Very fun interview! I saw Paul at The LA Forum with Wings in the '70s, and again at the Staples Center (from a private box above the stage - thanks to BET) with his "new" band in 2002. I say "new" because I believe he was in another band in the '60s. The high point was near the start of the concert, when my wife leaned out and screamed "Paaaaaaaul!!" In 1964, I was seven years old, having been raised almost exclusively on my mother's opera music (she was a professional singer) and my father's love for American folk music. Dad was just back from a tour as a military advisor in Vietnam, and we watched Ed Sullivan on an old Zenith black and white television. All three of just just sat there with our mouths open unable to understand this amazing sound. I kind of liked it, but I dared not say a word... I waited until 1990 to tell my father that I liked hearing the Beatles that night.
I probably get a regular weekly dose of Beatles. At 70 yo, I listen to My Music (Classic Rock n Roll & more) everyday. Beatles tunes will always come up.

I wish I could hear commentary on the JFK Airport arrival. That is such a remarkable story, The Beatles had no idea the reception was for them! They thought they were arriving at the same time as the President or the Pope. That's Why! they were looking around in stunned amazement as they descended the staircase. Interesting Trivia: Lindbergh was similarly surprised when he landed in Paris, 1927. He thought he was landing in the middle of a circus, he had no idea the Parisians were there to greet HIM! Wonderful Stories.
It never ceases to amaze me when these interviewers don't ask anything about the creative talent that came out of Paul's collaboration with the other Beatles. That spark of genius is so elusive for most of us that when we have one of the most talented people in history sitting there, we must ask how it was made. I guess no talent Dave forgets his place.
@Donna di Lode I agree. Without Paul they would never have lasted even as long as they did. Especially after 1966. The Get Back series surely shows that. He may have come off as bossy or demanding but every single thing this guy put out from 66 to the end is a masterpiece. John had great talent but Paul was the mastermind behind them.
I was in middle school in 1970, in a really nice suburb of Denver. Our social studies teacher had us 'looking for clues' as she played Abbey Road on a record player. Wish I could relive those years. Everyone loved that class.
Paul honored Dave Letterman, by performing with his band atop the studio marquee to a crowd of tens of thousands in the street. One of Macca's hottest performances! In the 1970s I owned an original 1964 Hofner Violin Bass like Paul's. Recorded lots of songs with that incredibe guitar as a session bassist & singer at Warner Brothers Studios! Knowing our producer, Dan Wallin, recorded sessions with George Harrison made our sessions extra special. We musicians were all HUGE Beatles fans.
At the time, Warner Brothers was producing the film, "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" with The Bee Gees and Peter Frampton. During the many breaks in recording, while studio technicians serviced the high-precision tape recorders, we'd cruise Warner Brothers' "Back Lot", watching movies being made. It was a musician's dream! I did a little "soft shoe" on the same "New York Street" stoop Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland danced on 30 years earlier. It was a musician's dream!
How in the hell did a 14 year old Paul, meet a 16 year old John? Two music ICONS!, Then, Paul says I have a friend named George...are you kidding me? Now we have 3! The Perfect Storm. Then...along comes Ringo....and the rest is history.
They met at an annual village fete in Woolton, Liverpool. Paul was impressed by a performance of John's skiffle group The Quarrymen (his school was Quarry Bank, not far from Strawberry Fields).
I followed the Beatles in Liverpool when only Scousers knew who they were, early 1960s. Dancing to their music at the Cavern, the noise was unbelievable. Their music is fantastic and my kids think so too. My grandson's middle name is Lennon. ❤
min 11:20 C'mon now Paul! When MJ bought the Beatles catalogue in '84, Little Richard's catalogue also came with it, as an add-on collection with Specialty Records. As a gift, MJ gave Little Richard his songs back along with the millions in back-royalties that he deserved.

@@rebeccaoverhol - They will depart this Earthly realm. Adjustments for different time zones still puts them at a 3 day gap.
He didn't mention that Michael Jackson whored out the Beatle music to every horrible con artist corporation commercial around while protecting his own music from the same exploitations. That's what will kill you early. As happened.
Paul has such depth of perspectives and a super great attitude.
How so the depth? Just curious what you’re thinking

Paul talks like a fan all that history and he still comes across as down to earth I just saw the roof top concert at the imax on the 30th January and it was amazing that massive screen did that concert proud the audience loved it I went again and noticed their guitar cases on the roof seeing them was brilliant

