One of these three motorcycles is commemorative, the other retrospective, and the third, uniquely orthodox relative to the company’s ethos. Probably not hard to ascertain which bike is being referenced. They seem equally comparable yet disparate in the same moment.

Been riding a Griso for 19k miles now and couldn't be happier. Mechanically perfect, easy to do the routine maintenance, and it stands out in a crowd. And here's a spoiler for you: It won the points competition after all the votes were tallied from the three reviewers.
Guzzi is easily the coolest bike here despite the fact is the oldest one!!! I cant wait to see a newer model of this bike. Guzzi for life!!!

The Griso needs an update but everyone who rides one really seem to be taken by it. It sounds great [far better than the other two], and like the guys said, it oozes character.
I forgot to say there's not many cafe racers with the retro looks of the new CB1100RS that satisfy solo riding as well as being so comfortable for a pillion, I'd love these boys to get their hands on the new RS model and feedback what an awesome bit of kit Honda has developed!
Tested the BMW R nine T and found it fun but riding with a pillion effected the balance of the bike and it wasn't easy to relax, tested the new CB1100RS loved it and even when pushing hard with a pillion it inspires confidence feeling solid and planted, I'm now the proud owner of a black CB1100RS, loving it, I'm gaining quite a fan club at bike meets!

I'm a GUZZI RIDER, all the way. The Griso is a real motorcycle IMHO. No fueling maps, TRACTION control or wheelie control. Nice ABS easy to maintain. GRISO ALL THE WAY. Great vid guys.

A marginal one from the factory perhaps but easily fixed with a Beetle map.

***** True but the Griso is old too. The better argument is that it's arguably a different class of bike.
Thus the problem for Moto Guzzi. Almost without fail Moto Guzzi owners love their bikes but have a bit of a hard time quantifying just exactly what they love about them. I know what i love. The handling. No Moto Guzzi can really be called bad handling. Besides that i love their engines. I don't need to be on the fastest bike but i like the way the power comes on and that and the handling are a big part of it. I like the look of the V Twin so much more than the BMW Boxer engine. The simplicity and ease of maintainance are big attractions for me as is air cooling. I love that the trans slides out the back of the engine. The running gear layout is similar to RWD cars. Especially classic American cars.

I'd honestly be super happy with any of those bikes. Surprisingly, the CB is the best looker, imo.

Let the old guy have a comment. I grew riding the Universal Japanese Bikes (UJM) of the 80's. Honda went truly retro, and, for me, that's not a bad thing. My first bike was an 85 Honda Nighthawk S (Spencer, Freddie Spencer). It was a comfortable sport bike that would be considered a Standard today. It was oil cooled, no tech, a 12.3 1/4 bike, self adjusting valves, had a center stand, and could do it all. That was the UJM bike theme.
Today, bikes are updating and out tech-ing each other. The world evolves, and that's cool. But, the UJM was a turn the key and go. All the manufacturers were making similar bikes: Easy to ride, easy to wrench on, and a lot riding.
In this Shootout, I like the CB1100. It is truly a UJM and takes you back in time. Like Burns said, everything was in balance on it.
The Griso and BMW by virtue of their shaft drive alone.👍👍

I bought the 9T, love the bike. It works for me, the Honda sure is sweet however and the Griso is AOK too.
The CB is more rideable , especially past the BMW and Guzzi in the repair shops all the time .
I don't have that much spare time, need to choose between riding or working on a bike...I'll take the Honda.

