How To Fix An Ignition Switch On A 1992 GMC Truck

I show how to disassemble and reassemble a steering column on my 1992 GMC K1500 project truck and repair an ignition switch. This same procedure should work for all 1988-1994 Chevy/GMC trucks and many other Chevy/GMC cars.

Great video. Only difference on my 93 C1500 was 2 additional torx screws holding the spring loaded plate down.

Thanks. Many of the 88-94 are very similar. Even the ignition in my 70 Nova is very close to the way these are put together.

Yes, it does.

Why was it replaced?

The key was broken off in the ignition, it was worn and the spare key was bent. For around $20, it was just better to replace the ignition switch lock.

Thank you. Mine starts sometimes and sometimes it don’t. I think the ICM is the next thing to tackle. 👍
