@@NamNguyen-vu2zj style and dps wise its hard to argue against that haha. im just not a big fan of players who slap on temporal/rocksteady with tool specialist 5 and power prolonger 3 to spam zsd. the swaxe offers so much more! with the correct flow you can really “dance” with the monster
You can be proud of yourself for just beating Fatalis! The flinch predicting really takes practice with certain monsters and somewhat understanding "how much damage will result in a flinch". Power Axe mode and part breaker REALLY help with that. All my clips are in axe mode and mostly in power axe mode! If you really want to learn it I'd recommend just picking a few of your favorite monsters and try to spectate their behavior as you focus different parts and at some point you'll be like " okay that next hit on that part could very well result in a flinch" and of course it doesn't work every time even for me lol
Watching you play swaxe is immensely satisfying. I never used it in world or 4U but i did main it in tri on the wii. But then i discovered IG and i never looked back... Now that's a weapon i have mastered. Everything else feels too grounded because i fell in love with the sky
Thank you! And it seems like you've found your calling. I already loved Switch Axe in tri but in World and especially Iceborne it got so many upgrades that I can't put it away again.
A friend sent me this asking at what level i am since i've been maining SA since Tri, and while we were watching it togheter i predicted to him all the moves that were to come in the flow clips. Awesome job at breaking down all the facets of MHWI SA and showcasing them directly with self-explanatory clips, like, huge kudos. Glad to see love for the weapon, and hope to see more in the upcoming Wilds
Pretty sure World will only reduce in player count once Wilds drops. And thank you, I really love that the game and the community in general is so active!
Currently in the "empower sword > ZSD until no sword > Axe mode till sword > ZSD until no empower/Sword > Axe till sword > Empower Sword > " loop and am just learning the weapon. But I have to say, this was beautiful to watch. Makes me really excited to try to learn all of the finer details of the weapon (I still struggle HARD with using fade slash to evade. lol)
Very nice! The weapon really has so many awesome details and learning things like the fade slashes, is super satisfying once you get the hang of them, but yeah they can be tricky lol in Wilds they will be a lot quicker though!
swaxe main here since 3 tri. Awesome video that highlights the aspects of the weapon! To me my Swaxe is a jack of all trades, being able to be safe mobile and long range attacker (axe mode) or close hard hitting 1000C butter knife at the cost of range and mobility. And being able to master both playstyles is what makes a good Swaxe player.
I actually stated learning this weapon a couple days ago, so only LVL 2 i'd say. I hope that by the time I finish Iceborne I can get to LVL 8, learning proper timings to do Slinger Bursts instead of just throwing them out there when I feel like i'm in danger. Great Video, loved every second of it.
That's insane, i was playing on level 3 for most of my gameplay and somehow didn't knew i can do those dodge-switches. This makes me want to play SA even more
I loved switch axe in old gen, though have been playing a lot of gs in world, just about to return to it and oh my god this is just making me all the more excited, these clips are absolutely legendary keep it up!
I played the game with Insect Glaive and only changed to switch axe at raging brachy, I love this weapon so much, I still have to learn how to evade with the hops and sword mode evasion is basically nonexistant xD I only use sword mode when I'm 100% confident I won't have to dodge anything that's how bad I'm at the hop version of dodging.
The video that made me pick up MHWI Swaxe again, but this time playing it thanks to watching, skill has improved by so much to the point I’m around lvl 7. Hoping to jump to lvl 8 and just practice maximising the flow with lvl 10 cause predicting flinches will come in time as we play and get used to monsters
I don't know why TH-cam showed me this so late, but God damn dude. You're a beast with this weapon. I'm playing mostly with my friend so predicting fliches can be a chalange there, however almost thousand hunts with Switch Axe didn't went to waste. It's on a completely different level compared to other weapons. It's just build different, just like Charge Blade. An inseanly high skill celling, but payoff is off the chart. Mastering it require a different mindset to begin with. It's a deadly dance, rather than spamming one move - speaking of you SnS amongst other weapons, I still love you tho. Keep dancing my Fellow Swagster and let the flinches be with you ❤ P. S. I absolutely adore how you're using ZSD instead of spamming it. It have much lower partbreak modifier and flinch potential than rest of the kit. It makes for a real performance, rather than braindead playstyle which everyone prefer. I had learned a lot just from watching this video alone, but I'm still far from your level of precision 😅
after many. many. MANY. iterations and years of monster hunter, even to this day, predicting flinches is definitely one of the more nuanced things that most people wont utilize. shits hard to learn. cant wait for wilds, and cant wait to see if we got to keep any potential silkbind techniques from risebreak for it. either way, switch axe and longsword shall yet again, be my mains.
