    Hi @Kevin Muldon, Thanks a lot for the great video regarding the Toshiba Protege. I totally agree with you regarding the spect of this laptop and its quite a pity that no one is talking about it. I definitely wanna buy it too, therefore the follow up to this video where you review the actual laptop would be very great. I just checked through all your videos and I think you ain't done it yet. Any plans making that follow up video? If not, do you mind giving me your thought regarding the features, practicality, improvement in performance with the use of 32gb ram as well as if it is necessary to get an eGPU for video editing?
    Thanks a lot for your response.

      Unfortunately, I did not buy it. You can see why at th-cam.com/video/q-_9nowE82A/w-d-xo.html
      I am curious myself as to how it performs. Moving forward, I would still like to buy a good mobile laptop that can do video editing on the move.

    Huge thanks for the video, this great of an insight does not come around often!
    I spent the some time on research after my Dell Vostro died - it was all plastic and the PCH chip just popped away because of the flexin. What I discovered was that not much beyond the XPS, Surface and MacBook Pro pop up during the search, and although these are all great, the specs are often just bad for the price. This got me thinking about how the marketing warps and hides the alternatives, resulting in average users having to choose from options too few and never satisfying. High five for exposing these back, great job!
    Because of the way my previous machine died suddenly, I am still concerned about the Toshiba build quality - does it flex much? Will keep on digging on the issue, cheers!

      Thanks for the kind words Paco.
      Yeah laptop companies will not be up front about the limitations of their products. Generally, if you want performance and don't want overheating problems, the laptop will be big and heavy.
      Problems arise when you try and cram powerful components into a small chassis.
      They aren't up front about this though. Such as Apple not telling people the CPU will throttle quickly etc.

      Exactly - they don't, while the matter stays crucial to the end user, paying the money heaps. Thanks again for helping the small ones out!

      @@KevinMuldoon I greatly appreciate it! I have a question, are you able to charge by usb c from any device that is powerful enough or do you need the specific thunderbolt 3 dock?

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just to note, I had a problem with the seller after ordering so I never actually received the laptop. I couldn't find it anywhere else at the time either.
      With regards to your question, it all comes down to the watts that are required to charge the laptop and how many watts you can deliver to it.
      So if a laptop requires 45 watts, you will need a thunderbolt 3 dock or power delivery adapter that supports delivering that.

    previous week I bought 9 of them for my company. The first had problems flickering with the screen. The second one is always asking for date and time. The third was ok... we did not open the others... we are sending them back. Very disappointed... probably they where stored over 4 years in a warehouse..

  • @eagleheartuk1
    @eagleheartuk1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    All great except. The screen is not on par with current touch screens in some rivals, as far as withstanding normal tablet use.. Can be cracked easily, very easily. otherwise a marvellous laptop. Top heavy when used as a laptop? Just use the kickstand behind. Lacking in the Z20t before it. Also was kind of sad buying a Japan brand Toshiba, to find it is made in china. No wonder about the screen and the fact that when bought, i was issued a replacement, because the T key in the keyboard did not work!

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  ปีที่แล้ว

      The kickstand balances ok on a desk, but not on your lap or bed etc. Most of the weight is on the screen so it's very easy to fall back in that situation.

      @@KevinMuldoon bought used and wow. 1 Week in and so far so good. The more I edit the more it shows slight imperfections, however, that's raw and huge files. There is always the proxy option for big projects.

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never set up a proxy/remote option for large files.
      It's something I'd like to set up. My current video takes up 300GB+ due to the number of files that need to be cached. I'd love to be able to set up a dedicated solution for handling big projects so I can edit from multiple places more easily.

      @KevinMuldoon  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't know what the requirements for cyber security are. It really depends on what you're trying to do as cyber security refers to many different things and many IT departments adopt different manufacturers and different operating systems.

    Toshiba laptops were always quite well regarded although I can't remember the last time I saw one: it's almost as if Apple are the only show in town for so many (let's not go down that road!) As for the lack of a dedicated GPU, I don't think that's necessarily a problem for video editing since most software tends to use CPU rather than GPU power for the most part. The exception to this being DaVinci Resolve.

    • @KevinMuldoon
      @KevinMuldoon  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      CPU is more important than the GPU, but the GPU helps with rendering. I've noticed with my current laptop that if I'm showing a few different clips at once or applying too many effects, it can slowdown.
      I'd buy a Macbook Pro second hand. I do think their laptops are well made. They're just ridiculously overpriced. Though the same could be said about some other laptop too.

    • @TheNorliss
      @TheNorliss 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KevinMuldoon Yeah it's mainly effects/colour grading that utilises the GPU. Rendering out/exporting is mostly a CPU task. Agree with you about Apple being overpriced.

    We have a an enterprise deployment of these. Most problematic hardware I have ever worked on.
    1.Flickering Screen. (grounding issues/poor motherboard voltage regulation design)
    2. Fan Failures. (EVERY single device we have 1000+ needs the fans replaced)
    3. Having to carry a paperclip inside my work badge to reset them constantly.
    4. Batteries die too quickly
    5. ***The audio stack is TRASH***Who needs 15 microphone adjustments etc for noise cancellation etc. We even have microphone feedback loops on these..
    audio. (Toshiba needs to understand make a one size fits all audio setting for the microphone and be done with it!!) NO ONE CARES about the multiple settings. NO ONE!
    We have issues with people needing these for virtual meetings etc. CONSTANT reliability issues with audio... CONSTANT!
    We got these to replace other Toshibas over HP/Lenovo in the middle of a pandemic. We have had to touch every single device multiple times! Not a pleasant experience. FAR FROM IT! :(
