    Thank You so much for this video, I have been racking my brain to justify 5 wedges but after hearing about the Grand Father I feel better. I have the Callaway Rogue x irons, 6,7,8,9. PW 41, AW 46, GW 50. Because the PW plays like a 9 iron I have added wedges. I am a high handicap older player with lower swing speed, this is my set up, Mavrick Driver 12 degree set to +1 D, Mav 5 wood 18 & 7 wood 21 ,Rogue 5 hybrid 25, irons 6-GW ( your chart) and added Callaway Mack Daddy SW 54 and Lob 58. Putter Rossie Stroke Lab mid mallet. Course Rating 71.3/127 elevated greens. I find myself playing my wedges a lot, the 58 over (many) bunkers and short pins. I do not play a 3 wood , the fairways are tight my 5 wood is a great fit for me. I believe the rule is for every 4 degrees in wedges it equals 10-15 yards. I think this setup will work for me. Again Thank You

    My clubs have been Titleist AP3. My PW is lofted at 43 degrees. So I carry a 48, 52, 56. I have parked my 60’s.
    Seems my 48 could be my approach, and my 52 my gap. My 56 is my sand and lob. It has 11 degrees of bounce. It is good in the tall grass.
    My clubs are 48 /9, 52 /8, 56 /11, 60 /7, 60 /10, and I do have a 54 /12.
    If I swap out my current set up and switch to 48, 54, 60, then I have 6 gap between my 48 and 54, and 54 to 60. And then I have to mess with my 60. I not all that confident with them.
    I carry 13 clubs. Maybe I should add one on the top end to try and get closer? Or add the 60 to my current setup and run with 5 wedges? What do you think? That pesky PW is messing up my gapping. Maybe I just need to continue to work out my club distance numbers, and get better with my wedges. 🤔

      Awesome, thanks for sharing!
      And when it comes to adding an extra club, that is a hard decision. Whether it’s at the top or bottom of the bag, we would recommend picking whatever plugs your gaps up best.
      If the gaps seem good as is, then might be good to have a “tool” for specific shots (which often times is a 60 degree, chipper, or driving iron to give options off the tee).

    I’ve used a LW to tee off and hit the green from 120 and can consistently hit my LW between 110-120 with a full swing, am I just hitting it too hard? Because I can use it to chip as well

    • @GolfAscending
      @GolfAscending  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Those numbers are pretty similar to pros with a lob wedge. As long as you’re getting the right trajectory and spin out of it, that’s a pretty good distance. For shorter shots, just gotta take a shorter backswing.

    I like my sandwedge with mustard.... just sayin
    My Callaway set the 10 iron functions as a pitching wedge and the wedge is the 50° gap wedge.

    I have a 58 what else would you recommend getting to complete a wedge set.?

    • @GolfAscending
      @GolfAscending  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      58 is a Lob wedge, a 50 (gap), and 54 (sand) would be our recommendation.

    Really enjoyed your video. Just out of interest are specialist AW (50 in particular) normally any better than a AW you can buy in your iron set? I’m Getting the P790’s irons and wasn’t sure if it might be easier to play with this AW club, in the same set, or instead look at separate wedge like vokey etc? (as both prices are very similar 🤷‍♂️) Any guidance and thoughts on this would be appreciated, if normally any difference, as for this club it would be a full swing. Thanks

      Jonathan, you came to the right channel! Brady speaking here, I actually owned the P790s (great clubs!) and we have a review video about them going out tomorrow!
      I had the set down to pitching wedge, and then used Vokeys for my wedges. I had the 50, 54, 58 set up, and it worked out really well for gapping out my distances with the P790s.

    Hey guys, looking into getting a 52 or 54 wedge. As just got new Wilson D7 irons fit to -1 but I have a 56 and 60 in the bag. Not using the 60 as can get the same shot with an open face 56. Would you recommend a 52/54? (I also got the Gap wedge in the set.

    • @GolfAscending
      @GolfAscending  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would start by looking at the specs for your Wilson D7 Irons. It looks like the D7 GW is 48*, so the club that would fit best between that and your 56* would be a 52*. Hope that helps!

    My Pitching Wedge is 45 degrees and my sand wedge is 55 degrees. I have only one spot remaining in my bag. Should I go for a 50 degree or a 60 degree wedge?

    • @GolfAscending

      I would put a 50* in there, you will get much more usage out of it than a 60*

    Would you bend a 52 to 51 or be happy with the 50 degree. That would give me 5 deg b/t PW and GW and 6 deg b/t GW and SW. By the way, no lob wedge in my future. Dedicated to getter to finally getting short game in shape. You guys are building a great Podcast.

    • @GolfAscending
      @GolfAscending  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joe Whitt thanks Joe! We would suggest keeping about 4-5 degree of loft between the wedges. 6 degrees might be a little much of a gap in distance.

    • @joewhitt2073
      @joewhitt2073 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well I have 11 degrees to cover so I will try and get my gap bent to 51 deg. Is it better to get a club bent up or bent down a degree?

    • @GolfAscending
      @GolfAscending  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Joe Whitt, keep in mind strengthening and weakening your loft will change the bounce. So if you bend a 52* strong to 51*, you will lose 1* of bounce meaning the leading edge is more likely to dig. It works opposite if you bend a 50* weak to a 51* you will get more bounce. To help you gap your wedges tell us what brand your pitching wedge is and which wedges you currently carry.

      Thank you for the help. I have a set of Callaway X22. They are in great shape 3-PW Graphite. I have a Smart Sole Wedge. That I really like. Now I did Not know the smart sole came in a set. Chipper, Gap, and SAND.. I have the sand, and had planned on getting the gap. Would getting the chipper help enough to make it worth it.? I have had to retire due to my eyesight and I will not be the last place in the next club championship club

    • @GolfAscending
      @GolfAscending  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Joe Whitt, it looks like the specs for the Callaway X22 irons have PW at 45*. An optimal setup would be to have a gap wedge at 50*, sand wedge at 54*, and lob wedge at 58*. If you decide to not play with a lob wedge playing a 50*, 55*, and a utility type club like a chipper would also work.
