I started collecting Pokémon this year with my son and it’s been so much fun. It’s a bonding experience and I’m teaching him how to take care of his cards. Love your content!!
I remember being a 7 year-old collecting the Pokémon sticker album that was just released here in my country, and playing with spare stickers as it was a TCG (something I never had seen until I was older). 25 years later here I am considering start a collection. Your videos have been really useful to me, specially to keep in mind the reason on all of this. Nostalgia, excitement, getting in touch with other Pokémon fans. I see that, although I love playing games, playing competitively is something out of my league rn. I guess I already know what I'd enjoy the most in collecting (basically Kanto, then Johto), and trying to learn how to play it as a game (with no intentions of winning local leagues)
Oh I used to have sticker albums too! Such great memories, I have to see if I can find them somewhere. And welcome to the hobby! (-: I like the way you approach the hobby. Remember, you can start small and get more competitive later if you enjoy it. Try the online TCG for practicing without spending any money at all on deck building. Happy collecting!
Really good video! I really like that you hammer so on enjoying the artwork of the cards also the non-illustration rare and so. Because behind every card is an illustrator somewhere out there doing their job/passion and it's just fantastic. Thanks for another good video! :D
Thank you for your kind words again! 😊 You are absolutely right, which is why I do treat my cards like little pieces of art. And some cards like the Tangela from Call of Legends or the Abra from Twilight Masquerade you mentioned in another comment are amazing examples for that.
I do like your advice about spending money. I'm middle aged (40) and am thinking about getting into Pokemon cards. I've collected comic books and love reading them. I've bought expensive ones and cheap ones yet the common between both is the stories. You are supposed to read them. This would be the same with trading cards. I'm usually into the things people aren't buying and are cheaper because it has the potential of value and even if prices don't increase you had fun with something cheaper. People chasing the money usually get tired.
The last statement really summarizes what I believe in, too. Chasing money isn't truly collecting but either gambling or a business at most. I also like your comic book comparison! I'm sure you will love collecting Pokemon cards, especially for the beautiful art and the stories many cards tell. Thanks for your input, Phillip! 😊
The trading part is the only reason I think to buy packs (however you decide to get those) because if we all just bought our individual cards...we wouldn't have naything to trade for/with!
You're very welcome! 😊 Depends on where you live, really. There are several I know of in the UK (e.g. London Card Show in November, Card Con in April), Germany has different ones as you saw in the video (Card Madness in Düsseldorf in December, Card Convention Hamburg, Berlin has a few,...) and many more regional/local ones. I will be covering some of them in future videos, so let me know if you want to know more about a specific one.
@@JuliusCollects Maybe some of the bigger ones in europe? Or one convention for every country? Your own experiences and tips for conventions (you already gave the important one of checking the price)? I am also interested in a video on conventions, I have never been to one and want to go but am a bit scared at the same time XD
As someone that never played the Pokemon TCG nor collected physical cards before but only played the games, I remember trading pokemon with link cable on my gameboy color! I now fell in love with card collecting, but I have a problem, I try to convince myself that I only care about the art on the cards and that's what I really enjoy about my collection but there are some cards that I love but are out of my budget at the moment, such cards are available in other languages at a cheaper price like simplified Chinese, but for some reason I'm hesitant on buying them due to the huge price difference and it makes me feel that I might not be buying the real thing when I know they are also real cards, any advise on how can I surpass this insecurity?
Welcome to the TCG then! (-: Oh, I traded a lot with my friends using the dreaded link cables in Gen 1...good times! As to you concerns: 1. Collect what *feels* right. Check out my "how to start collecting Pokemon" video, if you haven't done so in which I go into that in more detail. If languages other than English feel wrong...don't buy them! 2. You can save A LOT of money by purchasing cards that are not mint/near mint! I made a video on "how to save money on Pokemon cards", so that might help! Get a lightly played version of the card which won't break the bank. Some of my Skyridge cards are like that and as long as the front is decent I have never even noticed the difference. 3. I have a non-English Latias & Latios GX that I got for 100$, whereas the English version is 700$+ ungraded. I display that one at home and people comment on the artwork all the time. Not once has anyone ever said anything like "uhh...the Italian/French/Japanese makes it look super cheap". 😉 I hope this helps! I think I'm gonna make short/video to address your concern. Happy collecting!
Hey!
😊 In meinem Video "how to save money on Pokemon cards" findest du noch weitere Empfehlungen! Ansonsten gibt es noch ein paar weitere Online Shops wie Games-Island, Pokeviert, PokeCorner, etc. Links findest du zum Teil in der Video-Beschreibung. Hoffe das hilft! --> English: In Germany, I mainly buy from Cardmarket & eBay, and some stuff from my LGS. My recommendation is actually always Cardmarket for sealed products. 😊 In my video "how to save money on Pokemon cards" you can find even more recommendations! You're very welcome! Reminds me to make a video on the best places to buy cards...🤔 Und nö, gar kein Problem 😄 Deutsch, Englisch, Spanisch, Französisch, Schwedisch, such dir was aus. (-:

@@JuliusCollects Yeah, RN I'm just watching videos and learning to see what I'd want to buy.

That's absolutely true and opening packs is also super fun. 😁
Just don't fall for the "chasing" trap.
