There used be a woman I knew back when I was 20 years old. I liked her alot. She used to hang out with my friends and I but I was super shy. So I found out one night that she loved this song. I also loved this song. Over the weeks I would play this song whenever she was around to get her to come and ask who was controlling the music/who owned the ipod. Eventually we started connecting. 11 years later we are still married and happier than ever. I owe almost everything great in my life to this song. EDIT: 2 years later we are still married and so happy together. This comment thread is honestly my greatest internet memory. Everytime yall comment it reminds of this awesome memory I have. Cheers! EDIT EDIT: TREAT YOUR WOMAN LIKE A QUEEN! Edit 27 March 2024: 500 replies. Can't reply anymore. Glad everybody enjoys my mushy love story about my wonderful wife haha. We are still together for sure and I dont see it ending at any point in the future.
I seen a rich man beg, I seen a good man sin, I seen a tough man cry, I seen a loser win, a sad man grin, heard an honest man lie….one of the hardest rhymes you will ever hear! 🔥
I was a convicted felon. trying to get a bed at the mission. down on my luck ready to give up at 30...16 years later got a great job making a 100k a year , my own pad and I even use the crosswalk to cross a street. Life uas it's twists and terns but it's up to us to make that change
I've seen a similar scene set down before me; what I saw (and worse: what I heard) was the sight of an empty seat where once someone so young I had just met sat, and laughed...and lived, and I sung an empty anthem at them, silently, since I couldn't say anything out loud without crying (can't write now without letting out even a little more), as I lay this down before you, unknown, no one and nothing says you'll even see silent tears I learned to cry from the violent years of my youth when it was I that got hit, and slapped around and out of the room if I woke up a still-drunken adult too soon, while someone was hung over after a night of hanging out, and partying down with various partners, something partly didn't seem right, yet to me it was a regular sight and if I made a sound unsettling their rest I was blessed with a hurl of slaps, smacked around the room, the very speech of Hate and Selfishness blasted into my face from some who Fate placed there to teach me about some myth everyone else called Love, so I learned to stay silent until I left for school; later days, in those crowded rooms I learned to stay quiet about everything that was happening to me, since I was constantly being moved around it was easy to not make a sound and quickly go from being unnoticed, or once known, seen as unlikely to succeed, unknown to them was the nightly insanity I saw, but mostly heard, as an only child of divorced parents, I learned to love the silent library, and love being alone since that guaranteed silence, at least a lot less violence hurled at me by others who would later profess they loved me and that it was my nine-year-old self that was lying in Court about their violence and poisoned resource. Now I've gone on and grown up, I've gained the awful knowledge I've learned a lesson only Life shows when it's they taken away too soon and not there that are teaching the awful life lessons of pain that I had autocorrected to be seen as Hate and heard as insanity, since I couldn't imagine a sane God made the scene real, to be asked to join strangers in a new to me older tradition of spirituality, so I left town to go farther East than ever before, to meet new people my Mom was adopted by, this new family of hers was now (back then, about '96) supposed to be mine, too, and it certainly felt like it when I was trusted just to keep an eye on their smallest, a nine year old girl, and, being in public, there wasn't ever a threat to defend her from, but I finally had a potential use for the violent aspect and I had to let it go, instead, so we went swimming in a fine hotel's cold swimming pool, and she then ran from there to the jacuzzi; and back again, repeatedly, but it somehow was enough to set her off into septic shock, and I didn't know what to do except get her out of the pool and to her parents, but by the time I found them she was gone.
@hollywoodsaint5 My good friend who we have a hate relationshiop. We were homeless at times together, but not romantically in love. We are still that way, but I just got so stoned I don't remember the topic.
This song came out when I was 19. I am now 43 and have lived every word of this song. Don't ever judge someone, you have no idea the burdens they are carrying. Be kind. To others and to yourself. *EDIT* THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO COMMENTED ON THIS POST. I didn't expect so many people to relate to it but it makes me happy to see how many kind individuals there are out there. God Speed to ALL of you!
I just posted almost the same thing. We were young and dumb 25 years ago. Now we are grown up and this song hits too close to home. Many died from drug addictions, suicide, etc. It's a crazy world 🌏
Wrong. You have no idea who anyone is until they show you. Judging people ends up harming all parties involved. I am old enough to know better, maybe one day you will be as well.@@AjninHaru
I was a hopeless alcoholic. I lost everything but I got sober. I got it back. All of it. Today June 3, 2024 I have four years sober. Never judge anyone lest you be judged. I lived this song.
@@RELENTLESS_CLIPZZ I understand. But, you don’t want to end up where I did. Alcohol is not the answer. It feels like it is. But, it will take everything until it takes your life. Job, home, family, self worth…until you are alone with it. That’s why alcohol is called a spirit. Respect man. I know your struggle.
This song is a timeless testament to a fundamental truth of humanity. Life is fucked up for a lot of people, but if we take the time to understand each other, then none of us is ever truly alone.
"Seen a Rich man beg, seen a good man sin, and seen a tough man cry. Seen a looser win and a sad man grin, heard an honest man lie." This line hit me hard. Reminds us all to stay humble. Life has sent me to the mat a few times but I keep getting back up and learn from whatever knocks you down in life.
This song truly explains the pains of life. Never kick a man when they’re down , help them up if can . Most not all people seem to not care about one another anymore. Sad world we live in . Anyone reading this god bless you .

