  • I don't game much, but when I do, here are 5 things that I've found incredibly useful to optimise Linux Mint for casual gaming. There are better distros out there for gaming, and for dedicated gamers - nothing will beat Windows, but if you like a bit of gaming on the side of your normal use - these tips may come in handy.

    I'll add 2 more tips for laptop users. In Lutris you can limit the amount of CPU cores per game. With many older and indy games limiting the core count can help with less heat, power usage, and fan noise. As for a kernel, I've had good luck with the XanMod kernel.

    Proton QT paired with Flatseal is really helpful. Flatseal allows you to provide the permissions needed for Proton QT to install updates properly. Just enable permissions for it and you should be good to go. One of the best tips I got from Chris Titus tech channel.

      There is also another linux kernel that is really good for gaming in mint. Every time I try to post its name, the YT blocks my comment. It sounds like a red viney piece of candy but is spelled like an adult drink. I have been using it for some time, and it is the debian based distos version of arches zen.

    Still trying to get my games running under Linux. But I only had Steam installed. So I installed Lutris, I installed the latest kernel, but I'm having trouble with Lutris finding the games. I have a 1 TB nvm2 card that has the game library separate from the install location. So maybe it could help if you went through the process of connecting Lutris and Steam as if you had just installed both. I have over 1T of games installed and really do not want to add them into Lutris one at a time.

    I tried Lutris to get the stuttering out of Elden Ring, and I can say that it worked true wonders for me to enable Feral GameMode.
    Running on Linux Mint Cinnamon / Ryzan 5 3600 / RX 6600 I now get a reliable 1080 / 60 at max. settings minus RT. Thanks mate

    Which distro would you recommend between Linux mint and Arch Linux that offer best performance and consumption for gaming or some other distro you think it's better than those two i said

    • @MyouKyuubi
      @MyouKyuubi หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Uuh, well Arch is just supremely versatile, but only if you know how to operate a naked linux system, because that's basically what arch is, it's a "build your own OS" type of distro... So you have to manually install everything you need, and that means knowing the terminal commands like the back of your hand. The only help you get for this process is an online handbook written to be read by highly tech-savvy people, so if you're an average user, most of that handbook is gonna be pure gibberish to you.
      But if you ARE that tech-savvy, then Arch is basically the only distro anyone can recommend to you, as you just get supreme customizability... But if you aren't super tech-savvy, then Linux Mint is probably your best choice.
      personally i'm going with Linux Mint Debian Edition 6 (LMDE 6), because i personally believe Debian is the future due to their conservative update philosophy and cycle, and i also want to minimize the amount of clutter and potential bloatware... Now that the Ubuntu version of mint is at risk of turning into another Michaelsoft Bimboes, because Ubuntu is now officially owned by an actual company.

      The point I'm trying to make here is bringing up the constant conversation of getting these games the nobody wants but everyone plays on Linux. These tweaks are fun and all but why bother when I have to use windows to use adobe and valorant anyways? And "just don't do xyz" isn't an answer. Everyone knows it's not an answer that's why they moan and whine so loud when valorant is brought up. How about we actually have conversations with these products and unify the Linux kernel? How about we stabilize the aspects of the open platform to allow these products to feel like their games aren't just used to try out a new cheat engine. How about you actually allow people to download the spyware regardless of if it's good enough or not. Because frankly they will do it anyways just on windows.