Ask me how i know....a Honda rider for 65 years starting just after the WW2 and now many Hondas later, on a Gold wing, their best Honda model by far
@@TOURMANBOB I bet you took a lot of grief for riding a Japanese bike right after WWII. Of course there were none right after so you must mean 20 years after. Nobody disputes Honda building reliable bikes but as an exclusively Honda only owner all those years it seems like guess work to try and assess the reliability of other brands. Mine is a Moto Guzzi. Issues so far : zero.
@@gregorytimmons4777 No that sort of stupidity is only practiced by the last two generations of know-it-alls and by an element of the Harley crowd. In the 50;s and 60's, I simply stuck with what I know would work and after years of buying all sorts of other European and other Slav country bikes, there simply was no comparison in those days. I like to RIDE; it's in my blood, and the last thing I want to worry about is being stuck a thousand miles away in Upper Rubber Boot, USA, and having to deal with mechanical problems. German engineering always was great; during WW2, the quality of their weaponry far exceeded the need for war weapons. Same with auto and plane engineering.
Today, everything has changed, but I'll stick with my GL1800...easily the most reliable bike I have ever owned

I have a 2013 CB1100, owned for the last 8 years. I can tell you its a great bike. All 3 of these bikes are cool looking bikes.

Used to have a Griso, one of my fave all time bikes. Only reason I had to let it go, was the pegs were too high for my bad hips, and also it had next to nothing for cruising range.
My option would of been the Honda CB1100RS, better looks and a bit more sportier than the EX, as for performance and more horsepower a classic bike is NOT your choice if that is your intention if you want to look for it, there are other models for it that would do the job very nicely, classic heritage bikes are not meant for high performance speeds. For a cool relaxed sport-touring ride any classic heritage motorcycle will give you the awesomeness of the old coolness. Ride safe and enjoy the road mates, cheers.

Wow, I watched this because I wanted to hear views one the Honda CB1100, but the moment I saw the BMW I changed me mind.
At this point, they have not yet ridden the bikes...

Well I was hoping that they talked a bit about how it feels after 3 or 4 hours in the saddle.
I guess none of these is a cruiser or touring bike, so maybe they thought it was not important.
BMW for the looks and Honda for the list of positive points they came out with.
Awesome and informative review, at the beginning of all your reviews however you guys should list the riding gear each editor is wearing for the shoot. That would be nice. I'll take the R nine T with the awesome gold - ish forks, no need to change that what so ever!
Guzzi has the same power 110cv...on the very tight turn may be less agile (many prefer that way to turn) but when is time to get serious on fast and medium bends and in braking it's stable...very stable. In addition it's more comfortable almost like the cb.

Ah, this shoot-out is right up my ally, I love all 3 of these bikes and have considered each of them for my next bike at one point or another. I'm not sure which one I like more, the CB or the R-Nine-T.
Though I think if you pull the CB1100 up the bonnie has to come out too...and the V7 wouldn't be too bad either, but that doesn't mesh well, so yea, definitely not the best comparison, but definitely awesome bikes.
What's with the incessant, monotonous soundtrack on this video? It's distracting, annoying, and intrusive without adding anything to the video. Must be the official motorcycle review soundtrack, because it seems like it's on so many videos.

Hello guys. I own a 2014 Honda CB1100DLX, and it is just littler too high for me, I just bought a 2013 seat from a cb1100 which is a little lower than the 2014 DLX seat, but still kind of high for me, I am planning to lower the bike one inch in the front forks, by loosen the triple tree and sliding it down. What effect would I get on the suspension, would the bike still handle the same as before?...Thank you very much and happy trail my friends...EZ.

Honda all the way and they should have included the Triumph Bonneville. Nevertheless, the Honda all the way. It's more close to the original and it's cheaper.
What's retro about the Griso? If I was going to put a Guzzi in the lineup I would've put in one of the V7 models.

Honda does everything good. Plus it’s dependable and serviceable about anywhere. Parts through Honda are always available. I’m a Honda fan. I’ve learned over the years to trust in Honda !