This was my father's favorite song. He passed away with my step mom brother and 2 sisters when I was 13 months old in a house fire. I'll forever treasure this song. He lives through Everlast!
I'm 57 n I agree unlike Alex's comments I believe I have a wide range of music especially w teenagers but this song sticks to me also don't mind it but no fowl language to get the point across
I lived in a homeless shelter, lost everything. I heard this song when I was 17, I’m now 36 and I feel like it foreshadowed my life. I’m now thriving and still currently loving this song.
Been there Sara. Emancipated minor and living in a broke down car at 16. I took responsibility for my actions, received my GED in basic training, outlived most of my addict friends, never looked back but never forgot either. Good for you sister👍
if i come out the liquar store and theres a man sittin on the ground leaning up against the building...if i got it on me i give em 10 bucks knowing dam well hes gonna buy boose with it...i mean what else is he gonna do with it ...put it towards his tuition to Harvard..
It's amazing how many intricate guitar songs there are our there that are pretty good - then you hear this simple 3-chord song that is insanely phenomenal . Keepin it simple is often the way to go - timeless tune!
I remember listening to this song with my dad in the early 2000s. He passed away sadly due to an accidental overdose while I was in a treatment center for opiates. I remember leaving the service and sitting down with some roommates of mine breaking down crying. Out of nowhere my house manager comes into the room, picks up the guitar, and starts playing this song. This is the only song I would ever tie to my father especially on an acoustic guitar. It took me back instantly to riding in my fathers truck and him showing me all of his favorite songs. I never believed in any sort of afterlife or anything spiritual until after that moment. I knew that was my fathers way of saying everything will be alright and I will never forget it. I love and miss you so much papa and I hope you're looking down at me proud....
God is good my man, I've been addicted since I found my dad's hard core porn stash at age 8...started smoking weed at 12..I've never stopped and I am so glad I found God, He's saving me as we speak, so the best advice I can give is DON'T GIVE UP, it will get better God bless you 🙏 don't quit
So timeless. I am german and listened this song when i was 14 i could not understand as i did not learn english yet. i just listened because i loved the song it self. but now i realize its not just a song. Its a statement which is even now present. lets fight together for a better world.
The best cure for depression is helping someone else. Seeing the joy on your face when you change someone’s life, is addictive. You’re gonna want it again. Joy is contagious.
I was homeless over 20 years ago. Today I an advocate for the voiceless who are suffering. I know what it feels like to have nothing and have complete strangers help me, I also know what it feels like to be judged. Today I speak to empower change and now that I have money I am able to help those in need!
When you help others you soon learn you are really helping yourself. Humility, humbleness, and love.kindness are life's lessons. Also, judge not least you be judged.
@@cv6442No point in giving someone a fish, they just become dependent on you, unless you are manipulative and that's what you want. The trick is to teach people to fish. Unfortunately not everyone wants to learn to fish, and people who DO fish after a point don't feel like being slaves to those that won't.
@@stevefleming356 it was a success but if I asked random people if they know who Everlast is or if they know the song What it’s like, I’d mostly get blank stares. Some might go “oh yeah, I know Everlast, they make great gym clothes.”
I'm 40 and I tell my husband this is one of my soul songs. I love this song. It's about not judging people. We all come from different situations. But unless you walk a mile in someone else's shoes....
My mom always played this song after my dad passed, she said it had a bigger meaning. I never fully understood. He was a good man that got lost and didn’t have anyone to help him when he needed it. I listen to it a lot to remind myself we all have our own paths and struggles. Him and this song taught me to never judge someone, but to offer my help.
This song still has a very profound message. Walk in the other person’s shoes before judging them. Be thankful you have money to buy food, stay in a comfortable house and have light and heat through the winter.
Everytime I listen to this song it brings me to tears. Anyone thats been thru a lot of shit In their lives understand this song. One of the realest songs ever written.
Believe me I don’t understand people who judge others when they know nothing about them, we have been through the worst year ever and when you need people the most they don’t understand or care, it’s to sad
