.............I FINALLY REALIZED WHAT TWINK REMINDS ME OF! That episode of Dexter's Laboratory where Dexter had a pet termite that ate metal! Twink both looks and sounds like Timmy the Termite!

I was glad I could help. I'll be honest; the first few seconds I saw you sitting in front of your computer, I thought you were going to say something like, "Finally, Marshmallow is well again! I can get back to reviews!" But I did like this twist of Twink roaring so loud that it shook the Rift! And was that Thespio's very special somepony in there, too?! Overall, a good review. Now sure what to make of the new format yet, but it'll probably grow on me after a few more reviews.
My dear Celestia, Twink was on fire today, first the Godzilla roar, then the violin, I was cracking up throughout half of this, and Dr Wolf just being so nonchalant about the roar was the icing on the cake, everyone else was running around terrified... but the Doc just sits there reading his book and drinking his tea, true Zen. As for the review itself, I agree with pretty much everything you said... hell, all of it actually, I REALLY liked this episode and LOVED that it brought Trixie back as I watched this episode right after finishing episode 9 (which was the current end point at the time) of "Princess Trixie Sparkle" a fan made audio-drama with some FANTASTIC voice acting and fan art to tell the story which had Trixie star as one of the main cast. If you haven't watched "PTS" yet, I highly recommend you go do so RIGHT NOW! The first couple of episode may drag for most people but trust me, by the time you get a few episodes in it is all WORTH it, and the latest episodes have been absolute MASTERPIECES!!!!!!!!!!
Although I'm not a HUGE fan of Trixie (I kinda think she can be super annoying at times), I do enjoy the times when she's being an actual friend to Starlight... without her rubbing it in Twilight's face. One of my favorite things about this episode is that none of the three main ponies were completely in the wrong or completely in the right. Starlight may have foolishly skilled out on an important dinner but she also stuck to her guns when Twilight tried to dissuade her from having Trixie as a friend. Trixie may have said those hurtful things in 'the heat of the moment' but she apologized and genuinely wanted to be friends. And finally, Twilight was being a bit pushy in trying to find another friend for Starlight, but in the end, she saw the error of her ways. Also, I didn't know Twink was part Kaiju! XD
It's good to create a relatable and interesting story and even if sometimes certain characters act out of character. It just proves that we can't all be perfect, and that's good😄

I’m not mad because she’s “a princess of friendship” thing. I’m mad because she kept saying she trusted startlight while trying to pick an choose for starlight. This struck me as her trying to maintain an image and not trusting someone she cared about. Like seriously twi, you trust her enough to leave her alone in your castle full of spellbooks knowing the raw skill she has, but you don’t trust her enough to make her own friends? Plus I seriously doubt Trixie was using starlight.
D'awww! Twink has become a Mary Sue level partner in your reviews! And I don't mean the bad kind of Mary Sue, I mean the Mad Munchkin version of Mary Sue. Cheeky, humorous, and a good foil from time to time. ;D The roaring and the violin moments were both hilarious, the new "Squeak smile" is hilariously charming, and he's such a good friend too. :) Trixie is annoying, but also entertaining. Once she starts learning to curb her ego and becomes a more rounded person, I'll like her more, though some of her moments are still "ugh", given her refusal to learn, at times. So... for that manticore potential suicide scene... there's a theory that the Manticore is actually trained as a part of the act, and that the manticore would probably have spit Trixie up after a minute or two. I think that makes more sense than her being suicidal, though it doesn't diminish the impression that Trixie really just didn't care what happened unless Starlight forgave her. It's a dark scene, and I hope the MLP writers are a little more circumspect about stuff like that in the future. :/
I just recently found out that Trixie was the result of a one night stand and her father doesn't even know she exists, so yeah I have more sympathy for Trixie even though she's not my favorite pony
My main issue with this episode was the elephant in the room, that Trixie WAS GOING TO KILL HERSELF. And nopony was rushing to stop her or talk her out of it! The ponies in the audience get a pass cause they probably all thought it was part of the show. But Twilight and Starlight KNEW the danger was real! That Trixie was ready to end her life over losing her one and only friend. Yes in the end Starlight does do the right thing but it still left a bad taste in my mouth. I mean Twilight was talking to Starlight like nothing serious was happening. Not only that but it was Twilight's reaction to Trixie. Didn't they previously part on good terms? With Trixie even thanking Twilight for helping her get rid of the Alicorn amulet while adding some fireworks to a show she was putting on? But those are just my thoughts. Either way great review Lightning Bliss.