Yeah the Beemer is nice for 15 grand. The Guzz is expensive as well. The Honda is not meant to sport ride. I can get a used CB1000R for 6700 bucks and SPANK those Euro heavy beasts! Get on the CB1100 which I rode twice and loved it for its do it all relaxed manner! - Neil, Boston

The Honda for me ....... but don't take their word for granted , go and ride test the bike , at the end it is you who is gonna pay for it , not them .
The Honda is too hum drum and characterless, the Beemer is interesting but the forks just look wrong in gold while the Griso [although could do with an update] has the most character and easily sounds the best. I personally would take the Griso.
Not at all, I've had mine for some years now, rumbling along with no hicckups.
What are your thoughts on the Bonneville being in this class. I felt that is was missing in this shoot out.
It's under-powered compared to these three:
Bonneville: 67 hp / 50 pf torque
Honda: 85 hp / 68 pf torque
Moto Guzzi: 95 hp / 73 pf torque
BMW: 110 hp / 88 pf torque
I know you said there's a big price difference between these naked street cruisers. I would have to say that the Honda CB1100 is looking pretty good at $10,399. It's not surprising that the BMW at $15,490 gets a better fit and finish rating, among other things, compared to the CB1100. BMW did have 5.091 more dollars to work with than Honda, and Moto Guzzi had 2,591. Buy the Honda! Oh, plus a good used dirt bike to screw around on!
Buy Honda because it is the cheapest seems to me very sad. You buy this kind of bikes also for aesthetics and passion.

67claudius 67claudius cheer up, I agree! If Honda had another $5,091 to work with, they probably could of built a little more aesthetics and passion into their bike. My real point was comparing a older $10,400 to a new $15,490 was a little unfair and lopsided.
This is a retro bike review! Complete with demerits for how long the oldest model has been on the market because, you know the best retro bike is always the newest retro bike. Now, all new with a totally revamped look to make it the oldest looking new bike on the market.
at 5:11 it looks like it's warped the radiator cover...
I'd consider trading my Monster1100 in on the BMW, but no adjustable forks, and the shaft put me off it. Does look great though!
The shaft drive is one of the reasons that I bought the BMW. My second choice would be the Griso. The forks are fine for street use and it wouldn't be difficult to change fork springs and fork oil. Or just use the internals of the S1000rr forks.
The Bonneville doesn't fit into this category. The Thruxton comes close though the Thrux brakes are anemic.

Not for nothing, Is hard to beat that Honda CB 1100 , they last for ever with little maintenance.
The Honda is by far the best bike of this bunch....Affordable ...easy to ride...the most reliable...and it is the only one that really looks retro out of the three...
Which is why I have a CB1100 in my garage 😉

Well I have the Griso, real character, loads of torque. Handles and stops great. Has real stand out presence.
Inline fours are just boring.

Well, great bikes all, but, I'm not rich. So, I looked and looked and finally found, for $5K, a '97 Honda Cbr1100xx Super Black bird with only 9600miles. Enough said.

I agree with some other comments about including the Bonneville; I know it's old, but it might have been fun to include. Regardless, great work! I think if I had to choose............. the RNineT takes the cake, but I'd just go with an R1200R for better long-term riding. :-]

the honda, smooth and cool, lots of rags and chain lube, won't age with time, the griso, cool and more vibration, lol its a twin! shaft drive, the beemah, classical boxer motor, baaaaaarruuuuup, shaft drive. all cool bikes, none of them are rockets or tourers, which one puts a smile on ur face is the one I would get

The BMW is grossly overpriced. I just looked online and could buy that Guzzi in NEW 2016 form from multiple dealerships for $8700. That being the case, the Honda isn't worth $1 more than a new $8700 Griso of ANY year...
Its 17k € here in Ireland which os even more Us$ when you convert, so its actually quite cheap
I like the styling of the Honda much more than the beemer, always thought the motor on BMW's were ugly. imo

What is with you people and black? That Beemer looks great the way it is. With those gold forks, the paint should be large metal flake candy root beer.

R Nine T easily has it for me, it looks best, it drives best, it has the most power, I'm not sure what else to say. Not entirely sure what his issue is with the gold forks?! Everyone I've spoken to really likes them. Hate the small back tyre on the Honda, the Guzzi doesn't look great and handles like a whale (saying that a bike reminds you of a muscle car isn't really a compliment).