As a switchaxer since Tri I'm a lvl8. Its not my main but I also feel like my actual main (lance) has made it so that I don't really pay attention or look forward that much to flinches LOL. The only weapon I can consistently get the "oh a flinch is gonna happen" is probably GS and thats probably more in part due to its chunky numbers.
I'm definitely lv2 but can use some bits from other lvs. I wished I discovered your channel earlier as habits are very hard to change and I'm getting a bit burnt out of MH so I will probably take a break soon but come break after Wilds is released
Your swagaxe play is so enjoyable to watch. By the time I was at thru with Iceborne I was a level 7, by passing level 8, with some level 9/10 sprinkled in. I never did bother learning how to properly use slinger bursts though, lol
Thank you so much! That is an impressive level you got there! The slinger bursts aren't mandatory of course, just like some other levels, but they are hella fun and can make you even more aggressive against many monsters! But as long as you're having fun you are doing everything right.
Great video! When I finished iceborne on ps4 I was still level 9... getting a more consistent feel for flinches is something I can hope to continue when Wilds releases (I havent touched Rise since beating Sunbreak expansion on release)
Predictable flinches lvl9 is the most satisfying thing about the swaxe for me. Do you know if generally the powered up axe stuns or breaks more consistently? I know it breaks better, but for flinching the monster, does it flinch them better in powered axe mode or about the same as axe mode
It is really amazing and yes, power axe mode increases part break damage and staggers/ flinches monsters more often. So predicting the flinches is for sure the easiest in power axe mode.
@@tf1356 You can only apply stun damage with Switch Axe if you have an exhaust phial (so sword mode only) or you use the mantle that gives every attack a stunn effect. But yes, as the stun and exhaust damage builds up on the monster it causes even more flinches. So combining power axe mode with stun damage is only possible with the mantle.
Started playing again last week for the first time since 2018. I used the kinsect, longsword and hammer mostly back then. But now I’ve dropped the longsword and kinsect for dual blades, switch axe and lance. I used dual blades almost all of low rank and started using the switch axe and lance in high rank. I’m probably just below level 2 for switch axe lol but holy shit do I feel powerful as fuck when I jam the sword in a monsters skull and blow up their head. Haven’t used it the past 2-3 days though because I’ve started to understand the flow of lances and guarding so many attacks. And lance has now become my current obsession lol. I’ve got the max rank nergigante lance but when I have enough azure rathalos parts I’ll upgrade my switch axe and start using that again.
Very interesting journey you got there with your mains. All weapons are amazing in this game and I can understand your obsession with lance lol I'm excited to see what Wilds brings to the table next year!
level 2 of "optimised chains" has much more depth than you think, it should come right before "maximising flow" - ironically, many of your chains are not optimal a lot of the rankings here are weird
Well, many levels are pretty much ongoing throughout learning to play the weapon, optimizing your chains is always situational and I could have made one level with highest DPS chains around level 3 or so but just like the Switch Axe itself I wanted the ranking for many people to feel fluent and not static, I think that makes it more intersting. I think my rankings are fine for playing Switch Axe as interestingly as possible and still being "more skillfull" throughout the progression of each level.
I like to zsd spam on some monsters but i just really like all the combos on switchaxe and tend to mix and match the playstyles depending on what the monster is doing,if its being fast and agressive ill probably mostly use zsd spam, if i can get the monster too hold still im gonna use sword combos for as long as i can and ending it with a zsd for high damage
Awesome! The slinger brusts can really help increasing flow even further! Predicting flinches is easiest with power axe mode and part breaker but it doesn't work everytime anyway lol
Great video, Im easily at lv 1 lol, ive only messed around with SA a couple of times, which is unfortunate since SA is such a cool weapon, this video def inspires me to practice with it more, this always happens when i see high end players with weps i dont use, which always leaves me in awe and jealous cause i wanna look that cool with the weapon but reality hits me and i know for fact ill never be that cool with them lol also i need to know the music you use, it such a banger
I bet you're better than you think already and I'm glad my video inspired you to give it a try! Sticking to one weapon for some time can be difficult for some but it really pays off, especially with a weapon like Switch Axe where you actually see progress all the time no matter how small your steps are. The song is the Gaismagorm theme from Sunbreak.
