Just as a heads up, Ripper Roo is in the pool of characters that has the best turning stat but the worst speed stat and speed is what you need to keep up with Oxide the most. When I was learning to complete CTR and CTR:NF back in the day, I chose acceleration characters first and then speed characters and I slowly got used the turns and tracks with those characters. Acceleration: Coco + N.Gin Speed: Tiny + Dingodile Luckily, Nitro Fueled made a change where every character can be any class but in the original, it's not that way here. Honestly, I did these recently and the only one that actually broke me was Papu's Pyramid. To the point where I had to switch from Dingo to Pinstripe since you need to go up the pyramid PERFECTLY. Best of luck with that nonsense.
Most I’ve managed was about 177%. Those platinum relics are no joke and some of the crystal challenges are brutal (Pogo Padlock, Sky Balls and N.Ballism). I’ve still never got the crystal on N.Ballism.
Here is my TOP 5 hardest ORIGINAL CTR Oxide Ghosts. (With some extra description) TOP 5: #5 - Dingo Canyon This time simply doesnt have any shortcuts in here and time is little bit more strict than some other tracks that can be 1 shotted easily. #4 - Cortex Castle The oxide ghost seem to be quite competent on that one. Long track, not much time to save, its more of the same as Dingo Canyon, just longer and slightly harder. You can take advantage of Blue Fire tho in here if you can pull it off. #3 - Blizzard Bluff Its easy to mess up that one, but you easily 180 this if you pull off the "UNOFFICIAL" in this version, fence shortcut, but its much harder to do, unless you practice the shiz out of it. #2 - Sewer Speedway Highely competent Oxide Ghost, with easy to mess up track. Both Shortcut AND the Barrels. You can take advantage of half-pipe speeds up tho in the final barrel section. #1 - Papu's Pyramid. This will forever remain as THE hardest oxide ghost to conquer. As a kid, when I FINALLY learned how to do the Powerslide Boost, THIS track remain my final obstacle to getting 100% completion. And when I have tried it again 2 days ago... yep. Still took the longest amount of attempts. Unless you know how to take advantage of ULTRA UNOFFICIAL SHORTCUT... then you have be quite precise with your driving. Whats your top 5 folks?! That list is pretty sensible. I'd be inclined to agree. Especially with Papu's Pyramid at the hardest. It was the only stage I had to switch from Dingo to Pinstripe because of that pyramid climb.
I genuinely miss your dev time trial vids I remember looking forward like crazy to the next video, I have not had the same hype for any video series since. There was something super relaxing about watching you play CTR intro fueled, but at the same time it was super exciting and equally hillarious when you had to do a nightmare track such as out of time lmao. If you ever decide to revisit them, ill be there
I believe plat relics are still harder than this, some levels are super easy like the ones you beat already, but some require you a lot of precision on top of speed so they will definetely be a challenge
By the way, you might be interested in this - Darkaiser recently made a mod for the OG CTR to make it run in Widescreen at 60FPS on Duckstation. This was apparently made possible by an ongoing decompilation project for the game (which could result in a full-on PC port of the game with full source code available for mods once complete). Darkraiser has some videos of both the 60fps + widescreen mod and the PC port progress on his YT channel (doesn't seem like YT's allowing me to post the links for some reason, so you'll have to search for it yourself)
It took me years to learn how to power slide because they called it the "boost" button. How am I supposed to know which one the "boost" button is? One day, I just randomly thought, "If R1 is the "slide" button, maybe the opposite button is the "boost" button."

Ripper is the slowest one The turning stat is good for bendy tracks But tracks that don't have tight curves are better off with Accel characters (n.gin, Coco) or some tracks even with speed characters
@@NyXx_CTR Agreed, I was talking from a more casual standpoint. Getting into more technical gameplay speed is the way to go. But for someone new/not as familiar accel should do the job. In my experience turning just makes me steer into walls lol.

The NTSC (American) version has Penta with the stats of a turning character making him the worst for that version. The easiest way to distinguish the versions is when you boot up the game. If you get to the main menu without a language select screen it is NTSC If there is a language select it is PAL And the most obvious one if the language is Japanese it is NTSC-J

The US version of the game was shipped a bit early, Penta wasn't fully finished so he got turn stats and it is missing his sound effects except "penguin 1" and "penguin 2". PAL & NTSC-J were fully finished and thus Penta has maxed out stats and his correct sound effects.

