Will usually feels like the guy that has no idea what he's doing and somehow gets by. But you can see a lot of his knowledge come out in this video. Welding, laser cutting, engineering
and none of it necessary at all because these containers are literally built to be picked up from those points, even when loaded. He could have just hooked a chain onto the holes on the corner and called it a day.
@@va3dxv Not moved one my self but been around some moving - Seen it via fork lift which raises its prongs above the container, and they attach to the top prong holes. - also the fork lifts were bigger than normal, they could lift the entire crate up if it could get in right. Don't think Will had the setup for that so this worked hah

Every old lathe will have some degree of backlash in the lead screws. Some allow for adjustment of the split nut as it wears but it will be much tighter on less worn sections of the screw. start your tool off your part and feed into your work to take up the back lash and you will be fine. old lathes are great.

You are a moderately sized channel that has managed to organize a huge number of youtubers i do not think that has ever been done like this before great job! They make wheel kits for those that lock into the corners, which makes moving them with a tractor much easier. If you get a couple trailer hubs and wheels, you can probably use what you've already made to attach them too.

I recently put up a 70 yard zip line for my son out of steel cable. The whole horizontal/vertical load rope conundrum is real. I could not believe the amount of reinforcement needed to hold my 20kg son without sagging. After doing the math for the angle of the cable and all that, apparently, according to the support poles, my son weighs 400kg.
I've got a very similar cold saw in the metal shop I work at - they're great and work through literally anything. one thing to be aware of is that they cut really bad against a flat face. cutting bars is always best with them vertically, which makes angle iron a pain sometimes. Also, it can probably tow the shipping container, the torque is more than enough to ignore your arm
You could get some forks for your tractor bucket lift it up and slide a part of a telephone pole under each end and then roll it on the logs. Thats how I have done it before. Takes a bit of time but it works.

I just rebuilt the gearbox and cooling system of one of those cold saws. They're pretty cool. Amazing how quickly they can cut metal with how low the RPM's are.
yeah i thought this immediately.. and/or a napkin beneath the lid. i think two lids _might_ still leak through, given enough time and sauce. but maybe you have actual experience with this, i'm just speculating

Hey William, you might need to bring your focal point down on your laser to get a better cut, for 8mm mild steel, your focal point should be about 3mm. Increasing the air pressure and piercing time might help it cut better also through.
I made the mistake of failing to account for the horizontal forces created by short diagonal chains when I attempted to lift a 6000 pound lathe using a chain strung between the arms of my automotive 2 post lift. The lift was rated for 9000 pounds. The problem is that that's only a vertical load. The horizontal load created by the chain angles was too much and the concrete floor couldn't hold the lift columns. The concrete broke. Nobody was hurt, but that was an expensive lesson.

Bar in the middle that you use to make force upward is useless, because if you lift from the middle of the chain right corner will pull to the left and left corner will pull to the right and equailize each other and you will left with only upward force. If the problem is lifting chain from the right point a pulley should work.