Practice mainly, but the more you pay attention to what is happening and what options you have available the easier it gets. You can have 1000h of playtime and 3000 hunts with one weapon but if you don't actually pay attention or try to push your builds and own performance you won't get much further. Trying new things plays a huge part in that and setting own goals or knowing "okay I could improve here or there" makes sure you will always make progress. And of course the most important thing that you have fun doing so!
very nice! I personally really love the slinger bursts, especially with thorn pods or piercing pods since they can stop a monster dead in its track, but very impressive nontheless!
I watched this in hopes of finally deciding to give switch axe a second chance. Sadly, it didn't do it for me. Seems like I won't be playing SA any time soon. We'll see in wilds if my impresion of the wepon changes. Cool video though. 👍
Evade window for sure. I can't live without it. Evade extender may help to get out of harms way of some big attacks but evade window will alwqys be very helpful and help you, keeping your aggression going on the monster.
@@kaen4299 honestly not at all... evade window is (in my personal opinion) much better since I never really have a problem to reach the monster or get away from it. With evade window I can stay close to it throughout the entire engaagement ideally
Many people don't use the fading slashes or bother to learn them, but I think they are very important in building a proper flow since they also replenish sword gauge when fading to axe mode... and you can evade attacks with them or just reposition.
@@BloodyWyverian I think I’ll try maining switchaxe in wilds, but I’ve been a Glaive main since Mh4u, do you think these two weapons compliment each other?
@@mattiuinternational276 In Iceborne Switch Axe is also a powerful mounting weapon with a lot of different sliding attacks and they are both classified as technical weapons but I still think they are very different from one another. I think they are both equal in micromanaging gauges and so on but moveset and gameplay wise they are very varied. But who knows what Wilds brings to the table.
Very nice! We may get to see slinger bursts again in Wilds so practicing those may even be advantageous for the next title lol But it took me a long time to use them as well.
A generous level 8 for me. I don't often use Slinger Bursts but i like them when i have slinger ammo. also, predicting flinches is insane. how? how do you count damage that accurately? how do you definitively hit the right part enough to be sure your next hit will flinch? It's not like you do the EXACT same string of combos every fight, and crit chance (and therefore overall crit damage) is uncertain at times. do you just not play the game until it is?
At this point it is kind of a "feeling", like.. yeah I hit that tail so many times it HAS to come off now... doesn't work always though... partbreaker and power axe mode really help here since it deals so much part damage. and well of course practice with each monsters also factors in...
Given the possible state that IG might be in come Wilds I have been trying to learn a second weapon. I thought SA might be good, and I thought I was learning it.....but I am just a monkey waving a stick around lol. I sometimes reach level 1 and feel proud lmao

It's pretty fun and once you know how to dodge you'll fall in love, here's a tip you may not know: evading is easier in axe mode, in sword mode your dodges are changed for really small hops
I’m a greatsword user but I wanna do some flashy shit, since i consider longswords the enemy, I’ve been practicing with switch axe, and I didn’t think some of the things you did were even possible
@@VileHusk longsword IS the enemy lol Nice to see that you're giving Switch Axe a shot. It has a lot of moves many don't know about or haven't seen before because most SA users just spam the discharge.
I can solo alatreon and all the temepered elder dragons. I even soloed the arch tempered nemielle with the switch axe. I haven’t soloed arch tempered valkana or fatalis with the switch axe yet
It depends on the phial type of the weapon you are using, power phial has the orange glow to them, exhaust phial a light blue color and poison phial has a purple coloration for example.
I wouldn’t call these levels of mastery, rather aspects of mastery. Also some of them aren’t specific to the weapon per se, but general game sense. Having said all that, I’m stuck in level 2 :(
@@BloodyWyverian I have to say that I have about 260 hours in MHW:I and I haven't played any other MH title so far and it took me more than half of those 260 hours to figure out, that Switch Axe will most likely be my main weapon. I started multiple characters, because everytime, I wanted to try a new weapon, I wanted to do all quests and start grinding the weapons all over again to really learn it.
