In the countries these type of knockoff machines are built it's all about cheap parts. The motors, the sensors? These are very likely not only cheap older parts, they are likely surplus parts designed for different machines, that were obtained extremely cheaply.
The filth responsible for selling these dangerous litter boxes should face criminal charges, it's negligence at the minimum, and yes, I'm not calling them human, they don't deserve it.
Never trust amazon reviews. Many scummy sellers will sell something decent for a while to farm good reviews and then change the listing to another product, keeping the reviews and stars. Amazon will not do anything if you report it.
And even if you end up reading amazon reivews, ignore the 5 star ones and treat the 1 star ones with scepticism as both are often quite bs. i learned that 4, 3 and 2 star reviews are where it's at, although even then they can be a bit iffy from time to time but they are a lot more honest about the product compared to 5 or 1 star ones. Also products that are like 90% 5 star reviews are also bs.
There's a history of CN bot farms being hired to fake reviews as well. The fly by night nature of the companies tho makes Amazon moderation of reviews against bots practically pointless.

It could have been a honest mistake due to incompetence by the *manufacturer* , who could have easily made a mistake with the sensor component when trying to copy the product. That is IF we are being super-duber charitable, since the normal sensors that would be used in electronics like these to detect if a living being is there, does not actually work if they aren't actively moving for a set period of time, like when you are doing your business. You might have experienced this in public toilets when the lights suddenly turn off while you are sitting on the john and need to wave your hands for thr sensor to turn the lights back on, since they also used the wrong sensor. This has happened to me a few times The sensor component that is required in these types of devices is a specialized one that many in the field do not know about, and is usually up to 10-20x more expensive than the normal one (still not an expensive component for device priced this high) However, even in that super charitable case that the manufacturer made a mistake replicating it, there are absolutely no excuses for the retailer/importer to not withdraw them immediately, not to mention the scammy practise to keep changing stores and frontends to sell that deathtrap. Intentional scam is the only way you can see this as, no matter how charitable you might try to be 🤬

I can't see this as lazy. In the 90's I would have to drive to work an hour away. Wife worked down the street from my workplace too. We started at different times so I would work 7:30am to 6pm and she worked noon to 8pm. That was 6:30am to 9pm we would be gone. One of the cats she had had a habit of crapping in the liter box once then refusing to use it until it was cleaned. Even using 3 litter boxes it or the other would sometime use each one once then make a mess somewhere else. Others might only be gone for 8 hours to work but if their cat is a annoying about the litter box as hers was then a proper auto litter box is smart. Edit: She had 2 cats for a bit so I edited to reflect that.
I had the Litter robot 3 for two years when my old job had me travel a lot it was great. And my cat liked it. But once I changed jobs and I was home all the time. I went back to a manual scoop litter box mostly because the old litter robot developed a urine odor that I couldn’t get out. Now I have this metal one. Really easy to clean.

One time I bought an office chair that had 4.5/5 stars, and in the box there was a card showing instructions on getting a $25 gift card by making a 5 star review and sending proof to their email. Then two months later the chair literally broke in half while I was leaning back on it. Go figure.

Wow. I'm just annoyed. I work 10-14 hours a day outside the house. I would be getting an automatic litter box if I owned more than 3 cats. I have 3 bunnies, and while I do everything manually , I would lose my shit if something like this happened to them. I would 100% be going "Taken".

it's basically one manufacturer in china that produces almost same product to many amazon/ebay store fronts uses. Depends of where you live. In worst case scenario if it's shipped from china you are importer and responsible of that product.
Even if the firmware update Does fix the issue and even assuming the sensors were good and wouldn't break. There's also the possibility that it auto updates the firmware in the future and ends up breaking those features again. The screeching the machine makes... Imagine that being the last thing you hear as it guillotines you. :(

1. Dont get cats if you are the "going out" kind of person. who barely are home. Sure cats are mosly soledary animals, but they need socialicing just as mutch as you do. Only get a cat if you are the kind of person who spends most of your time at home. Otherwise get some thing else. Idn a fish or somthing. 2. dont get more animals than you are ready to care for. If you aren't willing or capable of cleaning "4 cats's" litterbox several times a day. then dont get 4 cats. Get ONE. and be social with it. 3. dont be lazy. Care for your animals as you would care for a new born. Take no shortcuts. The animals life is in your hands just as a baby's would be. If you are not willing nor capable to care for it as if your own child, then dont get one. Way to many animals end up in a home where the animal is not treated well. So if you have to get down on your knees two, four, eith times a day to clean the litterbox then do it. or find a new home for the animal that will treat it better than you would. Allways make sure the animal have access to food and clean water, and if they have a litterbox, make sure it's clean. And allways be ready to socialice with them and take them to the vet if need be. If you are not willing or capable of this responisbility dont get an animal. simple as that.

Bro, I have a dog and a cat and I have taken care of them for over 3 yrs now, but yea, lemme just go and grab up all the pets and animals in shelters and in the street cause that’s OBVIOUSLY doable, right? Jesus, you guys are just as delusional as I thought. I said “unless you are PET SHELTERS” not regular everyday people with cramped spaces and not much time to take care of said pets everyday.

I’ve seen people who start off with good intentions and are able to maintain better living conditions for awhile but THERE IS ALWAYS A BREAKING POINT! You can’t be everywhere at every point in time to truly take care of so many animals. Unless you don’t have a job or are a remote home worker, it just isn’t plausible. You, for example, do vtubing as a job which allows you to be able to take care of your animals 24/7, but for the average person who is a full time worker, that’s not something that is feasible no matter how dedicated they are. If anything, these issues are first world problems that people put themselves in so no matter how you look at it, this is ridiculous to even argue about.
