    This was a really moving scene in Feud. All Joan struggled for, sacrificed and achieved throughout her career. And just 2 seconds! Not even a film clip! Shameful. And when it's stated in Feud,"that's all any of us will get." That was very telling and sad. Joan deserved more! They all deserved more.

      cliff9685 It is the Academy after all, never a great track record with them. Hell, they omitted a couple of people this year plus the heinous mistake of adding a living person!!

      Yes! I can't believe that! This past Oscars was definitely historic for the wrong reasons... and the whole Faye Dunaway thing lol

      The In Memoriam segment only became a part of the regular show as we know it in '94. I guess this was just a special performance since so many notable stars had gone that year...

    • @Fatdaddio
      @Fatdaddio ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree that is a director's call and everyone seems to be blaming Sam for hogging up the time. It is NOT his decision when to start the side show. They also have to time it so they are not running slides after the song is over.

      I never believed Mommie Dearest was a true story beacause most of Joan's friends and also her twins denied that it's true. They always say she was a loving mother and sometimes loses it like every mother. I'm so glad that Ryan Murphy never put Christina in Feud.

    Takes me back to when this scene was recreated in "Feud", and they showed other actors reaction to how short Joan's mention was:
    Catherine Zeta-Jones (Olivia de Havilland) says "That's it?", followed by Kathy Bates (Joan Blondell) saying "christ, 50 years in show business and they give her two seconds", to which Susan Sarandon (Bette Davis) says "that's all any of us will get". The harsh reality of Hollywood

    A lot of people are comparing the "In Memoriam" segment to those we're used to seeing today. I'm sure there were many back then that were short and rushed. Feud wasn't kidding about the 2 second length. I agree, a proper (and longer) tribute should've been given to each star being remembered. On a more positive note, Sammy's singing was amazing and Marvin's playing was great as always.

    • @steved4641
      @steved4641 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      And I don't think this was even an official "In Memoriam" because, if I'm not mistaken, it didn't start until the 1990s. Like the year Davis passed away (1989), she was only shown during a montage of 100 years at the movies. I'm pretty sure of this.

    I've been training as a crooner but never liked the sound of most crooners, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra mainly. That's left me with Bing Crosby and Nat 'King' Cole mainly up to now with a little Elvis who was not technically a crooner but could croon in tracks like In The Ghetto and Love Me Tender. I've only just discovered Sammy and this number could be a hit if I can get the title and sheet music so I'm pleading to all, if you know the title, please share.

    They could have done the memoriam pictures from start to finish as Sammy was singing and do double exposure at the same time. Just 2 seconds for actors of yesteryear. Pitiful.

    I remember seeing this. After the 8 minute ovation for Chaplain at his 72’ honorary Oscar I was sure Sammy would sing ‘Smile’ over clips of Elvis , Bing, Groucho, et al, ending with Charlie. How perfect that would have been. What a disappointment.
