Gizzy has been exemplary in the Aussie super cars. He and Scott Mclaughlin were having great battles but Scott went to Indycar a couple of seasons ago and Gizzy seemed a bit bored since. Street races are his forte so not a big surprise that he was dominant. If he does go to NASCAR then hopefully the pack catch up with him on the street circuits as they will likely own him on the ovals initially.
@@ceelothatmane9421 This isn't normal NASCAR, it's typically oval racing. Different set of challenges to drive in, but to viewers, it looks like it's just racing in circles. However, when you know the Gs being pulled, how much the draft plays and such, oval racing is actually fun to watch. It's that chase and the slow creep behind bumpers, bit by bit. In terms of action, street circuits hold more of that for general viewers, which I guess is why NASCAR is trying it out here. I'm thinking it paid off as it looked like everyone enjoyed it.

I’m not even from NZ just a humble Aussie but man oh man does it make me proud to see this. What a performance! It will be sad to see him leave Supercars but with how bad the new cars are and how dominant he’s been in the series over the last years I’m sure he’s ready for a new challenge.
I'm pretty sure the Erebus team wouldn't agree that the new cars are bad, lol. They seem to be the only team who has got a handle on Gen3 so far. And young Broc Feeney ("Mr Sunday" as they're calling him now) seems happy enough. I don't think the new cars are "bad" per se, just that they are REALLY different from the previous cars and it's taking a little while for everyone to understand them. Given how good SVG is as adapting to different cars I was expecting him to kill it this year but for some reason he's not happy. It's a weird one. With 888 boss Whincup now talking about letting SVG out of his contract at the end of the year I wonder if there's some friction within the team or something. Maybe they want him gone. I dunno.

This race went better than I could have ever imagined. Shane van Gisbergen winning is the icing on the cake. I would definitely love to see him do more Nascar races.
I didnt even know SVG was doing a nascar race until I saw the headline that he'd won. Then I read the article and it said "street circuit, in the wet". I dont think there could have been a more favourable condition to him. That is literally his forte. Seeing him school the field at their own game was glorious. SVG is an absolute legend, give him anything with 4 wheels and a steering wheel and he'll put it at the front of the field no questions asked.
Please tell me it could be a triple back to back next week if Suarez wins. He was running in the top 10 what happened to him? Also my favorite team is Trackhouse and since they came in they have been my go to team. Also do you think Suarez will get a win next week at Atlanta for the three peat win for Trackhouse?
This is the best driver I've ever seen in nascar because he doesn't try to wreck drivers in front. He's like inches from their rear bumper then passes with precision.
When you are lucky enough to be in a car that is working perfectly (a rare thing) and a driver that can put it to good use, you don't feel the need to touch anybody, not to take anything away from this young mans incredible drive to the win, against some of the best we have.
Amazing drive by Gizzy. Utilizing patience the man carved through the field, it's what makes him a beast and to adapt fast speaks volumes too. That's what made him so ferocious in Supercars.
the in car camera broadcast that weekend was with him, I watched him getting positions in a clean cut every lap... Haley was really the only one that actually put up some fight. It was great
Trackhouse is really coming into its own now. In just two seasons with two full time drivers, they’ve grown into making Ross a championship contender, making Daniel a race winner, granting Kimi Raikkonen a career revival, and now making Shane van Gisbergen a race winner in his debut! I’m really impressed! Hopefully, Shane can make a full time debut someday. He’d be great here, if he keeps this performance up in any other future starts he makes.
Wow, I liked F! racing and admired Nascar, but NOW I am hooked! I moved out of Chicago in 2020, but I still love the highlights, sights and all of the great things you can do in Chicago. Lake Shore Drive is awesome, and to have this Nascar event there as a City event was great. I wonder how many people made it down from Wisconsin, and especially Indiana? This is HOW you expand interest in a sport. Great job Nascar and Chicago!!! Keep Nascar alive and kicking!!! Great revenue for ALL and great fun for ALL! Win-Win! Considering that he's probably got more street-course experience than the rest of the field combined, and that he's just an amazing wheelman in a V8 Supercar, I'm not completely surprised he could pull this off. Freaking awesome.
He's a kiwi but there can be no disregarding the Aussie super car series that has honed his skills. It's the tightest most technical series there is and yes I am a kiwi. Great result for Australasia.

