  • In this video, I attempt to Dissect the Arch-Tempered Velkhana Match Up for the Switch-Axe. This is not set in stone and should serve as a mere guideline that you can use as a basis for your own play. It is never set in stone. I only hope to help those who ask for it.
    Please leave a like or comment if you enjoyed the video, its my first of many to come now that I am back. And if you feel like it, consider subscribing. Happy hunting!!

    This is great. Most SA guides are pretty useless at explaining the combat intricacies of this weapon. Please do more, especially the threat level 3 monsters!!! For the record SA is probably the most difficult weapon I’ve learned (learning)

      @@hym9439 thanks man, it’s comments like these that inspire me to continue making videos. I haven’t been active as much as I’d have liked to have been. A combination of burnout, work and other games have taken the fore front. That and I’m also waiting on Monster Hunter Wilds next year.
      I’ll look into doing more Tier3 (level3 same thing) monsters, as that is what I think SA is superb at dealing with!

      @@hym9439 I do appreciate your kind words very much man! It really means a lot.
      Too be fair, what I did was especially scandalous at the time. And while I did find it in me to move on, the friends I’ve lost along the way and no longer speak to me more than outweighs anything good that can come from this channel going forward.

    Despite being a Long Sword player and rarely touching the switch axe except to mess around, I honestly found this video incredibly interesting. Almost makes me want to take off my Long Sword and challenge myself instead of hitting two buttons, becoming invincible and gaining a damage buff all at once.

    Switch axe seems to be the most matchup dependent weapon, what do you think is it's best amd worst match ups for the end game (omitting fatalis)?

    • @Scrillix
      @Scrillix  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hmmm that’s a good question… I personally find that Switch Axe struggles a lot against most T2 monsters in general, but has a fine time against a lot of the T3 monsters and Elder dragons. I think REGULAR Velkhana is good, Ruiner Nergi is amazing, Teostra is fine, Alatreon is an AMAZING Match up for Switch Axe etc.
      Although if you’re playing in a party, you can get away with playing Switch Axe into any monster, as the other weapons will help contribute to Flinches and topples thus giving you a higher number of damage openings

      @@ScrillixCould you consider making a comprehensive swaxe guide? I've not found a satisfactory one yet that actually discusses the weapon in its entirety (I.e fastest moves, when to ideally use which moves etc) and explains things like phials, zsd matchups etc. Thank you for the vid

      @@ungobungo7986 I certainly could, however I do ask for for patience since I do normally work 40-50 hours a week, and have other videos I might be working on as well.
      I do have a ZSD matchup video on my channel explaining what monsters ZSD’s are very strong against. Those Matchups are mostly relevant BEFORE Fatalis armour. Since unlocking Tool Specialist Secret required heavy investment and too much damage loss before Fatalis.

    am i the only one thinking Switch Axe needs a buff? because most Attacks (that deal some damage) require a fair amount of commitment, while there are no defensive moves (like Guardpoints or Tackle). I feel like Switch Axe should do a bit more damage to have faster kill times, as a tradeoff for the skill needed, or am i delulu?

    • @Scrillix
      @Scrillix  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think High level Switch Axe gameplay is fine on its own inherently, but I do agree that the option of a defensive option could allow the weapon to be a bit more accessible for newer players or players who haven’t played the weapon before.
      Switch Axe Damage I think it’s fine, but maybe add some more damage to axe attacks outside of Wild Morph maybe? It’s hard to say. I don’t think you are Delulu

      I honestly do too, if you ever do a fresh playthrough of Iceborne however, the Master Rank Great Jagras Switch Axe is basically the best you can use until Safi Switch Axes. Good white sharpness, good raw, Exhaust Phial and 2 level 3 slots. Even has Hidden element Sleep so you can utilize Non-Elemental Boost for more raw.

    What?
    I think SA has a super fantastic time against AT velk.
    The hitboxes dont last long so you can even hop basically everything
    The zsd from stance does not trigger he rush and at velks head and wings are very safe even without temporal and rocksteady.

    • @Scrillix
      @Scrillix  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I personally think SA does fine. I wouldn’t agree to call it fantastic, but that might just be my inexperience at fighting AT Velkhana.
      And does going from Grounded ED//latch on really not trigger the rush that often? I’ll have to experiment with that if that is the case. I know being clutched on with claw normally increases the odds of the rush.
      I am also aware that Head and Wings are safe ZSD spots since alot of Velkhana’s moves don’t actually hit there, I never mentioned it because of the fact that being clutched on has higher chance to trigger AT Velkhana’s rush move.
      Edit: I would love to know if grounded ED is a safe option to get more ZSD’s in

      I does not trigger the rush at all
      Check how speedruns on at velk with SA are done. The combos are typically finished with a zsd from stance making even small dmg windows into big ones
      But what can trigger the rush from my experience is if you combo into cc from stance when not amped.

      @@Scrillix It's the same reason multiple people can ZSD a monster part at the same time, but multiple people can't clutch claw onto a part at the same time. ZSD's don't count as clutch attacks. There is a bit of code that runs on all monsters when you clutch onto them called 'self-target,' which triggers them to perform the exact move needed to throw you off the clutch. ZSD does not trigger this bit of code. It actually messes with a lot of monster AI too, interestingly, it seems like the monster believes you are either underneath them or just off to the side of them when you are performing ZSD. This actually makes any ground to ZSD safe (assuming amped sword) because it skips the claw and the monster can't figure out where you are, unless they happen by chance to use the move that throws you off. A funny way to observe this is repeatedly ZSDing normal Brachy's tail. Watch as he spins in circles trying to find you. I've seen him spin 3 times in a row before.
      To your edit, grounded ED to claw attack is unsafe during the window you are clawing. The self target code will be running until you initiate the ZSD. In case I didn't get my point across yet, for Velkhana, self target code (clutch claw) ALWAYS means doing her pin attack on the next move unless she is in the middle of a scripted sequence like ice breath -> falling icicles.
      This info doesn't have too many applications though in my experience because the ground to ZSD (Left click + Right click while in amped sword mode) is pretty slow, can be hard to hit the part you want to ZSD, and often if you have that much of an opening you will be doing higher damage with something else. BUT I find it interesting nonetheless, and useful sometimes knowing you won't be targeted unless you claw.
      Here's to hoping you read the comments on your 2 month old videos! haha

      @@brewerthecrook3989 well you’re in luck since I usually do look over any comments I do get. I will say, that is very interesting information and I will forever keep it in mind going forward.
      I do agree with you when you mention that finding openings for Grounded ED to ZSD can be a little tough and you have to go out of your way I find. So I prefer a more grounded playstyle, that being said, I much rather enjoy this fight with IG, and usually will play the hunt with that weapon as opposed to SA.

      @@Scrillix Much love man, thanks for the reply. IG definitely feels like the superior weapon here but something about the dance that switch axe has with her is so satisfying to me. Call me crazy...
      I think I overemphasized the ground>ZSD thing when the bigger point is that ZSD's don't trigger self-target AI, which you can extrapolate to any monster in the game. Try it on Fatalis' chest and he will just keep shooting fireballs at the ground below you, or Alatreon while he's in the air. So yeah, ZSD VELKHANA WITH NO FEAR!! (Or maybe just a little bit)
      How useful this is to know? I'm not sure. The game is 5+ years old and most, if not all the monsters are solved and scripted by now, but if you play more reactive than scripted then I guess it could help at some point. It did just come up in your comment section after all. Anyway, I appreciate your videos man. Keep em up!