THE MOST HONEST LINE IN THIS SONG, talking about all the high scale experience he's had... " You know where it ends usually depends on where you start." Just the raw insight that he knows where he came from, how fortunate he is and his eyes are still open to everything around him regardless.
But also sees everyone around him going though the things they are while being judged. And they don't know what's its like...till they have been in there shoes!! Best song ever ❤
That's very interesting to me, because I always thought he was referencing that statement to his relationship experience... You know...-like if you start a relationship with a gorgeous cheater, after "helping" them cheat on their lover... In the future they are definitely going to cheat on you. Or you on them. Or both. Or the relationship will just end because you can never fully trust each other. But now that I've lived a little longer, I've met couples who started, "dirty" ... And are still together to this day. So, who really knows. But it's beautiful how these lyrics stir the souls of everyone here enough to type about it. 🙂
@@cuccarachaa5722 I’ve never even considered this lyric to be about a relationship, but it totally can. However, I think using the lyric in a general sense so that it can apply to every interpretation is what he was going for. Thank you for posting.
This song got me through so many relapses and many MANY days spent rotting away in detox. This year marks 11 years clean. I'm not looking back but I can honestly say that this song played a vital role in my rehabilitation story.good stuff.all started with my Drill Instructor in bootcamp playing it to me for the first time when it dropped when I was having a tough day....
I'm 76 years old, and I believe this is one of the best songs and videos ever! The tone of the song is much like an updated version of the protest songs we heard in the 60's and 70's. We didn't have the videos, of course, but we saw some of it live on television. The music and scenes match perfectly - great job Everlast!
@@deanmaker.4916 That kind of thinking is exactly why we cant have nice things in the world. Be good to others, you dont know what they have been through.
I will not help people that don't work and want to be a bum always asking for cigarettes and money I have had it they ask for cigarettes and money instead of that just ask for a job .
I remember expecting something vastly different and potentially only something to ridicule, instead it's for only solo karaoke because it's dedicated to more and more spirits every year
I have been homeless and pregnant and 15 and nothing to eat, my son was born 2 months early and under weight. I kept both of my children, they are every fiber of my being. So when you see a homeless person or a young pregnant girl down on their luck please don't just pass them by and please don't judge. God bless.
And the thing that irritates me the most is at Christmas the wealthy will help a homeless person, pat themselves on the back, then spend the rest of the year complaining about them. I make $400/month as a caregiver for my disabled sister. I STILL help the homeless all year long. Once a month, I go find one, and help however I can. Not patting myself on the back. I could be one of them any minute.
64 years old & never get tired of listenting to this song. Still have have the cd. You guys will always rock & tell it like it is. Hope some people are really listening to the story
I met everlast at a subway in studio city, he was a really down to earth guy. True legend. Thanks for being so nice to me everlast, because your music changed my life.
The dude was the first artist for ice t to sign and promote with his 'rap syndicate' label and not just the first 'white' rqpper chosen had a lot to do with helping a lot of other dudes get there respect due. Eminem has aged like some clown shit and evalast is just getting more iconic and legendary. That real slim shady track from icp, necro, evalast etc, was fuckin funny as and is only g9nna come from real artists and independent labels who don't give a fuck about the profit margins, the same way 5hey care about their product or integrity and yw can't not respect that. Dude obviously aims doing it for the money when it doesn't exist and the albums just bring scrutiny and problems for himself. Thats someone we should all look up to
This song is more relatable today that it was even then... seems many people have only gotten more judgemental and cruel. I hope this song makes a big comeback bc we need it more than ever.
If you're always thinking about what other people are doing, how they think of themselves or others, etc; you aren't going to make it to homeplate either. ^^
Reading the comments here has touched my heart so much it makes me cry. So MANY people have shared painful stories that were made better because of this song. I can't thank Everlast enough for writing and producing this song. I dare to say it is anointed by something bigger than us. My heart goes out to all the people who have shared their stories here.

