  • Hello everyone, It's me Scrillix. Now don't get too worried, I am working on a ACTUAL Switch Axe guide, This is just a showing on what optimal Switch Axe gameplay CAN look like. I had someone tell me that they know how to combo, but don't necessarily know how to position or play so they don't get hit as much. I hope that this is a good example and tides you all over until my guide comes out!!
    If you have any more questions for me, check out my Discord!!!

    Great video, this is what Iceborne needs, not just another build video. There aren't enough videos of skilled players explaining what they do when fighting a monster and why they do it. Weapon skill and monster knowledge will always be more important than your build.

    I just picked up Monster Hunter world when it was on sale a few days ago, my very first monster hunter game, and decided to pick Switch Axe as my weapon, because of how versatile it appeared. That said, it was also quite challenging due to the complexity, however after watching a bunch of guide video's on how to play it, I found your video here, and seeing your gameplay really helped out a lot to understand how to properly use the weapon, what sort of combo's to go for, specific things I hadn't learned yet (like taking advantage of Fade morph, or wild morphing more often to then use sword mode instead of heavy slamming mindlessly lol).
    As well as how you used the Clutch claw to hook on and hop of to close the distance to the monster a few times in this, which I never thought about doing yet, but is so useful. Just a lot of nuance that I as a new player hadn't thought about and which wasn't shown in any guide video I had watched. This is the Perfect Watch and Learn video, so thank you for posting it!

    I picked up the switchaxe about a week ago.
    I was always reluctant to try this weapon. Always felt more comfortable with a shield weapon (lance,hbg). But for some reason the SA just works so damn well for many tough monsters.
    It also feels very "heavy metal" to me. Stab the monster in the freaking eye and start drilling its brains with explosions, is one the most brutal moves ive seen in a game in a while 😂
    Now i just need to practice, what you have shown in this video. Excellent explanation. I hope i can get at least half as good as you with this weapon.

    • @luftwafflessss
      @luftwafflessss 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Indeed, maining GS since starting until fatalis did create some habits, which is why is why I tend to only utilize one part of swaxe rather than the whole kit, which limits the potential of swaxe. Breaking the habit of sheathing when a monster disengages to a certain range and only resorting to zsd is definitely top priority.

    This is immensely helpful! MHW isn't my first game, but it is the first one I've put more than a few hours into. I was having a horrible time in high rank after the first high rank nergigante fight all the way up through xeno'jiiva. I've realized that I can't play switch axe like I did when I first, started anymore. Monsters are much more mobile and attack more often, and it was getting me killed over and over again and it was incredibly frustrating. This guide (and the one you posted a couple weeks ago) will hopefully mark the start of me figuring out this game and particularly one of the coolest weapons I've used in any game, the switch axe. Thanks so much for these, I hope you make more guides whenever you have the time, because I need all the help I can get😅
    Also what was the attack at 17:54? Was it like a fading transform attack? I know about the fade slash in axe form (and I should use it more than I do currently, which is 0) but you can do it in sword too? And even transform while doing it? Please correct me if I'm mistaken!

      Thank you man, your story definitely motivates me to continue to make my content. I’m actually in the middle of making a Proper switch axe guide and dissecting all its moves and uses per move and the value of when and where it can be used. Hard to get going cause of my real life job but I’m working on it as much as I can.
      The move you were asking about can be done from being in Sword mode and then pressing Morph WHILE HOLDING BACKWARDS. This will give you the move called “Downward Fade Slash” Pretty decent at re-positioning, but because of its big amount of lag, it is good used preemptively before your monster has committed to an option so you are able to roll away in axe mode afterwards.

    • @Scrillix
      @Scrillix  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That monster drooling animation is known as a "Clagger" It's a small 2-3 second window that Capcom introduced when iceborne came out. Their intention was that they wanted you to Wound a monster during this window. But 2-3 seconds is too short for most weapons. So clutching onto a monster during this animation actually RESETS the clagger timer. Making a 2-3 second window into more like a 5 second window. Using this window to wound is not as important anymore after the wound extension change they made in the final patch, but it is important in party play to get the clagger at the last second so your team mates get to maximize damage uptime.
      Switch axe is good at taking claggers for their team because they do not lose damage uptime that badly because they can clutch on and ZSD.

  • @KurwaUnited
    @KurwaUnited 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Could someone explain why you clutch claw on a monsters head just to let off even if you already near it? Saw it many times and just don't get it.

    • @Scrillix
      @Scrillix  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A good question:
      So in short, when they added Iceborne into the game, Capcom wanted you to utilize the new "tenderize" feature of the clutch claw. So to do this, the added a flinching animation on all monsters (Monster flinches away from you and starts to drool from the mouth) This specific Flinch animation was dubbed as a "Clagger" and the animation lasts for Roughly 2-3 seconds. Capcom wanted you to use THIS window to get the tenderize attack off; However, because some tenderize attacks take a long time to finish (HBG having an almost 4-6 second long attack) Clutching onto the monster will Not only reset the 2-3 second timer but also slightly extend it. Whilst in Single player hunting, This isn't AS important to do, but in 4 player hunts, you can have 3 people doing alot of damage for about 2.5 seconds, and the 4th hunter reset the timer so the other 3 can keep up the damage. Weapons that make good use of "Taking the clagger" are SnS (cause They can commit to taking it very quickly and get off fast) Supportive weapons like LBG and HH, and Dual Blade and Switch Axe are very good at taking the clagger as well, since DB has there built in CLutch attack so they barely lose out on damage, and SA can resort to ZSD, so there is barely any really lose in Damage while the other hunters do there work.
      Hope this long comment Helps explain things

      @@Scrillix Wow, thanks for the great and fast answer. Didn't knew about resetting a timer and now it makes so much sense to me. Have to look closer next time when watching a speed run, especially with more hunters. And I have to do it on my own. An alternative combo in short openings would be 1 heavy into 1 light for a 3 hit combo. great damage, uses little sword gauge and you can reposition with a Hope before the 1 light, or after it if need be.
