@@EternityKingdomsHeadHoncho For sure, and Thunderclash also played a good role in Wings of Honor with his being Kup's C.O. along with Flak and Landshark, with their all being the earliest inductees into the Elite Guard.
My suggestion for the G2 list, add repaints/rereleases only if they add a new gimmick to the toy, such as Optimus prime's voice box & infernos water gun. If something was added that gives it new play value, I think it's worth including.
I did look at the list of rereleases from 1993 and here's every figure with a new gimmick added Optimus Prime (Sound Box & Missiles) Jazz (New missile launcher) Sideswipe (New missile launcher) Inferno (water gun) Starscream/Ramjet ( Soundbox & Missiles) The Constructicons, Dinobots, & Minibots all either had no new gimmick, and in some cases even lost their original gimmicks. So out of the 19 rereleased figures form G1 only 6 (actually 5 since Starscream & Ramjet are the same mold) of them would qualify according to these limitations. This is a good number that ensures that rereleases can't take over the list.
We've done it- we're in Euro G1 now! This year, while nearly half of it is dedicated to combiner components with no combiner accoutrements, is a welcome return to form after two years of nothing but Micromasters, Action Masters, and increasingly over-the-top Japanese G1 designs. The Turbomasters and Predators walk things back to the basics, but this time with faction-wide gimmicks. Good colors on both sides, too.
As others have mentioned, if the repaint has a light retooling or new accessories that expand play value, they should be considered for the list. If nothing else, Voice Box Optimas Prime deserves *AT LEAST* an honorable mention.
My suggestion is include the repaints BECAUSE they are a new line. I feel like adjusting the rule this way might help you when you get to the Universe line repaints, too.
as someone who has generation selects rotorstorm, it's fascinating to see where he came from. I also have the upgrade weapons so he has his dual guns which I like to call vaporizer cannons.
Man I'm hoping we get more modern updates of the Euro G1 Transformers, I'd love a Thunderclash but even Scorch seems like an easy redeco/slight retool of the Earthrise Trailbreaker mold and maybe they could use Pointblank for Boss? I'd say for the 93 list if it's just a straight-up repaint with no other changes it probably shouldn't count, but go for it if it at least has something new like Optimus Prime with his new blasters and soundbox
1993 List Suggestion: Only include repaints if there was enough added in the transition from Euro G1 & JP G1 to justify reevaluation. Otherwise, stick to new molds.
I’m lucky to own a Thunderclash; I picked it up at a convention a few years ago, but not long after, GPS set in on the cab/robot, so I bought a cheap Machine Wars Optimus (cab/robot only), replaced any and all of the broken parts, and made it more aesthetically pleasing overall. A quick and easy “custom” to do, and it was totally worth it to restore Thunderclash to glory.
This was my favorite G1 era. I got Stalker and Thunder Clash for Christmas that year. Got me back into Transformers after Turtle-mania. They along with Rotorstorm were available at SEARS in St. John's.
G1 Stalker was a Holy Grail for me for the longest time. Ever since I realized that he wasn't a fake robot plastered on the Polish cover of the VHS with G1 episodes, I wanted him. Finally got him last year and he's very satysfing to mess around with. Currently the oldest TF toy I own.
Oh yeah! Stalker is one of my all time favourites! Nice and chunky, fun transformation, and great motto: "Hate till it hurts, then hate some more." My brother and I bought a bunch of these including three of the cars and two of the jets. I had Flash, the red Lamborghini Diablo, and the purple jet that I think was based on the YF-23 Black Widow II. Would have loved to have had SkyQuake too. For my childhood Transforners collection, they were the last hurrah until the Masterpiece line in 2004, at which point I was an adult, and could start dropping some stupid money on TFs. 😅
One of my kids has the modern Rotorstorm; got the figure from Hasbro Customer Care to replace some random figure bought in a store. We had never heard of Rotorstorm before and didn’t know what to make of his “loud and proud” color scheme, but he’s a keeper. Very cool to see the original on a Top Ten list
My top 10 this year. 10. Talon: This dude has a pretty beefy robot mode for a jet. I've never seen such a sleek vehicle turn into such a wide robot before. 9. Snare: I almost didn't include him because I don't really like how the wings end up on his robot mode but I do like the vehicle mode. 8. Skydive: Not the one you're thinking of, this one is a Decepticon. 7. Falcon: Stealth bomber, I like him. Apparently I like these jets more than TJ does. 6. Rotorstorm: Helicopter guy. 5. Boss: And this is not the closest we've gotten to a Batmobile, Cybertron Megatron/Galvatron would like to have a word with you. I actually didn't even notice this could be a Batmobile till you pointed it out but Cybertron Megatron/Galvatron I've always thought was a Batmobile. 4. Sixwing: I did consider Sixbuilder for this list because I have actually seen that set in person but all of these Micromaster combiners are kind of the same. The reason I chose Sixwing is because it's a team of jets that also has a combined jet mode. Literally all of these Micromaster combiners had the same combined Jet mode and it just makes the most sense on the jet combiner team. I would have included more of the combiner teams if they had different combined vehicle modes to make them stand out more. I love the idea that the combined mode also has a vehicle mode. I'm surprised this concept has not been used since. So this is the only one that made my list but you could honestly swap in any of the Micromaster combiner teams into this slot. 3. Stalker: Or as I know him, Machine Wars Soundwave. 2. Skyquake: Or as I know him, Machine Wars Starscream. 1. Thunder Clash: Or as I know him, Machine Wars Optimus Prime.