You could ZSD while using the clutch claw?!
Anyway, I think I'm at 3 in IB, 5 in Sunbreak.
I'm at stage 10, but I don't do 8 or 9 as I don't see the value in them.
very nice! I personally really love the slinger bursts, especially with thorn pods or piercing pods since they can stop a monster dead in its track, but very impressive nontheless!
@@BloodyWyverian I grinded out a full armor set and 2 weapons from Fatalis using my alatreon swaxe. I still use that thing to this day for good times.
you cooked here man 🔥🔥
Okay. How many flinches did you miss now
Hmmm... one or two maybe
you forgot "Cart Mastery" , clearly im a cut above you....*cough
in MH World/Iceborne i was probably a 7, in Rise/Sunbreak im still a 7, but ive also got a bit of that 10 in there, skipping the 8 and 9
I watched this in hopes of finally deciding to give switch axe a second chance. Sadly, it didn't do it for me. Seems like I won't be playing SA any time soon. We'll see in wilds if my impresion of the wepon changes. Cool video though. 👍
Thank you! Totally fine of course if you don't feel like trying Swaxe, what weapons are more your style?
@@BloodyWyverian I paly every other melee weapon except for SA and SnS.
I'm level 4 but haven't mastered ZSD yet because I mainly spam it :D
Hey. What is the better skill for SwitchAxe. Evade Extender or Evade Window?
Evade window for sure. I can't live without it. Evade extender may help to get out of harms way of some big attacks but evade window will alwqys be very helpful and help you, keeping your aggression going on the monster.
@@BloodyWyverian So do you not use Evade Extender at all or just one level?
@@kaen4299 honestly not at all... evade window is (in my personal opinion) much better since I never really have a problem to reach the monster or get away from it. With evade window I can stay close to it throughout the entire engaagement ideally
Didn’t know fading was a thing, I’m not even 2 bro
But who knows what Wilds brings to the table.
level 8 roughly. slinger is still giving me grief every now and again
Very nice! We may get to see slinger bursts again in Wilds so practicing those may even be advantageous for the next title lol
But it took me a long time to use them as well.
@@BloodyWyverian ah yeah, i guess i've had moments like that but it's definitely not consistent, nor is it reliable.
how many GB of recording to make this vid ? x)
hmmmmm..... a few.... lmao
Given the possible state that IG might be in come Wilds I have been trying to learn a second weapon. I thought SA might be good, and I thought I was learning it.....but I am just a monkey waving a stick around lol. I sometimes reach level 1 and feel proud lmao
@@thedarkwolf25 you'll get there don't worry lol
It'd be the same for me if I was trying insect glaive. A monkey trying to hit the helping insect with a stick lol
My baby is GS, but damn if Switch Axe doesnt look appealing
You won't regret giving it a try!
@@VileHusk longsword IS the enemy lol
Nice to see that you're giving Switch Axe a shot. It has a lot of moves many don't know about or haven't seen before because most SA users just spam the discharge.
@@BloodyWyverian I’m even more degenerate than that, I spam ⭕️ in axe mode then end it with triangle😂
About level 5ish
I can at least feel good now when my wife says I’m a solid 4/10
I can solo alatreon and all the temepered elder dragons. I even soloed the arch tempered nemielle with the switch axe. I haven’t soloed arch tempered valkana or fatalis with the switch axe yet
Very nice, that really takes some skill to pull off!
You'll get the last two down as well for sure!
Watching this makes me feel like the swaxe is not for me
The only one I can't do is predict flinches.
Understandable. Doesn't work every single time but comes naturally as you play a weapon for too long
Can you beat Iceborne using only Axe mode of SA? 🤔
Is there a mod you use to change the Amped Charge color?
It depends on the phial type of the weapon you are using, power phial has the orange glow to them, exhaust phial a light blue color and poison phial has a purple coloration for example.
I-...I cant.....Is it possible to learn this type of power?
My guides might help lol
I wouldn’t call these levels of mastery, rather aspects of mastery.
Also some of them aren’t specific to the weapon per se, but general game sense.