This song reminds me of my childhood, my dad kicked drugs and got clean and stay clean in under 2 months inorder to get custody of me. The respect i have for him is immeasurable. Love you dad
Been homeless a good part of my life, I met some really good people out there, many I hold close to my heart to this day , some I believe I will never forget. GREAT SONG!!!
God bless you brother and I'm the one that loves to help his community and I met great people who have been homeless and when I was younger I also was homeless with my family living in motels and a trailer for two years and I thank God I went through that cause you don't know what's it's like to walk in another man's shoes until we all do.
This song never will get old. It is full of compassion and knowledge. So well written, and most of all, a beautiful man thought enough about it to write a song about it.
You think Erik knew he'd written a masterpiece? This captures it all, and it does it in such a way you can't ignore it because we've all seen it. That's talent. Thank you for sharing that, Erik.
This song is a valuable lesson on Judgement and why you should never judge a person based on the situation they find themselves in....The world could use more songs like this, a true lesson on the values of understanding and empathy!
You can't reduce it to a fucking platitude. He's not saying, "Everybody be nicer because you don't know what someone else is going through." It's an indictment of society and a statement of how shitty marginalized people are treated. This song was way ahead of its time.
The ending says it all. It's one thing to be hungry. but to be hungry and watch a feast is relative deprivation. Adds salt to the wound. Been listening to this song since its release and it never fails to recenter my life. incredible talent at a time when these issues were not something musicians wrote about.
The message this video gives at the end showing a bunch of people, including the 3 that were talked about in the song, looking at a well off family eating at a table... laughing and having a good time. To me i took this as that family is symbolism for all those who judge without knowing others' experiences.
I'll never forget being a young boy walking into the record store at the mall with my father who hates anything made after 1985 in the music world and hearing him ask the clerk for the new everlast cassette I thought it was for one of my cousins as a gift until I seen him ripping it open in the parking lot and literally walking briskly to get to his caddy to put this song on I was literally blown away. It just proves good music is good music
Everlast is a prohet, his music transcends space and time. Not only does he really have soul. He cares for the so called less fortunate. Thank you Erick!