Thunderclash is one of my favorites in my collection. He's forever in vehicle mode so I don't accidentally break him transforming him. I really like the Euro G1's. Need the red and white Turbomasters but otherwise, I have all of them.
Maybe do a separate shout-out list for the redecos so the many excellent new designs of 1993 get some attention? Loads of them are great but few can compete with the vintage toys
I think you can include the repaints, but limit their amount to about 3 Or, alternatively, do the repaints as one big shout-out to the ones you think are particularly interesting
Ah yes, the Last Stand of the Wreckers year. Those few Euro figures have actually held up, and I would like to have some Generation Selects of these. And considering how deep they're cutting with Legacy, it shouldn't be impossible to actually see some of them in the main line.
I had some of these guys being from Australia. Stalker and two of the predators For these lists when including bots from a subgroup it would be cool to see a quick shot of their teammates for context even if they don't make the list
A good list. Even though he was the first micromaster combiner I had, I actually think Sixturbo is the weakest of them. His arms are a bit more awkward and his theme is less unified. Some of the best individual micro masters though.
Great list. Have 2 copies of the original Rotorstorm. His transparent rotors are exceptionally prone to stress fractures (and ultimately, breakage), sadly. Restorative measures must be put in place even before you embark on the journey of procuring one. 😅
I still can't believe I own a G1 Thunderclash complete except for 2 missiles, he can't stand up, but I full plan to use 3D printing to slowly replace all his GPS parts. As for the next top ten...I'd suggest just new moulds AND a separate list, maybe not Top 10, but still a list ranking the best repaints, maybe including some of the unreleased ones to have a wider pool to choose from.
Looking over what I remember from 1993, I think you should stick with original molds. I think there are still enough out there to make a list. I see Pyro and Clench, G2 Megatron, the Lightformers. The pickings may be slim but there are definitely some cool toys from the new molds.
In regards to the question at the end of the video, I looked into 1993 and I think there are enough new molds released in Europe, that we don't need to include molds from previous years just to fill out the list. I think it would be unfair to have Optimus or Megatron end up in the top 2 AGAIN when they were already in the 1994 list and there's not a good enough reason to dip into existing molds just because they got a re-release.
Huh, funny that. I literally got the last few missiles to complete my Boss and Scorch today. Good choices! I hope you'll consider Pyro and Clench for the G2 videos though, those are great figures.
I say stick to the format, some of those great toys from 93 often don't get talked about, granted it means more Euro G1/G1.5 (we didn't get G2 until 94) but toys like Aquafend, Leadfoot etc don't get the recognition of how cool they are
For the 1993-1995 years, at first I thought if you didn’t include the G2 repaints that you wouldn’t have enough to list 10 per year. But I just checked and you do have enough to list 10 new figures per year. So I say keep doing new figures and no repaints.
Maybe do a top 10 using repaints in your head and then do a top 10 of only new molds in your head and see which one you think is a better list (yeah I know more work but just an idea)
I'd say if the toy is new to the US (Machine Wars and Universe 1.0 would have a bunch of these later on), a toy that was never released before, or did something different enough to the original (though this would be bottom of the list unless it's really drastic) to stand out versus the original, why not give it a chance? If it's just another color scheme or slight change to the weapons (Bumblebee's new color, Starscream's new guns), maybe not unless you really have a slot to fill.
Agreed. He's got such a fun palette and he's got a guaranteed Optimus repaint built in... sadly, with the return of Warden, I doubt we'll see anything more than just a repaint of United Animated Optimus.
You know its Euro G1 era when almost all the toys are obscure and the most well known figure is the GPS prone Skyquake.
Hey, now, this has the inimitable Thunder Clash in it! His roles in MTMTE and the Wreckers IDW2 miniseries ought to count for something, right?
@@EternityKingdomsHeadHoncho And Rotorstorm and Stalker, both had notable roles in Last Stand of the Wreckers