Very fun interview! I saw Paul at The LA Forum with Wings in the '70s, and again at the Staples Center (from a private box above the stage - thanks to BET) with his "new" band in 2002. I say "new" because I believe he was in another band in the '60s. The high point was near the start of the concert, when my wife leaned out and screamed "Paaaaaaaul!!" "His Sir-ness" looked up and saw us waving down -so he waved back and gave us his trademark thumbs up. Saw a video of the show recently - and there it is!
5:38 - NEVER seen it before, but I love that photo!
With all five of them in there and of course ‘Uncle Ed’!
The microphone; the camera angle; the curtains… GREAT PIC 👍
I got to see Paul at Lambeau Field in Green Bay and it was the best concert I've ever been too. Paul is a living treasure!
In 1964, I was seven years old, having been raised almost exclusively on my mother's opera music (she was a professional singer) and my father's love for American folk music.
@@ritamaid123 I do. Read my post again, slowly.

Dear Paul, ‘Yesterday’ was my favorite Beatle’s Song back in the day!! ❤😊❤
This makes me want to go listen to some Beatles records.
Start with 'The World Tonight'.
Do it
oh what
I probably get a regular weekly dose of Beatles. At 70 yo, I listen to My Music (Classic Rock n Roll & more) everyday. Beatles tunes will always come up.

Quite proud that he's from my city.
A great interview with Paul McCartney on Ed Sullivan. And Paul McCartney is a great singer. The Beatles a great group.Glad Paul McCartney is still with us.
I know, me too! I hope we have many more years with Paul and Ringo. 💙
@@kaymuldoon3575 yes I agree and a great night to you
It’s nice to have some true first hand reflections on the Beatles
Excellent ! I have questioned certain aspects of Paul. but He came across very witty and charming. ( If he reads this it should certainly help his confidence.) Wow, hes a musician/songwriter for all time. So glad he's still around. It still hurts to think of George & John. thank you for postin g this.
Paul has the confidence and ease that only comes with being indescribably successful and famous for 60 years.

Paul & I are the same age. We saw him in Greensboro, NC a few years ago. He did 3-1/2 hours straight. He and his band were absolutely great. Once in a lifetime experience.
Look up "music" in the dictionary and you will see Paul McCartney, the man is responsible for such great music
"The long and winding road" always gets me 💕
Easy-going guy, looks really healthy. Great work ethic, incredible talent, incredible energy - what an inspiration!
Paul really shined in the second half of the Beatles career. An amazing musician.
How strange.. It's almost like he was a different person from the first half?! Listen properly to this interview maybe!
@@willferris366 no. Music styles changed. Appearances changed. Life changed. Still the same Paul. I prefer the later day Beatles because their music and the rest of music became more adventurous.
@will ferris I’m with you. He’s very adept at being Paul after 55 years.
@@thetruthfornow6045 I see what you are saying and I don't disagree, but the early Beatles through '65 'or so brought more joy to the world than is humanly possible.

Growing up listening to all the hits
And later in life actually seeing him perform I was walkin on air,
There are no words to describe it

I wish I could hear commentary on the JFK Airport arrival. That is such a remarkable story, The Beatles had no idea the reception was for them! They thought they were arriving at the same time as the President or the Pope. That's Why! they were looking around in stunned amazement as they descended the staircase. Interesting Trivia: Lindbergh was similarly surprised when he landed in Paris, 1927. He thought he was landing in the middle of a circus, he had no idea the Parisians were there to greet HIM! Wonderful Stories.
Yeah, "We thought the crowd's arrival was for your president."
Lyndon Johnson? Not a chance.
the video is here on youtube. they were really funny and charming too lol
One of his many great attributes is his humility, the fame never changed the nice person that he was and is.

@Donna di Lode What actual proof do you have??
@Donna di Lode I agree. Without Paul they would never have lasted even as long as they did. Especially after 1966. The Get Back series surely shows that. He may have come off as bossy or demanding but every single thing this guy put out from 66 to the end is a masterpiece. John had great talent but Paul was the mastermind behind them.
@Donna di Lode “This Paul”?? Oh, for God’s sake. I suppose you think the moon landings were fake and the Earth is flat? 🙄

The word legend is over used but McCartney defines the word, the world will be a much poorer place without him in it

He's pure class.
@@nuwavedave That movie stalled Peter Frampton's career for 20 years.

How in the hell did a 14 year old Paul, meet a 16 year old John? Two music ICONS!, Then, Paul says I have a friend named George...are you kidding me? Now we have 3! The Perfect Storm. Then...along comes Ringo....and the rest is history.
The perfect storm. Well said my friend.👍🏾