Good runs so far! Since you have experience in Nitro-Fueled, I don't think this should be too difficult. Although. there are a few tracks later on that can be tricky to beat Oxide. It is surprising how well this game still holds up. It was pretty much the best kart racer in the '90s and the controls still feel buttery smooth going back to it. I'm surprised you're going with a turning engine class. The speed class can be difficult to control at first, but once you practice and get used to it, it makes Oxide even easier.
I remember these were tough as a kid, i had 1 or 2 tracks i couldn’t beat. Nitro Fueled is a great game but there’s just something about this game, could just be the nostalgia tho
I could always do the gate with no trouble on blizzard bluff, but I would veer to the right off the shortcut as the bit of snow on the corner at the startt of the loop gave you a jump boost, and it lined you up better for it, a bit fiddly but with airbraking you could easily course correct and you'd absolutely fly over it.
If you hold down L1/R1 and repeatedly press R1/L1, you'll keep your reserves by hopping after gaining enough speed. I've learned that from watching speedrunners play this game. Also, Sewer Speedway in this game gives you SG (Speed Ghost) near the end of the track when driving on the side tunnels
@@blue_red_screen I meant to say after gaining Sacred Fire, hold down on bumper and rapidly press the other bumper to hop to keep that speed until it runs out. But full boost is still better
I did these a few months after the dev times. Not quite as hard, but it was really awkward to get used to these controls again. Dingo Canyon was the toughest one by far for me.
Crash Cove and Blizzard Bluff took you the longest to beat and just so happen to be dev times set by William P. in Nitro Fueled. There can only be one man behind the Oxide times on those tracks!
Oxide times are easy on the original CTR, only a couple tracks can be tough. I strongly recommend using Coco, and learn what speed ghosting is. Also ultra sacred fire pads in this game, don't boost otherwise you'll lose the speed, does require reserves though to hold it longer.
i find the fence jump shortcut easier than the river jump shortcut....ive always had issues with that damn river (OG version at least, never played the remake) fence jump you need to go at it more straight on since there is an incline too far away to make reliably. Lewis got SUPER lucky he landed on the second incline where he did to get that bounce
Penta Penguin has the best stats (including handling) so might be easiest to beat Oxide with. Though I might be misremembering as I don’t think Penta is broken in every region version, he’s my boy though
You need to play with characters with fast speed, like Dingodile, Tiny and master them, when you have it, it will be easy like a cakewalk. Also, if you can, learn how to get better reserves for the Sacred Fire, you will need it for tracks like Hot Air Skyway, Oxide Station, N.Gin labs and Cortex Castle for the Ultimate Sacred Fire!
You better try other character such as crash and coco because dingo canon and papu pyramid are gonna to have there video own alone for each they are MISERY and it is understandable speed character are hard to control but turning characters is almost impossible to win on the future tracks
Heres some crazy useful advice: STOP SPAMING THE BOOSTS. hold the drift until the meter is all the way full (to the VERY END of the red meter) before doing the other 2 drifts but also do the same thing you did with the first drift with the other 2 drifts. If done correctly this series will be over really quickly. These races are a joke if you can get the boosts timed right. Trust me i did all these in about an hour in a half and i use to SUCK at this game lol
Lewis. If you want a proper challenge I can send you my old CTR save from when I was around 14. It's insane. I've done the dev times on nitro fuel and I still can't beat half my times on the og CTR. I'll donate to the channel if you beat my sewer speedway time. I genuinely have no idea how I did it so fast 😅
I'll add I do the blizzard bluff shortcut all 3 laps. 😂 I think this could be the equivalent of Dev times for the original haha. I have the save ready to send

I know for a fact that you can beat all Oxide ghosts with every character in the game. I tested it and everyone can. So it's a matter of preference, i do think Papu Pyramid is the worst track for speed characters BUT it's still possible if you have strong enough fingers Dragon Mines is veeeery tight too, Turbo track as well but not as much
1:44 it doesn't actually help that much. Turn characters in CTR are shite bc in some tracks you'd want to keep powersliding even in tight straights (e.g. Tiger Temple) and Turn characters give a harder time doing this. Speed are optimal, Accel are less-optimal but more error-forgiving. Dingodile just doesn't fucking turn
Bro you beat dev times on nitro fueled. Ofc the skill remains. If you were to try oxide here before that, you would spend much much longer on every map

This inspired me to start running CTR time trials too, especially since Roo is my main. It is insanely satisfying to beat Oxide considering he's slow.

Penta Penguin has the best stats (including handling) so might be easiest to beat Oxide with. Though I might be misremembering as I don’t think Penta is broken in every region version, he’s my boy though

You need to play with characters with fast speed, like Dingodile, Tiny and master them, when you have it, it will be easy like a cakewalk. Also, if you can, learn how to get better reserves for the Sacred Fire, you will need it for tracks like Hot Air Skyway, Oxide Station, N.Gin labs and Cortex Castle for the Ultimate Sacred Fire!

Ripper Roo is one of the slowest characters he’s under the beginner class with his stats. Just use Tiny or Coco.

You better try other character such as crash and coco because dingo canon and papu pyramid are gonna to have there video own alone for each they are MISERY and it is understandable speed character are hard to control but turning characters is almost impossible to win on the future tracks
Heres some crazy useful advice: STOP SPAMING THE BOOSTS. hold the drift until the meter is all the way full (to the VERY END of the red meter) before doing the other 2 drifts but also do the same thing you did with the first drift with the other 2 drifts. If done correctly this series will be over really quickly. These races are a joke if you can get the boosts timed right. Trust me i did all these in about an hour in a half and i use to SUCK at this game lol

Lewis. If you want a proper challenge I can send you my old CTR save from when I was around 14. It's insane. I've done the dev times on nitro fuel and I still can't beat half my times on the og CTR.

We played it on hours to on end, and finally ended up at the same time😂. 1:14 or even 1:13 I dont remember the world record to that, but it was very close to it😂. I know for a fact that you can beat all Oxide ghosts with every character in the game. I tested it and everyone can.
So it's a matter of preference, i do think Papu Pyramid is the worst track for speed characters BUT it's still possible if you have strong enough fingers
Dragon Mines is veeeery tight too, Turbo track as well but not as much

Penta is just as fast as your Ripper Roo in US.
Which makes me wonder why you didn't play as Pura instead. Wasn't he one of your mains?
Honestly don't know how anyone can play turn characters they over steer. Penta is fully stated in the UK version so he's kinda broken.

1:44 it doesn't actually help that much. Turn characters in CTR are shite bc in some tracks you'd want to keep powersliding even in tight straights (e.g. Tiger Temple) and Turn characters give a harder time doing this. Speed are optimal, Accel are less-optimal but more error-forgiving. Dingodile just doesn't fucking turn

Bro you beat dev times on nitro fueled. Ofc the skill remains. If you were to try oxide here before that, you would spend much much longer on every map