At first I thought the track layout looked boring, but seeing how many drivers struggled with it, I'm glad it wasnt anything too technical. Seems like everybody came together to put on a pretty good event.

As much as it pains me to say it being Australian, Kiwis have always punched above their weight in most things but especially motorsport. Bruce McLaren, Denny Hulme, Chris Amon, Jim Richards, Greg Murphy, Scott Dixon, Scott Mclaughlin and now SVG. I'm sure I've forgotten some as well tbh.
Shane van Gisbergen did what nobody has done in the Cup series since 1963, winning in his first series start. The last person to do that? Johnny Rutherford.

Anyone that knows v8 Supercars knows that Shane set Tracey up after the overtake by moving Into the middle to take away Tracey’s racing line and clean exit. Svg is an absolute beast on circuit, the fact too that everyone was shocked he uses heel and toe to drive is more shocking. You can settle your car using this method
We need more street races, this was so entertaining to watch and brings something different to the series, great job NASCAR hopefully we'll have better weather next year
Spot on! The circuit was faster than everyone expected. Just imagine the speed with a bone dry track. I almost wish they would have postponed the race until Monday like Indy 500 does with rain. But no worries, this was a great race!

Van Ginsberg is a Bathurst 1000 legend. This Chicago race is a mere afternoon stroll for him. The American car racers are just hopelessly inept and never/rarely win at Bathurst. This Chicago race is something like we have in Oz/New Zealand, called Supercars or Touring Car. Complex tracks with plenty of spectacle and opportunities for surprise.
Let’s not forget he isn’t some young kid just starting out. He has been racing and winning in probably the best touring car series on the planet for a long time now. The dude is just fast in any car he is given.
I've been watching The Giz in the Aussie Supercars pretty much since he entered the motorsport, and it was plain as day he was a natural, with all the hallmarks of a champion to be. His winning at this new level in touring cars does not surprise me one bit. Awesome stuff Giz.
It was written on the walls. SVG always gives his other drivers hope of victory before snatching it from their in cruel, wicked fashion. It’s just what the Giz does.
Once qualifying ended and people took notice of how good he really was, his stock shot up. Entering the race he was tie with Martin Truex with the third highest chance to win at +1600, prior to qualifying he was +4000.

SVG is a beast. While on many level's it's astonishing that he just showed up and won a cup event, I think NASCAR fans need to get familiar with V8 Supercars. He's been throwing big, heavy, high horsepower V8's with sequential shifters around for a bit now. Is a Supercar just like a modern cup car? No, but they are similar in a lot of key ways. They also race on a lot of street circuits. Pushing a car like this around a street circuit is SVG's bread and butter. I'm not shocked at all he had this much pace, though winning the race is definitely shocking.
I'm a big SVG fan, I've never watched a full NASCAR race before, but I watched this entire race more than twice. I watched the onboard camera of Giz, I was impressed with Kyle Larson. SVG passed him and then Larson followed in behind passing everyone until he got to P4...I'll be watching more in the future, Larson is now the man I'm following on NASCAR!!
Larson and SVG are greats of their respective series running for the best teams in the series (Larson for Hendrick, SVG for Triple Eight). Nothing short of great can come out of that

At first I thought the track layout looked boring, but seeing how many drivers struggled with it, I'm glad it wasnt anything too technical. Seems like everybody came together to put on a pretty good event.

Yea I've watched Shane many times in V8 Supercars the Dude can drive no question about it his braking and corner entry speed and rolling through the corner is 2nd to none, great job Shane and also to Justin and Trackhouse Racing for preparing a awesome competitive car for Shane Great Job guys real popular Win all around!

@@AEMoreira81mate he’s driving from the complete opposite side of the car than he’s used to, shifting gears with the opposite hand in a car he’s never driven on a course he’s never raced on. To say that was easy is completely unfair and doesn’t speak to the talent of the guy.
SVG was in his own class, just absolutely amazing! Calm, collected, error free drive in an unknown conditions, for a very first time. This guy is the definition of talent.

