I think if you hadn't messed around with the cloak, you could take 4. Your mod, those pulse phasers have long recharge times, the war era saw power cells to boost recharge time. Plus it seems slow to maneuver.
Right. Or a pair of quantum torpedoes. The Defiant doesn't bother to dog-fight Bugs, it booms and zooms. It lines up a shot, fires it load of phasers and evades, repositions and fires its quantums. It spends a lot of time evading right after firing.
Hi Retro-Badger, I came across your channel about six months ago and have enjoyed watching these battles. I played the game originally when it first came out but your channel revived my interest in it. Thank you for this video because I think it's the first time you have been positive about the Defiant. Since the Defiant was introduced on DS9 I have loved the ship and once I started playing the game again and downloaded the remastered version I tried this same battle. You defiantly need to use the cloak and get in close when you attack then cloak again immediately and take the time to let damage repair. I know why you are reluctant to use that tactic but if done well it works. So far I have only gotten up to four bug ships before repair times are either too long or I have lost too many systems. I find though the specs for the Defiant in this and most games to be wrong. All the way around a Defiant class ship should either be equal to or edge out a Galaxy class ship when it comes to power available, hull strength, and shield strength, all areas which the game shows a defiant class is less than in. Defiant class is more agile at sub light speeds, the shields should be stronger and regenerate faster because the area the shields have to protect is less and the ship has a large energy reserve. Also because of the large energy reserve the plus phasers should fire longer and recharge faster. The hull strength should be at least equal to the Galaxy class and the armor should add anther 25% strength to the hull. I agree that like in most shows the hero ship is very heavily protected with plot armor and in DS9 the Defiant was no exception in some episodes but it was a war ship built to go up against the Borg. I know I am kind of rambling but if I knew how to mod the specs of a ship I would do it. Anyway thanks again for posting your videos.
4:42 Retro Badger: we've had multiple successful cloaks in this video. Also Retro Badger: (destroys the ship while under cloak) If you're on a mission where Retro Badger is messing about with the cloaking device, request an immediate transfer! 😹🙀😼🙀
I think it would have suffered from limited scientific systems and slow sustained warp. When travelling through the unknown being able to scan distant regions for threats and resources is vital. You can avoid potential conflicts simply by going around, no resource pressure forcing risk taking and if you are caught simply warp past entire fleets. Cloak is a bit of a deus ex machina though.
1:13 It is, so they can more easily swap out the deflector components that are housed there. NOT a warhead. There are no explosives in that section, just the deflector, deflector control, and the docking port. The technical manual is, and has always been, wrong about this, because it was going off of an earlier concept for the ship.
Not like the DS9TM has had any inaccuracy or errors... not... at... all...😂😂😂😂😂😂 (For those unaware, there are a mess of errors and inaccuracies in the DS9TM, including the schematics for the Frankenfleet ships)
That also makes sense in universe, the Defiant class being designed when complete annihilation by the Borg seemed imminent. Having a massive warhead detach as a last ditch effort that crippled some systems was worth it. When that fear receded they replaced it with a purely technical version, but if a Borg attack on Earth rematerialised they'd still be able to quickly retrofit the warhead module.
I laughed hard when you blew up after the fight with the first two. I think this is about accurate. I gotta agree the "no no no no no no" part is the best. Reminds me of when Rodney McKay frantically yells, "No no no no no!" when shit is about to hit the fan lol.
We saw the Defiant destroy five fighters & disable a sixth during the Battle of the Omarion Nebula. Granted there were Cardassian & Romulan warships fighting. From what we saw on screen in the later Dominion War battles I think the Defiant class could beat about six bug ships and damage a couple more whilst taking a severe beating itself. The Dominion were interested enough to try and capture it.
I am a big fan of the Defiant and think most of the games have gotten it's strength wrong but at the Battle of the Omarion Nebula it got there late and we don't know how many of the ships it took out already had battle damage. I do think the Defiant could easily handle 4 bug ships that were completely undamaged to begin with and with the right tactics, like whatever Kang did, it could take out more.
Came here to say this too. Plus, I think this was before the Defiant had it's armour installed so it could've handed more asses to the Jem Hadar with it.
The lore accurate defiant could take out a Jem'Hadar fighter with 2 quantums or one phaser cannon barrage, and it had greater maneuverability. It was strong enough to bully Negh Var class. Even the valiant piloted by cadets was able to survive a Jem'Hadar flagship for a decent bit of time. The defiant shown here is far more balanced than the real defiant LOL
You should have uploaded the video tomorrow, because tomorrow is not a Tuesday and then the Defiant would not have had a cloaking device. Improved combat efficiency! ;)
So i dont know if its possible in bridge commander, but it would be neat to see how many 1v1 fights the defiant could go through back to back before it got destroyed.
@@thelegendarysolocard in KM using Quick Battle (not QB Plus), there is an option to have random opponents pop in (and allies), not sure if it could be configured to do 1v1 with only opponents, would be worth a look...
@@MSR-1701 i think it could lead to some interesting matches, its one thing for a ship to perform well against multiple ships of one type all at once, but something else entirely to see how it performs in back to back fights. For me that was always the most impressive part about the voyager series when in hostile territory like kazon space they had to combat constant threats with little to no recovery time at times.
@thelegendarysolocard it is a fun mode to play with, though it does work best when your install is stable (no broken scripts or missing files, no ultra high res textured ships, etc). Though when it works, it is a blast.😎
It’s ok to use the cloak, as like in the series you must have disposed of the Romulan supervisor, definitely not attacking her with a bat’leth and chucking her out of an airlock never to be seen again
Honestly, I think if you started the fourth round and cloaked before adjusting the power levels, you wouldn't have taken an initial pounding, and you might have been able to beat 4. but i think it would have been a stretch and five would have been the limit.
Could only handle 1 as two was pushing it. He said he lost on a technicality and actually won. I say nope that was a legit loss. Rest of the battles were just pure luck.
I have to ask what tactic you are doing. I see this every time you cloak you decloak in front of everybody. That is not a military tactic you don't hide yourself and then go peekaboo in front of them you get behind them and shoot them whether weakest and their weakest weapons are targeting you. And turn the clock on first before you start adjusting your power levels you got shot in every single instance but one because you were too busy moving your sliders poor military tactics I love the videos but your tactics are horrible
If you use the cloak and stay cloaked long enough to wear they are spread out enough after doing the initial damage and then just do hit and runs bam bam bam bam bam and then they're separated by like 60 70 km you can really knock these bastards out. But after I got up to five it was just too much damage being taken before those hit-and-runs become super effective and the fifth one I tried to do the hit and run on and I just got smoked.
Ha! I called it! See you do one shot them when you hit them from the top or the bottom. They're shields are just not strong on those sides. And he did it against the second ship in the 3v1 and even the 3rd ship it looks like.

That was awesome. I may watch it again! Really great battle.
DS9 “plot weapons” showed the Defiant can dispatch a bug with a single pulse phaser barrage and then fly through the debris. 😂
Right. Or a pair of quantum torpedoes. The Defiant doesn't bother to dog-fight Bugs, it booms and zooms. It lines up a shot, fires it load of phasers and evades, repositions and fires its quantums. It spends a lot of time evading right after firing.
