    Heroic Game Launcher is AWESOME!
    I haven't set it up on Linux yet, but on MacOS it works well.
    I attempted to use Bottles when it was first released, but I wasn't having much luck with it; I'll have to check it out again. Doing a Fresh Debian 12 Install this Morning.

    Bottles is AWESOME so I donate a small amount to them every month but I use/purchase Crossover because of all the work the CodeWeavers do to Wine. I pretty much exclusively use Steam so I don't really need to work around non-steam games.

    I prefer Heroic for game launcher/library. With Lutris as backup, though mainly just for emulator games. Bottles for me is mainly for running a game quickly with from file manager, and for managing wine prefixes. Also, Lutris worked great for me from Flatpak. Plus, some of the complicated wineprefixes for running visual novels just cannot be done on Bottles, unfortunately.

    5:00 hey michael how to use the gamescope mode in bottles, in there there are two resolution settings,full screen/windowed & integr . what to do in the resolutions section

    • @harrypotter1287
      @harrypotter1287 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      i used flatpak bottles. so i had to install gamescope in flatpak. with flatpak install gamescope. select the freedesktop one.
      if you used native bottles. install the native one.
      Just think of gamescope as selectively rendering and streaming from one part of one game to another window.
      So. the first resolution will be the game resolution. I tried running roadrash which runs at 640*480 so the first res was that.
      Second resolution is what you want it to be scaled to. i wanted it to be fullscreen @1920*1080 so thats what i chose.
      Integer scaling just duplicates the color as it is and scales it up. If it is off, it tries to estimate and scale the image.
      A general rule of thumb is to use integer scaling only in pixel art games.
      Though currently it seems broken for me. so keep it off.

    In theory this should allow you to run games that even modern Windows have trouble with. The main reason is because it allows you to fabricate your own Windows environment environment and manipulate variables. In Windows, you only have "compatibility mode" which doesn't work very well....with that said, I still can't get the retail DVD version of Bioshock (2007) to work. If anyone here knows how, let me know. There was a method for getting it to work in Windows 10/11 but it's not working anymore. Probably a Windows update broke it.

      "Most" games work on Linux yes. Performance is also mostly on par. Some run worse, some run even better.
      Just install Steam, enable Proton (SteamPlay) in the settings, or install a program like Bottles in the video.

      Gamepass is a bit tricky, since its not just an exe running, but it utilizes UWP (or whatever its called), which is not Wine compatible as it integrates with the Microsoft store and Account.
      Valve has been trying to get Microsoft Gamepass to Steam like EA Play, but Microsoft seems to be a bit against it.
      I don't think its because of Linux, since they are quite open minded in their gaming business, but rather being on Steam on Windows, rather than their own app.

      It would technically work for the real thing as well. New releases tend to break sometimes, but it is often being fixed within a couple of months.

    Bottles and WINE could be more aggressive with their marketing and trying to get even more software supported for Linux

    • @MichaelNROH
      @MichaelNROH  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don't really think that's in their interest. Wine is just a compatibility tool that comes as a convinence, rather than something reliable.
      If they were doing marketing for it, then they would put themselves out as a target if core applications break after an update

      Anticheat are pretty invasive by design, so makes sense that they are harder to get working as they can't hook into a real Windows OS.

    Linux is for lowend gamer, if you want quality like all new Features from nvidia, only windows is the way. Nvidia, HDR, VRR, RTX HDR, DLSS Rayreconstruction, Framegeneratin, GPU undervolting or OC, all together you dont get it at once in linux. Even in 2030 you wont get. The communtity is big on linux but they dont put the efford together. Also to much distros, then not equal kernel version, moddified kernels.... Wayland, x11 or much more, whats the right to choose. Noway, stay away as a gamer from linux if you want quality gaming. And think about, over 80% own nvidia cards! If nvidia dont make the step to linux, linux will never be No. 1 for gaming / desktop. Truth prove: over 20 years they only hit 4% of users, mostly thanks to VALVE! I know truth hurts. But dont fool yourself, accept it. Time comes for Linux gaming, but this i say for now over 25 years...
