The 'ruin' is the old peat works boiler house/railway station, the track you followed is the old railway line. It was used in WW2 to house munitions, the army blew it up at the end of the war. There are many ways to get to Fur Tor, in my view the most scenic is through Tavy Cleave, but everyone has a preferred route.
Ahhh, thanks! That is really interesting. I did finally make it to Fur Tor, and will certainly be going back so I will try going from Tavy Cleave as you suggest, I ended up going from Postbridge again. Thanks for watching :)
Hello mate looked like a nice chilled out camp glad you dog enjoyed it 👍 Well done rembering the wine this time it's an essential item. Audio was sounding good to me 👍 Looking forward to seeing g you out in the hex ✌
Cheers Dean, had a couple of nights in it so far, and have to say that I am not regretting the purchase. I am still trying to get the pitch right though, how do you set your pole to the right length? Do you just do it by eye? I have now packed a small sewing tape measure so I can set it right!
@@ryanrunningwild The most important thing is to get the rectangle that you pin out with the two braces properly square if that makes sense (corners at true right angles) I then just pin out the other two corners and lengthen my pole like a umbrella if that makes sense. I haven't got a clue how long my pole is. Probably makes no sense 🤣🤣
A huge big tail wag from Otis to Gimly! I really appreciated your plan B...indeed, holiday traffic even here in Nova Scotia can set the clocks a speeding ahead and schedules all behind...It sure looks like a lovely area indeed. Hope you are looking forward to a wonderful week. Take great care now...Bruce and Otis
Great video Ryan. It’s a shame you never made it to Fur Tor. I intended to head there this weekend but a pal decided to join me and I figured it a bit far for him on his first wild camp. So that’s for a future trip now. Really liked seeing Gimley, he’s a great addition. Dogs make great companions on camps on Dartmoor which is why I take Dave when I go, he loves the walks and has taken to the tents really well. Thanks for sharing your adventure! ATB and I hope to see you out there one day!
Thanks Daniel, spoiler alert, I finally make it to Fur Tor in the next video :) Gimley is a bit of a tool, but, he made for some good company. Although he kept finding bones. Was not sure if they would do him any good or not, but he is still alive so all good!
@@ryanrunningwild looking forward to the Fur Tor vid then! I can’t let Dave eat anything on the moors, he has a strict diet due to a dodgy tummy. It’s surprising what they manage to find isn’t it?
Hi my dude, good video. I think I watched you off Summit Or Nothing (I make Dartmoor videos too). The route you picked to start to get to Fur Tor 1 in the centre of Dartmoor seems a little unusual to me - if you look on the BMC map there's an awful lot of bogs and river crossings on Amicombe hill and beyond you'd get stuck in. I'm thinking of trying to get to Fur Tor myself, I actually think Trev & Nath picked the magic route - you park up at Lane End (past Horndon) and walk up the Tavy Cleave and then go to the right. That's what I plan on doing when I have a crack at it, possibly to camp. One of the shortest journeys you can take, too! Good luck ;)
Hi, thanks for watching. The reason I was going to head in from Great Links was mainly that I knew that part of the moor fairly well, so at least the first leg would have been on familiar ground. I think the only serious bogs in that area are around cranmere pool, but, suffice to say on that trip I did not manage to get there. In the end I went back to my original route from Postbridge and walked through to Fur Tor from there. I have not dont the route from Tavy Cleave, but, have heard from a number of people that it is a nice route, hope it goes well for you when you decide to do it! Ryan
Cheers Lewis, you know what I had not even considered that. I have to admit that my available funds have so far gone into tents, packs, boots etc as I figured that I had "clothes" but, that being said clothing is part of the kit I guess. I will have a look into some better layers which will deal with sun a lot better. Thanks for watching!
We have a black lab who suffer in the sun my wife made him a white coat out of an old tee shirt and when he has it on he don’t even pant, any old white tee shirt over the dark will drop your body temp down by half or more, I had a black car once never again it would be to hot to get into I now have a white van brilliant in the sun.
Looks like it might have been my car parked next to yours at Sourton. I was out that way on a few times end of May and during June. Gt Links can get rather busy this time of the year but it looks like a good spot you got at Lt Links. ATB, John.
Wow, small world :) That was a good hike, such lovely weather. I have quite an intimate relationship with that car park. A month or so before that Hike, I accidentally locked myself out of the car after getting back from camping on Great Links. All my gear was in the boot ( had left my keys in my pack ) and I had to sit in the rain for about 4 hours before getting rescued by my wife!
Hi Andy, Nope, its the same pack I have had throughout. I do have a new one though which will be in the next video. The weather was really good, and I did not get lost either! There may be hope for me yet :)

Love your dog just chillin out in his blanket while you talk to the camera... literally looks like he's got this wild camping lark down to a tee 🙂👍
Yep, he is a very lazy, I mean adaptable dog :)
Another very enjoyable upload. Great time lapse. Awesome view from that Tor. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Mark!
Another great video! Instantly in love with Gimly!
Glad you enjoyed it!

You need to have a light top on as the dark top attract the sun I always use white tops in the summer

@@ryanrunningwild Sorry to hear that, definitely not fun. :(
Good camp by the looks of it. Any issues with ticks? I had 4 on me after I took Monty out for a camp.
Hi Paul. not on that particular camp, but I have had quite a few recently, little gits!
Great weather once again Ryan. New pack?
