I'm going to be going to Japan in April 2024 with my babies and the ex, we're moving there then. I am so scared that my ex will not be able to navigate Japan... all he knows is "Konnichiwa" I keep asking him to learn more, but we're working 2 jobs each. He says he has no time to learn. Will this be a problem when we go?
My sister when she cooks a big patch of soup, she makes it so thick almost like porridge. She says it takes less space to store and much easier to pack some for her daughters. Just add water when reheating.
I love your tiny measuring cup! Your video a while back about how you weren't embarrassed to have cute and tiny things in your house because they made you happy and your build a ladder mentality really stuck with me. I don't feel embarrassed by the cute things that bring me happiness anymore and decided that I'm worthy of buying myself cute trinkets and that the cost (luckily) has been trivial compared to the amount it can brighten each day. Thank you ❤
I’m so happy to hear that! It’s hard to remember sometimes that this is OUR life we are living, and if something small and cute brings us joy (and it isn’t hurting anyone) we should celebrate that something so simple can spark happiness.
PERFECT! I’m a teen librarian, and I’ve been LOOKING for an easy, tasty, savory recipe for pumpkin soup to make for the library Halloween party! I have a MASSIVE instant pot (it’s like 7 or 8 quarts) I can make this in; it’ll be PERFECT. This soup, a few crusty loaves of take and bake bread, and a big ol’ pumpkin-shaped cheese ball will make for a delicious Halloween evening! ❤ Thank you so much for sharing this recipe, Martina! All the recipes you post are always 10/10 delicious, so I’m sure this’ll be a massive hit. 😋
I really appreciate the amount of detail and info you give on each recipe, it always makes me feel like I understand and can adapt/use the recipe in new ways. I hope you’re doing well Martina!
If you can't find kabocha where you live, try looking for pie pumpkins instead. Like Martina mentioned, they're much smaller than the traditional jack-o-lantern pumpkins we're used to and they're actually intended to be eaten. Usually people just use them for making pumpkin pie from scratch, but you can do all sorts of delicious fall cooking with them!
Thank you for this recipe. Kabocha just went on sale at my local market for 68 cents each and I really wanted to buy some. Now I know what to make. Perfect timing!
It's fun how I did a similar recepie by roasting a whole butternut squash and sweet potatoes with garlic, sambal oelek and onion in the oven and then immersion blending it with oatcream ^^
THE TINY MEASURING CUP !!!! I am SO jealous omg, I also collect tiny things to sprinkle throughout my apartment, and I'm always so excited to see what you have! Need to find myself one
I made pumpkin curry last week. Got enough in the freezer to last until the apocalypse but my fave thing to make is pumpkin bread with dark and white chocolate chips.
Pumpkin soup, bread, spice or latte are not a thing here in Sweden, well we get the holiday coffee at Starbucks but I think it's not the same. I always wondered what it would taste like.
I haven't had the whole pumpkin spice latte thing either...I've been in Asia for almost 15 years now (crazy) and as a caucasian lady, I feel like I'm missing out on my cliche pumpkin spice latte stage haha
@@KingKogi I had my first one this year actually 2. I had one hot on the way to Stockholm for a concert. It wasn't Starbucks but another swedish coffee chain shop. And on my way back I had a iced. Wanted the coldbrew with pumpkin spiced cream but they were out of it. And to be honest I didn't like it that much. To sweet for me.
If you want to add a bit of extra protein, add a can of drained and rinsed white beans. They won't significantly alter the flavor and they blend up smooth.
Yum! Pumpkin soup is such an underrated comfort food. It’s perfect for those days when you aren’t feeling too good and can’t really stomach anything full on. Simple but delicious 👌❤️
I can totally source kabocha at farmer's markets in Durham Region and higher end supermarkets like Farm Boy and Longos but not so much at the RCSS and No Frills (how's that for a taste of home). Love from Pickering.
I'm SO happy it is finally cooler, Japan was a nightmare of hot humid sweat this summer, and I wasn't even here for all of it! I had to celebrate the slightly cooler weather with making soup
It has been a while since I found your video. I am relieved to see that you look well and that you still love Japan. I know you have been through a lot, but I am truly glad that you are doing well.
Yes I’m still here! And I’m doing the best I can do, still just being myself. Hopefully you enjoy this video and the others I’ve made the last few years 😊

@KingKogi do they have air fryer in Japan? It's super popular in America now and they only take up about as much space as a toaster or your instant pot!
I made the soup! I loved the diversity of spices that you used. I never thought to use garam masala! I couldn't puree my pumpkin perfect but the bits that remained still created a nice texture! It worked perfectly in the instapot too ❤
I tried this with acorn squash, and it was really good! I don't have an immersion blender to make it super smooth, but I went town with a potato masher and just ate the few lumps
Thanks for sharing! Yay!! I always worry myself into a tizzy that I didn’t explain every single detail or tool people could use and get worked up haha but I never thought about using a potato mashed! So simple duh Martina 🙄 haha
