    • @koriko88

      Worf always lost fights on TNG because he was constantly rushing up against beings far more powerful than he was, which they were encountering due to traipsing around the galaxy. DS9 was much better for him, as he was mostly encountering regular beings and not some energy being-possessed type.

      I would also note though it is a testament to his awareness of surroundings; there was a flash of green light but no one else seemed to react to it, and it seemed pretty clear he recognized her as a threat immediately. And mere seconds from having been, essentially, drugged into unconsciousness. And as many people elsewise have pointed out, it's not like there's a reason for him to think that she suddenly would be able to break the laws of physics with the amount of force she can exert. But I do think its fair to criticize internal security processes; any fleet would bury its admirals in shame if their vessels were taken over by enemies, whom don't even know the language of those running the ship and the tech they use to do so, as regularly as Starfleet. Hell I think Carnival cruise would hang their head in shame if they had a security record to match Starfleet.

    Although a decent episode, it would have been so easy for Picard, with a bit of foresight, to prevent this from happining. After initially agreeing to the terms with the Paxon, he could have asked the Paxon and Data to join him in his ready room. There he could make an audio and visual recording of him giving the orders to Data, being as vague as possible. It would begin with Dr Crusher performing a physical and psychological evaluation before being dismissed. "I'm ordering you to never speak again of what you witnessed when we entered sector xxxx. This video is a record of my orders, as I will shortly consent to having my memory and the memory of the crew erased. This record is to be classified under Lt. Commander Data's big ass unbreakable security clearance code. Data, your orders are to show this record to Captain Picard ONLY if all other efforts at preventing the return of the Enterprise to sector XXXX have failed. You are also ordered to destroy this record as soon as you deem it not necessary to retain."
    I have come to expect a bit more creative and pre-emptive thinking on the part of a starship captain. But then we wouldn't have this episode.

    • @bluestorm749
      @bluestorm749 2 ปีที่แล้ว +37

      I’ll disagree, since this leaves evidence of an unexplored secret. If anyone were to get ahold of this recording, then it’d be just a matter of investigating the situation intensely and all would eventually be revealed.
      Perhaps the coordinates and date of creation of the recording can be concealed, but there might be other ways to gleam useful information from the video.
      Also Data would probably never delete the recording until Picard's death, since a situation, where they could meet the Paxans again, however unlikely, could still occur.
      Picard's plan in the episode was one of the best possible ones, since it minimises the evidential footprint. Though a better solution would’ve been to delete the memory of every crew member, but not his own.

      Sometimes he doesn’t even have a say in someone poking in his head.
      Someone might accidentally discover it when he’s been knocked out by some electro-magnetic pseudoscience and can’t affect the repair procedure in anyway.

    • @bluestorm749
      @bluestorm749 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@emdivine that’s where my initial criticism comes in. The existence of an extra record in Data's memory makes a leak just a bit more probable. I recognise the logic in the comment above, but at the end it’s just extra evidence of a very important secret.
      Besides, even if Picard watches this video, then he’s almost just as clueless as before, except now there’s some guy identical to himself telling him to stop investigating.
      So in the end it’s just extra traces left in Data for someone to accidentally or intentionally discover. Also, if Picard does watch the record, whether he believes it or not, he may also leak evidence willingly or not.

      You know, I actually just assumed that betazed people might be alot stronger than anyone imagined and that due to their compassionate nature they simply don't want to hurt people when there isnt an alien controlling their body, like we think of the Klingons as the physically stronger startrek species but Klingons are activley aggressive and take pride in showing strength, betazeds are so peaceful that by the time the dominion war comes around they had all but disabled their own planetary defences and basically just surrendered which dosn't really rule out the possibility of them being physically stronger because their emotional strength is clearly high enough to not want to use their physical strength, that and I imagine killing someone when a betazed can feel everything their victim can would be a pretty scaring experience.
      My conclusion is, maybe betazeds aren't weak in the conventinal sence but are just so compassionate that other species veiw it as a weakness, imagine having the strength to snap a Klingons wrist and just letting the dominion take your home planet, they are too compassionate and that might be their only real weakness.

Or just to subtly help keep the Enterprise from accidentally returning to that planet, a job he obviously failed at in this episode.

      The problem is that in the story, Data operates as an intermediary between both species.