Having said all that, I’m stuck in level 2 :(
Unga bunga ZSD go brrrrrrr
I am currently at level 3 and trying to get better at movement and positioning.
very nice, that's already really promising!
I enjoyed SnS and IG as well, but I felt like I missed something which I found with the Swaxe.
But like I said, my positioning is garbage and I get hit unnecessarily often. I hunted like 5 or 6 Diablos (in High Rank with High Rank gear) today without carting once, at good sign, I hope.
@@angriboi that is some great progress, Diablos is a tough monster! I am actually working on a guide on positioning referencing mostly Switch Axe, if you're interested I hope to finish it this week!
@@BloodyWyverian Exactly what I need right now! Btw, your playstyle is very impressive.
I believe I'm level 3 entering level 4
That is really good! The most fun part about Switch Axe for me is i-framing attacks and staying as aggressive as possible! So equip some evade window, get some practice and you flow like water in no time in between attacks!
Bro how do you even get to level 9?!
Power Axe and Partbreaker really help and then it is practicing with each monster. Doesn't work everytime though but feels so good!
@@BloodyWyverian I was wondering if you're keeping track of how many hits you've landed on each body part to predict when a flinch will happen
@@acer8123 basically yes. And after hunting the same monster a couple of times you just sort of get a feel for it as well. I can very roughly determine how much part damage I've dealt and can be bold enough to clash with the monster and come out on top. Though again, this doesn't work all the time of course!
How did you combo from level 7? From axe B then what?
You mean at 4:06? That is Y on Xbox controller. 3x B (Wildswing) and then you can do the heavy slam with Y.
I would say I am at around Level 7 which is good enough for me
Certainly very good indeed! As long as you're fine with that that's all that matters.
6:50, no earplugs 1 😢
What lvl I am? I dunno I just spam B
Lv 11 complete i-frame mastery
That's a good one, I still have some ideas for more levels... maybe lvl 11 to 15 soon..
9.5
Damn, that's really good!
@@BloodyWyverian Switch Axe is my third favorite weapon in world so I had plenty of training
Level3and 6
Switchaxe very complex... my hunt time is too long
You'll get better and better the more you play! Don't worry.
I think I peaked at 5
1:39 how to do that?
Fully charge in sword mode and land the thrust. You can find it in any Switch Axe tutorial videos
Whats the song ?
That is the Gaismagorm Theme from Monster Hunter Sunbreak
@@BloodyWyverian thanks 👍
What song is this?
That is the Gaismagorm Theme from MHR Sunbreak: th-cam.com/video/XgijTllvcNw/w-d-xo.html
Tried SA world back then after i love SA in frontier and sunbreak, didnt like it. SA hop is basically the deal breaker, i hate lance and gunlance for the same reason. It also became weak if you dont utilize zsd that much, finally I just slap mhf mod, it became grounded while not feeling weak without zsd spam and very mobile too,
@@manikaditha6308 fair enough, I also used a mod for some time and I see your points. I'm pretty sure you'll like SA in Wilds then. It still has the sidehop but many other tools that make it more accessible than World.
2k hour in and im still at lv 8 at best
Bro sorry to say, this is just surface level of Switch Axe. A lot of missing in-depth techniques here. The best 10 LEVELS of Switch Axe is still from japanese MH content creator, DC Shiori. 😅
I appreciate the feedback!
And I know which video you talk about. I think these two videos are vastly different. I don't really try to have a guide on swaxe in this video unlike Shiori. And I personally wouldn't call things like the slinger bursts and prediciting flinches surface level.
But his video is really well made and I have more actual guides for proper in-depth coverage of Switch Axe.
Im only a lvl 6 so far :(
That is very good already, keep it up! The rest will come by itself soon. ^^
I think I'm at level -1
Well, that's a start but I bet you're better than you give yourself credit for!
@@BloodyWyverian Thank you! I'm not really good at playing Swax but it is my main before I betrayed it and used a charge blade instead in rise but now I just got world and currently using IG in low rank but I'll make sure to revisit Swax and try to master it!
@@BloodyWyverian Also this video is super amazing and inspiring!

I am proud to say that after 4 years of Iceborne, I am finally Level 8.
And yet I still get my shit kicked in by Rajang...
That is very impressive!
Honestly.. I hate regular Rajang, furious is a much better fight IMO