Dad just passed away yesterday. The last thing he sent me was this youtube video. I wish id replied more and asked more about his life and who he actually was. Will never have that chance now but its ok. People rarely get closure or answers. He was reaching out and trying so hard but i just wasnt ready for it. Always assumed there'd be more time since he was only in his mid 50s. Love you dad. Will play chess with you again one day. Hopefully many years from now but still. One day. You were a bastard but you were my dad and things weren't always bad. I will always be thankful for you pulling us out of that messy situation in Arkansas.

Talent gets attention in the internet age, so plenty of views on this and some of his other tracks too but Schrody's been busy over the decades and doesnt seek the big spotlight. Sincere artist.
I just woke up with this tune in my head. I've always liked it, but, never learned the lyrics. Now that I have, it's a powerful song. It's a good reminder to stay humble and be compassionate. One never knows when things can turn sour.
This song right here in my opinion is the best representation of life still to this day. We’re all drowning, in over our heads somehow, some of us are trying to pick up pieces which weren’t our fault. We can dwell on it or pick ourselves up and move forward, choices.

I've been listening to the songs from this era for a couple hours now. The one thing that I've enjoyed the most are all of the memories that everyone has shared. A lot of good, a lot of bad, a lot of happy and a lot of sad. I really do appreciate all of you helping to make all of these songs even that much more memorable all these years later.
I fucking love this tune, so real, so deep and so understanding of the realities of life. Not everyone is blessed with good fortune all of the time. A little compassion goes a long way and should not be underestimated.
I was homeless when this song came out . It kept me out of trouble. I was a user of different kinds of drug. Not now I met a beautiful kind hearted person who helped me get away from the drugs and garbage of the homeless life . Now where married and going on are 22nd anniversary but been together for 28 years. Iam glad I met her shes my life my rock and my best friend. Love you so much Samantha
You should never forget that you were homeless once and never disrespect anyone that is homeless no matter what they are doing to get their needs met. The homeless population is roughly 90 + percent males and they are the ones that for the most part refused to be pussy whipped and bowed down
This is is a beautiful testimony. 🥺🥰 Truly. It's amazing the impact words, spoken or sung is song, can be to a person. This song means so much to me. It's saved me, and now I live a comfortable life. More so than the average person. I'm 33 and don't have to work. But I don't let this change me. This song is a reminder that we are all people, and all people are worthy of love. It's my reminder to always be the kind, giving, and helpful person I have always been. It's my reminder that I'm no different than the homeless mother with her children barely surviving in their car that barely works. That I'm no different than the millionaire down the road from me. I vowed to always help people when I can, and I do to this day, thanks to the things that remind me to stay true to myself, like this song. ❤️ I love how much you adore your sweet Samantha. You can see it just by hoe you type about her.
That scene at the end of the video... Those struggling watching the family eat dinner together behind glass... Powerful and heartbreaking at the same time. Timeless song, thanks OG Everlast.
@@tcb9775 Apologies 😕 I meant that the "family" behind the glass have scripted themselves to how they want us to think their lives are. "They" have as many, if not more, issues than us in the real world. And you are quite right--happening EVERYDAY
The All-American, white, middle/upper class couple with their 2.5 children...all of them blissfully unaware of what life is like for anyone else; too blind to their own good fortune to even be grateful for it.
It shouldn't have taken a song to make anyone realize that everyone has problems. Always be kind to the cranky people you run into. You might be the only one who says something nice that makes their day better.
So true some of us it hard as kids and choose the hard but at the time a lot of wasted years I’m in a good place now it only took until my 50s cheers leejean?
The message here: don’t judge or harm people who are down. They have enough struggles as it is. If you can’t help them, pray for them, if you can’t pray for them leave them alone.
T Laut, I agree. Prayer is useless and empty. It never stopped any war, it never miraculously cured any disease or fed any starving children ect. It’s just a way for people to FEEL like they’re doing something without having to actually do anything.
Never look down on anybody because yu never know when yu could be in same situation. I think we all need to help each other- praying?? Ya my praying isn’t going to help somebody who hasn’t eaten in days, or no place to go- maybe it makes me feel better because I think “I’m doing something to help”??
