullshit. The first game was supposed to affect the second
@@TheTillmanSneakerReview people just want to whine. Cause they are insecure Re 2 remake is more famous than Re 2 OG.
I wish they took more time and made 2 completely separate campaigns for leon & claire still an amazing game though
@@hikari67 how can you be so wrong ?
Would it be worth paying twice as much for nearly twice the content or so you want twice is much for the same price? Lol. Most people wouldn’t pay twice as much otherwise capcom would do that I’m sure
Eyyy thanks Drinker! Glad to hear a happy drunk rant again. o7
Loved the original and the remake. Review was spot on!
I loved watching my cousin play thru this game when I was a kid. And my experiences playing the remake is something that will honestly stay with me forever
Shooting the body part does give advantage, especially for speedrunner, 1-2 bullet at the knee, you can outrun any typical zombie.
For leon:
Shotgun can generally pop out head with 1 bullet and 1 shot dog, don't save much on the ammo of shotgun, just use it.
Magnum can be situational, usually more recommended in 2nd run.
Flamethrower is the most effective to defeat the 3rd stage of birkin.
Grenade and flashbang should be mostly save for last battle of mr x.
For claire
The basic handgun should be use with speedloader, but if got dlc gun, much better until get to parking lot to get claire hp3.
It's like, the biggest subversion of the whole genre, isn't it? For best results.... aim at the knee!
These kind of videos are my jam. Thank you!
6:51 Shooting them in the head rarely works. The best thing is aiming for their knees. It will either drop them on the floor, forcing them to crawl the rest of the time, or at the very least stun them long enough for you to move forward. That's clever design - as everyone who has played RE4 would aim for the head.
Loved your GoT reviews and I’ve been looking for more people to talk about the masterpiece that is RE2!! This game is my GOTY
Great review mate, this brought back a lot of happy memories!
Keep the game videos comming, realy enjoying your stuff. In addition, I think the blue herbs give you a resistance buff for a short time if consumed mixed with a green herb. Therfore the surplus of them.
If you combine it with a red herb you get a temporary buff, but it doesn't last long.
I’m excited for the resident evil 4 remake review 😈
The free aiming helps in shooting limbs, really helps in slowing down zombies and sometimes stun them momentarily!
I really hope we get a 4 Remake review from you here in the upcoming months !
Blue herbs will also provide a temporary increase in defense as well.
i went into RE2R blind. no reviews, no screen shots, no videos. i was hella excited and blown away by this game. by far, my favorite in the series aside from the original re2 and the 1st remake. re2 and re1r were my favorite 2 for a long time. i used to get out of school n play Platinum on my PC and just beat that game in a sitting while listening to Godsmack's The Other Side album.
@JCG, Yes, it would for me too.
It is time for Dino Crisis to return.
I’m too scared of my childhood trauma to play it but I used to solve the puzzles for my friends (with pen and paper!) and I know this is the perfect remake.
BTW I love your public voice! We need talented people like you bringing us back to reality.
Wasn't really into the RE games. But I had to stop the vid at 2:29 because I'm gonna go buy it now and I don't want spoilers. Good job.
I like how you mention Terry Funk aka Chainsaw Charlie, since in later RE games you fight chainsaw-wielding antagonists!
So sad to hear how hyped up you were about RE3 Nemesis. Me too, mate... It's one of the best childhood memories, and I feel personally attacked by the remake.
I wish I had your accent so it wasn't so easy to tell how drunk I am at work.
Lmao
What better way to celebrate Remake 3 than watching a video of the Drinker himself!
Mod, on Steam... By some kind of payments? Then it would -all- make sense, meh.
@@nostromov7892 I'm not sure what you're talking about, but the mods I use are free.
I never played a Resident Evil game until Biohazard, and the second RE game I played was this one. So here are some things I learned that I'll pass on to you:
A: The Drinker is a tad wrong on the headshots.
The critical drinker the growth of your channel in the past few months is crazy.. 👍🏼
This game was a great remake. Its only flaws were not having your first play through affect your second, and how you pretty much play the exact story on play through B, also, Mr X stole the show
This is my favorite RE of all time now. Spectacular game
Headshots increase crit rate
Letting the reticle minimize does as well
Aiming is a matter of calm and skill now, and both the accuracy and timing matter massively.
you had me when you said, brie Larson loves herself! I'm listening, cool stuff, but to bad I'm a drunk white heterosexual male.
RE1 and RE2 Remakes are simply amazing.
I watched CarcinogenSDA's RE3 playthrough just for the old time's sake. He good.
I used to watch MikeBettencourt's walkthroughs for Resident Evil back in the day. Since he's moved on to other things, CarcinogenSDA has been my go-to for quality playthroughs.
RE2 Remake is RE2 presented as how you remember the feeling of playing RE2 back in the 90s and early 2000s
in the lab mess hall message made me chuckle quite a bit
''our meal are made to be the most nutritious offer'' as their zombies eating in the room XD
Great game.
Shooting other body parts does help, like shooting off legs with a handgun, or decapitating with a shotgun or magnum.
My first playthrough was all about shooting the legs off, before running up for a shotgun decap. Oh, how much I had to learn 😂
You're very good at game reviews. I'd love to see more over time.
Id be worthy of a remake as well... especially for the people who didnt own a Dreamcast console back in 2000
The chaos of that map nearly killed me.
Ah yes Claire Redfield she starred in so many of my wanks. I cant wait to crack one out to the new version.
@@valinperal If you have it on Steam you can mod her face.
Mods will save the wank
Hey! I was basically raised in the cave in Siberia. And I still played original RE2 back in the days 😉
But yea more like Resi for Adventure's remake (Sonic being more like Resident Evil, now there's something I bet you didn't expect to hear in the same sentence)
I also wouldn't mind to see a Devil May Cry remake after DMC5 reinvigorated the franchise.
You are hilarious. Love it. Subbed!
One of the best games I’ve ever played
Thanks for the echo
REmake1 is the best Resident Evil also, to be fair Critical, That while not directly rewarding accuracy DOES reward patience and not panicking as when you focus in your shots(the accuracy increase when standing still) you actually do get a 50% damage bonus. I really wish the game explained focus shots better and made the benefits more clear. You can also completely avoid the west hall/corridor wing once you get the bolt cutters and you unlock the shortcut, I believe you only need to go into the corridor 2 times in the game, and only once on scenario B
I was so glad they didn't race-swap any character...
This is Japan we are talking about. They don't give two shits about stuff like that.
Script Kiddy Agreed. They don’t subscribe to the Baizuo bullshit thank goodness
Can't say the same about the new re movie unfortunately..😒
Tá m'árthach foluaineach lán d'eascanna thank you
A brilliant remake! The level design is just so well done, the combat and the puzzles are both fun and addictive. Such a shame they fucked up RE3 remake though
To get a review like this on the original game we had to buy a gaming magazine back then
I missed claire's red hair
soul privilege out of 10
Same man capcom had one job
Capcom gave all of Claire's ginger power to Regina.
You can install a myriad of mods, including a red hair mod.
I've completed the game over and over, retrieving 20 years old emotions. Note that, in normal difficulty, you end up with more ressources can you could use, provided you've got used to game dynamics and challenges... 🙂