As a Supercars fan and not the biggest nascar fan of nascar had more street circuits like this the sport would have another viewer

As much as it pains me to say it being Australian, Kiwis have always punched above their weight in most things but especially motorsport. Bruce McLaren, Denny Hulme, Chris Amon, Jim Richards, Greg Murphy, Scott Dixon, Scott Mclaughlin and now SVG. I'm sure I've forgotten some as well tbh.
To name a few more - Sir Edmund Hilary, Peter Snell, Johnnie Walker, Jonah Lomu and few dozen other all Blacks. Many others

Im a aussie and that Chicago course is similar to the gold coast track he is soo used to
Anyone that knows v8 Supercars knows that Shane set Tracey up after the overtake by moving Into the middle to take away Tracey’s racing line and clean exit. Svg is an absolute beast on circuit, the fact too that everyone was shocked he uses heel and toe to drive is more shocking. You can settle your car using this method
Shane was literally born for this type of race course, and then some. It’s only fitting that he’d win Nascar’s first street course.
Especially since half the tracks in V8 Supercars are street circuits including Bathurst

Spot on! The circuit was faster than everyone expected. Just imagine the speed with a bone dry track. I almost wish they would have postponed the race until Monday like Indy 500 does with rain. But no worries, this was a great race!

It's a street track which he's accustomed to. But to win on debut in a new car and track is something else. He'll be back full-time for sure
Van Ginsberg is a Bathurst 1000 legend. This Chicago race is a mere afternoon stroll for him.
The American car racers are just hopelessly inept and never/rarely win at Bathurst. This Chicago race is something like we have in Oz/New Zealand, called Supercars or Touring Car. Complex tracks with plenty of spectacle and opportunities for surprise.
Let’s not forget he isn’t some young kid just starting out. He has been racing and winning in probably the best touring car series on the planet for a long time now. The dude is just fast in any car he is given.
My man....how he or Scott D or Scott M has not won the Halberg Award is beyond me. SVG simply fantastic!

I've been watching The Giz in the Aussie Supercars pretty much since he entered the motorsport, and it was plain as day he was a natural, with all the hallmarks of a champion to be.
His winning at this new level in touring cars does not surprise me one bit.
Awesome stuff Giz.
Remember too, SVG normally races with the steering wheel on the right hand side.
Had to adapt to left side, on top of everything else.
It was written on the walls. SVG always gives his other drivers hope of victory before snatching it from their in cruel, wicked fashion. It’s just what the Giz does.

He's a complete driver - from Formula Ford, V8 Supercars, Bathurst 1000, 6 & 12 hours, GT Racing to Time attack. It's no surprise he did well.
The city and race looked beautiful. Would watch again if it came back to Chicago.

The guy was fast in practice, qualifying, and then the race.
He's no pushover.
Once qualifying ended and people took notice of how good he really was, his stock shot up. Entering the race he was tie with Martin Truex with the third highest chance to win at +1600, prior to qualifying he was +4000.

I can only imagine a nice chunk of Aussie/Kiwi drivers thinking of making move across to Nascar if they continue to open up more street racing circuits? I mean this is their bread an butter! Or maybe even a cross car comp between Nascar vs V8 Supercars 🙌
SVG is a beast. While on many level's it's astonishing that he just showed up and won a cup event, I think NASCAR fans need to get familiar with V8 Supercars. He's been throwing big, heavy, high horsepower V8's with sequential shifters around for a bit now. Is a Supercar just like a modern cup car? No, but they are similar in a lot of key ways. They also race on a lot of street circuits. Pushing a car like this around a street circuit is SVG's bread and butter. I'm not shocked at all he had this much pace, though winning the race is definitely shocking.
I'm a big SVG fan, I've never watched a full NASCAR race before, but I watched this entire race more than twice. I watched the onboard camera of Giz, I was impressed with Kyle Larson. SVG passed him and then Larson followed in behind passing everyone until he got to P4...I'll be watching more in the future, Larson is now the man I'm following on NASCAR!!
Larson and SVG are greats of their respective series running for the best teams in the series (Larson for Hendrick, SVG for Triple Eight). Nothing short of great can come out of that