Folks, I think many didn’t quite understand my comment. I stated if you can’t (the key word here is can’t ) leave them alone. I wasn’t encouraging anyone or imposing my view or opinion upon anyone. Prayer is something I do. I don’t judge your methods or principles so chilly chill chill! Lol. Be well everyone!
I was born in 1951 and I've heard a lot of different music in my time . This one touches my soul. In my humble opinion this song is as good as anything Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen have written .
I came along in 58, went through Tull, Leon Russell, moody blues, and you know the rest. We can't. Judge who's the best.....they all got us what we needed to get through it. From BB king. To Eric, to Marshall Tucker. Don't forget. Lead zeppelin. Love will win😉
The lyrics still ring true to today's world, as it was, as it is, as it will be? Be better, make good choices & be kind people. You have the opportunity to make this world better, let's do that. ✌❤
I listen to this as I start my third year at university after finishing two years at a community college with straight A's. I ran from home 18 and was homeless. I couched surfed and wound up all over the eastern seaboard, but right now I'm sitting in my brand new apartment just thinking about those days, and celebrating life. I never thought I would get this far. I know what's it's like, and I hope I never forget when I see someone else.
This, to me. Is a song that will never age. It's meaning is something that can affect you no matter what your age or background. It is a beautiful piece of music.
I’m sure like you, we have lost count on how many times we have listened to this song. But despite all those plays each time the song always hits true and never looses it’s appeal. It really is a masterpiece in its own way.
@@vaskylark I think a song, a piece of literature, a movie or whatever, can present or open a person up to a new perspective. After all, some art is supposed to have meaning, not just blind entertainment. However, one song shouldn't be shaping you entirely as a person. I'm pretty sure the OP was exaggerating for the sake of showing their love for the song. That's the context I take it in anyway
"Then you really might know what it's like to have to choose." As a 14 year old girl when this came out this line and the preceding lyrics spoke to me. I still get goosebumps to this day.
It’s very difficult to find a hit from 99 with 3 timeless facts 1. the Video is still on Point 2. the Beat is still on Point 3. the Verses is still on Point This is a timeless hit 🙏🏼
@Jay Leno that depends on the context. With this song, yeah... Its sucks that it's still on point, but it is. It can also be a good thing. It can bring awareness.
Jay Leno dont get me wrong I don’t know much about your country! I’m from Germany and just saying that this track is Timeless! I watched a lot of 99-00 chart breaker videos and then I found this! A buddy I worked with brought in the album whitey ford sings the blues and played it in the shop for about a month, he thought it was great, and loved this song. He passed away 3yrs ago on Aug 31st. I opened TH-cam on Aug 31st and this song showed up in my recommended section. I hadn’t heard it since working with Chris 20yrs ago. For you, mate.
I remember being stopping in my tracks the first time I heard this song when it aired in CA. I cried tears from the heart of compassion I didn't know was inside of me, not yet having suffered these pains myself. I still cry like a crocodile every time I listen to this one. I am Ever grateful to the spirit that inspired Everlast to write this song. I think all of us know what it's like to have blues now. Oh how sweet it feels receive a little tenderness when were down and out. There are those who suffer earlier than others, much earlier, even the white shirts and skirts suffer. I found that suffering gives birth to compassion. Love is Everlasting, its touch never dies. We are living lights that love shines through. Keep on "remembering what's like...." Feeling one another is the natural medicine that heals the world. Right action follows when feel instead of judgments, though often afterward we have hurt another. The touch from pain waters the dormant love within us. Sorry to be so long winded. Best to y'all.
I just found this sound, my dad use to listen to this when he was dating my mom. Now hearing it over and over I have came to love this song. It’s not the rum thing or the guitar, but the truth.
I agree on point!!

It’s good to judge. Judging others is important. Judging another person may very well keep you from getting robbed or murdered.
Wrong. You have no idea who anyone is until they show you. Judging people ends up harming all parties involved. I am old enough to know better, maybe one day you will be as well.@@AjninHaru
Be compassionate to people. You have no idea the power of kindness for that person who’s suffering.

