Military equipment is well made but they do not properly maintain their equipment as they are well beyond their life time and used by soldiers who are not careful with it

Military grade is a baseline. At least in the US, you can almost always get better civilian versions of military gear. But military grade gives you a degree of compliance where you can be certain that it meets certain basic requirements for durability and interoperability. The last thing you want is out-of-spec MOLLE or other critical components.
coming from someone who used to work in a factory producing "military grade" components.. there is a lot more scrutiny, and spec compliance when it's a military job then some other civilian customer. doesn't necessarily mean the part is better or of a better material, but it's definitely "up to spec" as they'd say

I have that same feature on my 97 Ford Expedition, courtesy of Hankook mud tires! At 55 you start hearing the tire, at 80 you no longer hear the engine, or the radio, or any of the passengers in the car with you.

@@ElvenMans It's what happens when you put aggressive mud tires on something at higher speeds. Most cars and highway-type vehicles come with less aggressive, quieter, lower-rolling-resistance tires. People who go offroad(or "want" to go offroad) put big, knobby tires on trucks(and anything else they have) these tires are good for mud, sand etc... Highway noise is much higher though.

I was in the Marines back in the early 90's as a truck driver. The Hummers were junk from the get go. We had to work on them all the time.
Literally EVERY frucking military vehicle needed to be worked on all the time...

Im from Mishawaka Indiana. Where AM General is located. I can confirm this is bullshit. If it isnt fake its been gutted. Ive seen plenty and have friends and family who have built them. When decommissioned they just remove armour plating.

It may make a cool farm/ranch truck to tow/haul things around a decent sized piece of property.
But decommissioned hummers are generally not street legal for non-military use. It's not impossible, but it's not easy and not guaranteed.

There was a guy making kits back when, GM made him stop when they were bringing the H2 out. Most of them were on suburban chassis.
I remember when there were Hummer kits to convert a GM truck or Suburban into a Hummer. They were like $5-10k 15-20 years ago, depending on what you wanted.

You could also tell from the wheels. H1 hummers have an air system for the tires to keep them aired up. Even the civilian model has it.

You can buy them through govplanet.com in auctions. Yes you can register them and get plates too.
Brian Young I saw one in Washington State about two weeks ago on the road with plates on it. I know there are quite a few registered in Idaho as well. I see them pop on on Craigslist occasionally. I’m not sure all the hoops you have to jump through but it is definitely possible in certain states.
It was a kit that came out years ago when the Hummer was new. They sold you a body which you mount on your chassis. You supply all the small pieces to complete. The quality is as good the owner skills.

That was my buddies old H1 kit truck. He bought it from some guy in the upper northeast and got it shipped down to GA. It was a pain in the ass to drive as the steering kept coming apart under the hood while driving. 🤯 It did however turn heads when you crank it. It sounded F-ing amazing!

Hearing him talk about rough pickups reminds me of the one I just took home today. 1983, max at 60mph, 4th gear gets angry and 2nd gear maxes at 15mph, so you chill in 3rd all the damn time. steering is super loose and brakes are really hard to push down. But $800 is $800 and the 351W is running healthy, so that's all that matters, right?
