Should you by Nio stock or should you buy Tesla Stock? These are my thoughts on the differences between Tesla Stock and Nio stock, which one is a better stock to buy, which one we should sell or hold, and whether or not Nio is competitive against Tesla. This is my first video breaking down Nio vs Tesla stock. Morgan Stanley is bullish on Nio stock. JP Morgan is bullish on Nio stock. Bank of America is bullish on Nio stock. Jim Cramer on CNBC’s talks about Nio, though prefers Tesla. Nio just launched a new larger 100 kWh battery pack, which is 25 kWh larger than their standard 75 kWh pack, and Nio offers subscription services to allow people to pay for a larger battery when they want it. Nio says as many as 35% of their existing 75 kWh battery customers may end up buying Nio’s new 100 kWh pack. Nio says that their main goal to converting people from Gas cars to electric. In fact, in their last earnings call they were asked: Aren’t you worried about Tesla introducing the model Y in china? And Nio said no. They welcome Tesla’s expansion because They see anything that Tesla does as an opportunity to as they say quote “grow the pie” - aka - to get more people into electric vehicles. Nio slams Tesla for their price cuts and insists that Nio’s goals are selling higher priced vehicles, not lower-cost vehicles. They implied that Elon Musk seems to be a mission to lower prices where Nio wants to maintain higher selling prices. Tesla only has about 10% of the the Chinese Battery electric vehicle market in china with even Xpeng producing 25% of the cars that Tesla did. Tesla argues don’t worry: we’re getting to a scale where we can produce over 80,000 cars per month in China. And there’s no doubt that Tesla will ramp up their production faster than everyone else, but will it be a winner-take all situation?
Nio investors think not. Nio investors say Nio’s battery as a service business is innovative. Nio Day comes up on January 9th, 2021 and promises to unveil new self-driving technology they call Nio Pilot 2.0 or NP 2.0. Nio also loves the subscription model: something they believe will make it seem like a lot of their revenues are lower earlier in the process, but they’re revenues will explode in the future by selling customers service contracts for batteries or even servicings. Nio for example has a mobile charging vehicle that can come to your nio car, give you some juice, and then drive off. This helps eliminate that dreaded range anxiety. Nio’s auto pilot hardware currently consists of MobileEye chips which are owned by Intel
Nio has a 5 year contract ending in 2023 with JAC, a Chinese state owned manufacturing company. With Tesla, you get that vertical integration that nio does rely on JAC for. However, nio says not to worry. Their margin will be improving substantially moving forward especially when you consider their Battery as a Service feature, something Tesla killed.
Where do they stand financially though and what's my recommendation? Let's talk about whether you should Buy Tesla Stock or Buy Nio Stock. Or, is this an EV bubble and should you sell Tesla stock and sell Nio stock?

I think you've forgot to mention the fact that Nio is trying to expand into Europe at the same time as well!
60% of EV market is in China. What is the need to expand in Europe? it's more of publicity to portray Nio as global EV player. Pure psychological play. Strange to see no one talks about BYD.

EV market reminds me of when pot stocks were running like crazy a few years ago. Same things gonna happen here. Not saying that there's value the long term. But these will correct massively at some point. The x factor is stimulus though.
Nope, cannabis stocks were never revolutionary, had no moat, and had a giant black market. Nothing backed those stocks except hype and some legalizations. Some of these EV stocks have sales and real tech behind them. Others are insanely overvalued but nothing like cannabis

Hey Kevin, as always I appreciate your detailed insight - great video!, I really liked the objective P/E comparison.
The only questionning I would raise is regarding the volume increase costs for NIO. Maybe I'm missing something that is already accounted for in the per-vehicle margins analysis or so; but if NIO does in fact increase their production volumes to those levels (also considering new models) they would more than likely need to continue reinvesting their revenues and increase debt - e.g. infrastructure/production lines in JAC's facility or perhaps even building a new assembly plant - so I'm not sure about that "Net Profit" yet. Hopefully you could share your thoughts about this or clarify if this is already accounted for.
Note: I'm bullish on both NIO & TSLA. Just not 100% sure if NIO would get to that point this soon, I'd give it an additional year or two.

What do you guys think of Arrival (CIIC) and Canoo (HCAC)? Arrival has a contract of 10 000 vans for UPS and both companies have received investment funds from Hyuandai, Kia and Blackrock!
I go back and forth on moo and tesla. Using profit from one to buy the dip on the other. So I try to take advantage of both. Always keeping at least 50 % of each just in case of huge spike up.

Hey Kevin. Loved your comparative analysis between TSLA vs NIO. 👍and subscribed.
My thoughts though, I think both their approach will complement the EV industry. For densely populated, high-rise areas such as Shanghai, HK and Singapore where land space are limited and charging infrastructure are a constraint, NIO's battery swap strategy seems a more cost effective and ideal approach. But no doubt both companies will go sky high in the next few years esp TSLA.
Considering you're heavy on tesla, this video on NIO was unbiased. Great content. (I love and am super heavy in NIO for now)

Tesla had Battery as a Service 8 years ago but no one used it, BaaS makes more sense in China since more people live in high rises and there’s not much space for home charging.
And Better Place (Israell) had Battery as a Service even before that, even prompting battery lease constructions with Renault. But that also failed. It's interesting to see that it does actually work well in China now.

Kevin -- Love your work. NiO has stated that Annual Production can rise to 300,000 EVs annually at JAC with little investment. You do that with a Double Shift plus some upgradation. So for NIO it is a Marketing Issue not a Production issue. They will only ramp up production when they have the Orders. So do not be surprised if they produce between 200,000 to 300,000 in 2021. They have a) BaaS Advantage b) RMB Subsidy Advantage c) Battery Swapping Advantage so Orders can ramp up from historically highest October Numbers

NIO and TESlA are not comperable. Completely different bussniss models. FYI NIO make thaire own drive train and battery packs (they use cell to pack). Also they controll the supply chain. The third party factory only builds the car. Nia owns all of the technology and makes the electronics the software the drivetrain and the battery pack which are the most important components. A correct statement would be that they don't build their own cars but they do manufacture most of the components.
Traditional automakers like Ford and GM put the cars together using third-party components. Nio designs and makes the most critical components and utilizes third-party to put them together.

Don't get me wrong. I held 429 shares of tsla for awhile now. Love it. But NIO knows what they are doing. Support from Tencent and Government, whom owns shares in the company. Also national pride will propel NIO to $300 within 2 years. Been holding NIO since $7. I'm amazed at what they've done.