This song is a timeless testament to a fundamental truth of humanity. Life is fucked up for a lot of people, but if we take the time to understand each other, then none of us is ever truly alone.
We don’t all share the same fortune tho and that’s really where it all starts
I understand that they get everything for free and not go get a job and stop asking for cigarettes and money.

Words ring resonant!
"Seen a Rich man beg, seen a good man sin, and seen a tough man cry. Seen a looser win and a sad man grin, heard an honest man lie." This line hit me hard. Reminds us all to stay humble.

But now that I've lived a little longer, I've met couples who started, "dirty"
... And are still together to this day. So, who really knows. But it's beautiful how these lyrics stir the souls of everyone here enough to type about it. 🙂

Everlast is a prohet, his music transcends space and time. Not only does he really have soul. He cares for the so called less fortunate. Thank you Erick!
Such respect for artists who use their fame to promote social justice and awareness...songs like this are truly a gift...thanks, Tommy Boy for uploading this!

I dont need to say who I am...I all know..just food for thoughts.. Many can say I'm wrong for the things I say or do, can you all go through all I have in the last 3 yrs and still be alive and well? Im no different than any of you.. I bleed the same as any of you. Im not saying that I haven't thought wrong or did wrong. If I could get what money I had coming to me before I went to prison. I could easily forget the past and move on... I'm, just not willing to walk away from money that I had owed for 19 yrs..child support, stocks, bonds, shares in companies + more...im broke my health is shitty and for the first time in my life I wanted a decent life to live and relax..How is that so damn wrong?
@george blunders I'm in need of some green right now...i feel like nothing really matters to me anymore...ive treated my enemies better than others been treating there family can't we all just get along
Hey it's lost ma
Hey it's a friend at Gateway downtown who is born in the past
One of the most influential rock songs of all time. Classic rock stations always play the top 500 of all times. This one should always be in the top 3.
One of the most underrated musical artist.

Talent gets attention in the internet age, so plenty of views on this and some of his other tracks too but Schrody's been busy over the decades and doesnt seek the big spotlight. Sincere artist.
be kind to everyone. You never know what battles they're facing. life is too short to spread hate. ❤

great words davona!!!

Very well said & perfectly true ✌🏼
Our choices are being limited in a so called free world.
@@roxannemoser Yeah most of my problems are from government corruption and over reach.
Sadly a lot of people have the same problem and don't realize the problem is government.
THANK YOU Needed this comment today
True....
The song is filled with wisdom
Many people in this world a paycheck away from this reality agree.
after all these years this song still makes me cry everytime i hear it. all we can do is look out for each other. cheers
That's Wonderful that how the L9rd brought you two together....
I'm glad life is good for you
💘🙏
That scene at the end of the video... Those struggling watching the family eat dinner together behind glass... Powerful and heartbreaking at the same time. Timeless song, thanks OG Everlast.
Most heartbreaking for real- scripted reality, right?
@@etherealpink731 idk what you mean, but it's happening everyday
@@tcb9775 Apologies 😕 I meant that the "family" behind the glass have scripted themselves to how they want us to think their lives are. "They" have as many, if not more, issues than us in the real world. And you are quite right--happening EVERYDAY
@@etherealpink731 it's all good. ☺️
The All-American, white, middle/upper class couple with their 2.5 children...all of them blissfully unaware of what life is like for anyone else; too blind to their own good fortune to even be grateful for it.
This song really shows everyone’s struggles and how you really don’t know what it’s like, until you do.
It shouldn't have taken a song to make anyone realize that everyone has problems. Always be kind to the cranky people you run into. You might be the only one who says something nice that makes their day better.
Yupp
Absolutely
It's there problem when they screw up when they were younger.
So true some of us it hard as kids and choose the hard but at the time a lot of wasted years I’m in a good place now it only took until my 50s cheers leejean?
Me, blown away by his speaking truth on social commentary about humanity. Dylan would be proud of Everlast's lyrics I'm sure.
The message here: don’t judge or harm people who are down. They have enough struggles as it is. If you can’t help them, pray for them, if you can’t pray for them leave them alone.
Praying is a sad excuse for an attempt to help someone
T Laut, I agree. Prayer is useless and empty. It never stopped any war, it never miraculously cured any disease or fed any starving children ect. It’s just a way for people to FEEL like they’re doing something without having to actually do anything.
Never look down on anybody because yu never know when yu could be in same situation. I think we all need to help each other- praying?? Ya my praying isn’t going to help somebody who hasn’t eaten in days, or no place to go- maybe it makes me feel better because I think “I’m doing something to help”??
Well said
Folks, I think many didn’t quite understand my comment.
I agree with you 💯
Up there with the best for sure. One hit is all it takes
Totally.