I was kinda on the fence over Twilight's reaction. On the one hoof I felt like it was justified. On the other, it got old really fast. It also felt like Twi was lying about really forgiving Trixie and her intentions. Like Starlight can only make friends on Twi's approval.
I can relate to starlight in some ways. I've had my HUGE fair share of bullies and even thought I made a friend with one until I found out he was just using me over the summer to end his boredom until school started again. since I was suddenly betrayed and back to being alone I was terrified of making another friend in fear that they would do the same. nowdays I'm still really nervous about meeting new people because I'm afraid of how they will view me. but seeing starlight go back and be accepted reminded me of another bully that became my friend. we still sometimes talk but she never again picked on me. great job on the video bliss and I can't wait to see more!

i loved this episode, i always thought that Starlight would relate easily to other reformed characters and Trixie was perfect. sometimes you just need talk to someone/pony who can understand what you been through, also it was fun to see Trixie again. this was a great review Bliss
In all honesty, I'm more or less conflicted about this episode. While the idea of Starlight and Trixie becoming friends was pretty good, I felt a bit put off by Twilight's behavior in the episode and the plot twist nearly ruined Trixie for me. Later on, I started to feel annoyed over Twilight and Trixie's rivalry, which given how they acted towards each other in "To Where and Back Again" seems to be being played for comedy (which I'm really not all that much of a fan of). Whether Trixie's "redemption" was rushed or not, it felt out of place to just back track three seasons later and have the two at each other's throats. Granted, the ending to "Magic Duel" didn't really change Trixie in the slightest, but still. Here's another thing: who is the episode supposed to focus on? I remember that VoiceOfReason gave the episode flack for supposedly "making Starlight a supporting character in her own story." But was that really the case? While Starlight does get a good chunk of spotlight in the episode, Twilight also gets focus as she tries to cope with Starlight and Trixie's friendship and learning to accept it. Overall, I really couldn't tell who the episode was specifically trying to focus on. Basically, this wasn't one of my favorite episodes from season 6. It's far from the worst ("The Cart Before the Ponies" holds that title for me), but I won't be singing is praises from the rooftops anytime soon. Besides, there a hole in that roof! P.S., I'm not a member of the Rift Cafe and I still heard that roar. I thought I was being attacked by dragons for a second! XD
Can we all take a moment to appreciate that Twink is properly trained in how to play a violin? I really want to see what other instruments he can play...along with who taught him.
When I saw the episode "No Second Prances", I couldn't believe that Mrs. Cake would blow up like that at Starlight just for making a custom-made cake with magic. I mean it's not like she sold the cake to anypony. Now when Rainbow Dash overreacted (just like Rarity if somepony ruined all of her dresses) when Starlight asked a simple question on who the Wonderbolts were, to be honest, I wasn't really surprised.
In all honesty, Trixie's great and powerful return was a treat and I loved the chemistry she has with Starlight. Really wished the writer's didn't have to tarnish Twilight's character to do it....
Just to ask, did you feel that Celestia's character was a little off in this episode? I mean, to me, she seems to be carefree, motherly, and a bit of a joker, and always seemed to love getting together with Twilight. But in this episode, she seemed to have the attitude that said "I wish I was anywhere else but with Twilight".
While Twilight said she had forgiven it does nit mean she forgot or that she likes Trixie's personality. And she takes her princess responsibilities seriously and mentoring Starlight is one and she wants her new friend to be more positive influence since Twilight is kind of a perfectionist anyway.
okay, how many of you guys wanna bet that starlight and trixie eventually run into sunset and they have a friendship that's centered around bugging and annoying twilight to no end?
I enjoyed this episode, but there was one part of it that keeps bugging me every time I watch it, and it has nothing to do with the main plot. It was when Mrs. Cake got mad at Starlight over the cake she made, clamming that it would ruin her business. Doesn't she make cakes for a living? Also, I think a cake like that would strum up more business, not ruin it. Why did she act like that? Was she in a bad mood? Was she jealous of the cake? They never really explained. It just really bugs me. What do you think, Bliss?