I agree, they're enhanced variants in essence.
I did look at the list of rereleases from 1993 and here's every figure with a new gimmick added
Optimus Prime (Sound Box & Missiles)
Jazz (New missile launcher)
Sideswipe (New missile launcher)
Inferno (water gun)

of them would qualify according to these limitations. This is a good number that ensures that rereleases can't take over the list.
I agree with @R0-83-RT, but how bout a mention after sayig wich one look better because of the repaint?
Thunder Clash taking the top spot, what a guy!!!
We've done it- we're in Euro G1 now!

1993 is probably the funniest, because the release of Power Rangers in advertently led to the cancellation of G2.
Well part of it. The more advanced Super Nintendo didn't help matters either.
For '93 do both: A list of best new molds and then a list repaints - that's two videos now, even if they're short.
I say yes, include repaints for 1993, but maybe do a list of 15 rather than 10. That way you can show off a good variety of old and new
For those looking for Skyquake without gold plastic, there are two more options: Machine wars Starscream and Universe 1.0 King Atlas.
I remember Scorch from a DK Transformers Guidebook, also a very Armada Red Alert-looking head.

Only include repaints if you don’t have enough for 10. I just checked and there are only nine new moulds to North America moulds for that year,

As for G2...Bruticus was an awesome toy. Colour haters you don't know what you are missing!
I have the Arial Bots set and I found them at CVS pharmacy
I still hope Hasbro does a new G1 Skyquake out of the recent Prime toy.

I'd include the repaints for that one.
Doing some repaints for 93 is fine.
TJ ma boy, 1992 was the yer Tf returned to America. G2 started this year with a bunch of redecoes.
Hm. Well..I say that you stick to new molds for G2? I mean..yeh, it can work.
Would you be wiling to do a video focusing on the Turbomasters? I'm not sure its a gimmick/group that's actually been covered in detail.
I had Machine Wars Sandstorm it was neat
Same. Also Starscream, and I really hope we get the Legacy Skyquake mold in those colors.
Brand new only. Highlight stuff that otherwise would not get the attention.

No repaints, we die like men!

I was thinking the same thing, if it wasn't for those things on the sides of his head it would look even more like Armada Red Alert's head.
9:20 I bought a knockoff of him, a couple of years ago, and it was not that bad. Shame i don't have it anymaore.
it's odd to see a list for once where i have most of the toys from it.
3:49 WHY DOES UIS HEAD LOOK LIKE ARMADA RED ALERT’S 😭😭
Include repaints if it really helps it
Include repaints for '93.
Crazywe still don't have a new Thunderclash toy...

Falcon is an anti-masker
While re-paints might make for a better list, I don't think you should change the rules eight videos in .
My 10 , 10 - scorch 9 - flash 8 - hurricane 7 - snare 6 - talon 5 - boss 4 - stalker 3 - skyquake 2 - rotorstorm 1 - thunderclash
include the repaints
Repaint only if the year is really bad
