  • Bohemian waxwings inhabit the wooded areas of Scandinavia and the dense taiga forests of northern Russia.
In winter, they migrate south when food is scarce, often after a successful breeding season that produces many young birds.
Since they rarely encounter humans in their breeding areas, they are remarkably tame and can sometimes be admired from very close up.
This wild bird was ringed in the UK with a scientific ring and a blue color ring on the right leg, and a blue, a green and a pale green ring on the left leg. It is a young male.