You know what they say, trust is earned not given. Twilight forgiving Trixie is noble and Princess like, Twilight trusting Trixie without a reason to feel it is safe to do so is foolishness, at best. Twilight is naive at times, but she's no fool.
even I can remember my past though it wasn't at all like you had Blissy, my past was well being a victim of bulling. But I had my parents at my side. But just I think a few weeks ago I finally realized what the bulling had on my life, it what caused me to turn to the MLP fandom in my darkest of days though I would only listen to the MLP Pinkie Pie smile song back then but still it was another step closer for me becoming the pegasister that I am to this ever day. Then came my love for writing, that happened when I was in the sixth grade. If I had never been bullied I would have never be the pegasister that I am. Though I did get an evil and good side to me, bring in DarkHeart ( the side of me that wanted to let my rage and anger out ) and AngelHeart ( the side of me that tried to keep to anger and rage under control ) but now just a few weeks when all of that stuffed that I just mentioned in the beginning of this DarkHeart is now reformed in a pony who I lie to now called Mended Past though I may change her name later on down the road. But heck I'm just happy that I can no longer hear her in my head telling me how much people hate me, don't like me, and never want me around because I can't control the volume in my freaking voice.
It's kind of interesting to me how a lot of folks were upset by Trixie's "suicide attempt" near the end. TBH it never crossed my mind as being that (even tho she said something earlier in the episode along the lines of it would be the end of her if she tried it). Probably because I'm a older Brony (a little older than DustyKatt I think) and grew up on the likes of old-school Looney Tunes. One in particular had Daffy vs. Bugs with competing vaudeville acts - kind of like "Boast Busters" in a way now that I think about it. The audience kept ignoring Daffy but raving for Bugs until finally Daffy came up with an act that involved him swallowing a bunch of explosives (gasoline, nitro glycerin, etc.) and finally a match and blowing himself up. The crowd goes wild and Bugs admits it's an unbeatable act, and Daffy's angel floats away saying "Yeah, but you can only do it once!" Yep, Saturday morning fare in the 1970s! Why is it that Twilight can forgive Starlight for dooming several realities and creating her own cult, but she still gives Trixie a hard time for lesser infractions? How does that add up?
I personally don't care for Trixie and this was just okay for me. May I ask a question thou. Even thou I get your point that Twilight ain't perfect, there is something of a repeating problem with her, she says she forgives a character but then in a later episode she meets the character with hostility and the character in question then proves he is slightly trustworthy. Pardon my rudeness but Trixie hasn't done anything as severe as this other character, the other character of course is Discord and he deserves mistrust. Surely all the times she has misjudged Discord(Misjudged was the best word I could think of), would mean she'd be able to give a character who hasn't betrayed her trust the benefit of the doubt because Trixie hasn't betrayed Twilight, she wasn't reformed in Boost busters thus her second appearance in Magic Duel would have been her reformed. Twilight seems to doing a bit of double standards because with some reformed characters she's understanding but with Trixie and Discord....totally mistrust. Sorry if I worded my question poorly but I hope it's okay. Anyway as normal Bliss great video.
So there's one thing I'm struggling to understand, and I guess it's not about the episode or your thought on it, but story elements,(It's a little off-topic and you don't have to answer) My question is, what is bad about having a character be a plot device? Of course, contrived and arbitrary plot devices are bad, but I don't see how or why a character being a plot device is bad. Something has to not only move the plot forward, but instigate it too. In a slice of life story-by story series like mlp, it only seems best for characters and character conflict to be plot devices. So then how is it a bad thing? I know you don't really personally have a problem with this, but it sounds like you understand people who do; so if you or anyone else could tel me I'd be much obliged.