I came along in 58, went through Tull, Leon Russell, moody blues, and you know the rest. We can't. Judge who's the best.....they all got us what we needed to get through it. From BB king. To Eric, to Marshall Tucker. Don't forget. Lead zeppelin. Love will win😉
To me this song is lyrically one if the most beautiful and relevant songs I've ever heard and I'm 60. ❤️❤️❤️
Congratulations, keep ya head up.
I listen to this song every morning before starting my job
This, to me. Is a song that will never age. It's meaning is something that can affect you no matter what your age or background.
It is a beautiful piece of music.
And you're a beautiful woman
I’m sure like you, we have lost count on how many times we have listened to this song. But despite all those plays each time the song always hits true and never looses it’s appeal. It really is a masterpiece in its own way.
I credit this song for teaching me the value of empathy. Listening now more than ever in 2020.
Fuck yeah I was just listening for the same reason 👊
Be careful....being an empath 2020 might consume you.
Something for all of us to work toward
For real
This is THE Empathy Anthem. Always has been. What a fucking legend Everlast is.
Why I love it. He seems so bad@$$ but also so vulnerable.
"Then you really might know what it's like to have to choose." As a 14 year old girl when this came out this line and the preceding lyrics spoke to me. I still get goosebumps to this day.
Dis makes me think of a sublime song.. 😖
Lmao, typical 14 year old girl, for sure white. Don’t even try and lie either
It’s very difficult to find a hit from 99 with 3 timeless facts
1. the Video is still on Point
2. the Beat is still on Point
3. the Verses is still on Point
This is a timeless hit 🙏🏼
Your synopsis is on point....
Word
Truth!
For me it’s nice to see some old memories about 99-00 but it’s hard to find a track what is timeless like this one! The quality is amazing
God bless any of you listening to this going through a rough time.
Thanks man.
Thanx Matt! God Bless You!

I'm going through easy times and still love it.
Thank u
Somehow I think you actually do "know what it's like"... Thank you for caring.
Please don’t cry crocodile tears. Life is hard. I’ve been there.
"Crocodile" tears mean Fake tears, just though you might like to know
Technically speaking, crocodile tears are fake...but I get your point!
Plz don’t cry I will 😢. Wow I dident know people were so kind on here.
I just found this sound, my dad use to listen to this when he was dating my mom. Now hearing it over and over I have came to love this song. It’s not the rum thing or the guitar, but the truth. The world we are in today can connect to this song. Now almost 16, with a guitar, I have learned to play this for my dad.

Just saying, you never know where those shoes have been.
This song taught high school me empathy. It was of the most important life lessons I've ever learned. Today, anytime my kids ask me what my favorite song is, I point them to this. Thank you, Everlast.
I think Boyd is an phenomenal singer. Gives me chills.... wow 👌
Song brings tears to my eyes... only when I started getting older I really understood the message.

Amazing how this song has become more relevant today than it was when it was released. Def. in my top 10 favorite songs and videos. I also love that near the end he admitted to his own faults too, it shows he is just as broken as they are. Brilliant and raw.