Dylan Hooper Anguirus is a giant Ankylosaurus Kaiju that happens to be friends with Rodan, Mothra, and Godzilla.
What I didn't like about the episode, besides Twilight having trust issues, is the fact that she forced "better friends" upon Starlight.

When I saw the episode "No Second Prances", I couldn't believe that Mrs. Cake would blow up like that at Starlight just for making a custom-made cake with magic. I mean it's not like she sold the cake to anypony. Now when Rainbow Dash overreacted (just like Rarity if somepony ruined all of her dresses) when Starlight asked a simple question on who the Wonderbolts were, to be honest, I wasn't really surprised.

In all honesty, Trixie's great and powerful return was a treat and I loved the chemistry she has with Starlight. Really wished the writer's didn't have to tarnish Twilight's character to do it....

Just to ask, did you feel that Celestia's character was a little off in this episode? I mean, to me, she seems to be carefree, motherly, and a bit of a joker, and always seemed to love getting together with Twilight. But in this episode, she seemed to have the attitude that said "I wish I was anywhere else but with Twilight".

While Twilight said she had forgiven it does nit mean she forgot or that she likes Trixie's personality. And she takes her princess responsibilities seriously and mentoring Starlight is one and she wants her new friend to be more positive influence since Twilight is kind of a perfectionist anyway.

I enjoyed this episode, but there was one part of it that keeps bugging me every time I watch it, and it has nothing to do with the main plot. It was when Mrs. Cake got mad at Starlight over the cake she made, clamming that it would ruin her business. Doesn't she make cakes for a living? Also, I think a cake like that would strum up more business, not ruin it. Why did she act like that? Was she in a bad mood? Was she jealous of the cake? They never really explained. It just really bugs me. What do you think, Bliss?

You know what they say, trust is earned not given. Twilight forgiving Trixie is noble and Princess like, Twilight trusting Trixie without a reason to feel it is safe to do so is foolishness, at best. Twilight is naive at times, but she's no fool.

even I can remember my past though it wasn't at all like you had Blissy, my past was well being a victim of bulling. But I had my parents at my side. But just I think a few weeks ago I finally realized what the bulling had on my life, it what caused me to turn to the MLP fandom in my darkest of days though I would only listen to the MLP Pinkie Pie smile song back then but still it was another step closer for me becoming the pegasister that I am to this ever day. Then came my love for writing, that happened when I was in the sixth grade. If I had never been bullied I would have never be the pegasister that I am. Though I did get an evil and good side to me, bring in DarkHeart ( the side of me that wanted to let my rage and anger out ) and AngelHeart ( the side of me that tried to keep to anger and rage under control ) but now just a few weeks when all of that stuffed that I just mentioned in the beginning of this DarkHeart is now reformed in a pony who I lie to now called Mended Past though I may change her name later on down the road. But heck I'm just happy that I can no longer hear her in my head telling me how much people hate me, don't like me, and never want me around because I can't control the volume in my freaking voice.
It's kind of interesting to me how a lot of folks were upset by Trixie's "suicide attempt" near the end. TBH it never crossed my mind as being that (even tho she said something earlier in the episode along the lines of it would be the end of her if she tried it). Probably because I'm a older Brony (a little older than DustyKatt I think) and grew up on the likes of old-school Looney Tunes. One in particular had Daffy vs. Bugs with competing vaudeville acts - kind of like "Boast Busters" in a way now that I think about it. The audience kept ignoring Daffy but raving for Bugs until finally Daffy came up with an act that involved him swallowing a bunch of explosives (gasoline, nitro glycerin, etc.) and finally a match and blowing himself up. The crowd goes wild and Bugs admits it's an unbeatable act, and Daffy's angel floats away saying "Yeah, but you can only do it once!"
Yep, Saturday morning fare in the 1970s! So Trixie's Manticore Mouth-dive? Didn't even register with me, tho I can understand how others might see it that way.

I personally don't care for Trixie and this was just okay for me. May I ask a question thou. Even thou I get your point that Twilight ain't perfect, there is something of a repeating problem with her, she says she forgives a character but then in a later episode she meets the character with hostility and the character in question then proves he is slightly trustworthy. Pardon my rudeness but Trixie hasn't done anything as severe as this other character, the other character of course is Discord and he deserves mistrust. Surely all the times she has misjudged Discord(Misjudged was the best word I could think of), would mean she'd be able to give a character who hasn't betrayed her trust the benefit of the doubt because Trixie hasn't betrayed Twilight, she wasn't reformed in Boost busters thus her second appearance in Magic Duel would have been her reformed. Twilight seems to doing a bit of double standards because with some reformed characters she's understanding but with Trixie and Discord....totally mistrust. Sorry if I worded my question poorly but I hope it's okay. Anyway as normal Bliss great video.
So there's one thing I'm struggling to understand, and I guess it's not about the episode or your thought on it, but story elements,(It's a little off-topic and you don't have to answer)
My question is, what is bad about having a character be a plot device?
Of course, contrived and arbitrary plot devices are bad, but I don't see how or why a character being a plot device is bad. Something has to not only move the plot forward, but instigate it too. In a slice of life story-by story series like mlp, it only seems best for characters and character conflict to be plot devices.
So then how is it a bad thing? I know you don't really personally have a problem with this, but it sounds like you understand people who do; so if you or anyone else could tel me I'd be much obliged.
