Mad lad not only 1st try's Sewer speedway, but clear's Papu's pyramid, the hardest Oxide ghost bar NONE with little difficulty with a LOW speed character. This is VERY impressive! FYI, while I couldn't powerslide up the pyramid as Dingo, I was able to do it as pinstripe (acceleration based), so it's not JUST Turn based characters that can do that, but I imagine it is a lot easier for them.
Goes to show how much Nitro Fueled trained us that this is nothing in comparison. Between the two version, those times were lenient, even if times are roughly similar (if anybody have seen my previous comment in the previous video)
It's all that Nitro Fueled skill he acquired back then. These Oxide times are cheap change for him now. All he had to do was adjust to the original controls and the rest is history, I expect the next episode to be the last.
Powersliding and boosting all the way up the first spiral is actually pretty easy as a speed character, actually. You just have to cut the corners properly, and sometimes boost early to avoid hitting the outside walls (boosting turns your cart slightly). The tricky part is the last turn before the turbo -- you have to be towards the outside wall right before the turn and then do a mid-air U-turn to land into a power slide right on top of the turbo pad if you want to hold Sacred Fire. It's actually performed very similarly to how you have to do it in NF.
The turbo pad for the last jump on Cortex Castle is a USF pad. It behaves like Blue Fire in NF except that getting any other turbo (landing boost, slide boost) downgrades it back to regular Sacred Fire. The best way to handle those is to get as much reserves as you can before hitting the pad, and then don't jump off of it (or your landing boost will cancel USF). It will give you an insane speed boost until your run out of reserves. Abusing that on turning class characters is especially helpful because USF speed is the same regardless of your class. Every boost pad that gives you Blue Fire in NF behaves this way, with the exception of the one in Polar Pass. You can also extend that speed even after you run out of reserves by froggying (holding L1 while spamming R1 to make your cart jump on the exact frame it touched the ground) since your cart only loses speed while touching the ground. You can also use this to keep downhill speed once you reach the bottom of a hill, and you can also froggy to avoid losing speed when going uphill.
When I was a kid, I thought those blue armadillos were sentient puddles. Somehow I never questioned why living puddles exist in this universe. I also thought that the turtles in Mystery Caves were rocks.
Here's a golden tip for N.gin labs : try to power slide and gain speed as best as you can before you reach the 3rd Boost pad ( the one before the blue tunnel ) , as soon as you reach the 3rd boost pad , don't power slide or jump on it ( and even after it ) , just Hold X and D pad right or left ( to control the kart ) until your reach the blue tunnel , it will give you some crazy speed .
The shortcuts in Sewer Speedway and Polar Pass were made easier by Beenox in NF. In the original they are a bit more difficult to hit. Congrats on doing those two as well as Dragon Mines.
I don't know about polar pass but sewer speedways is much easier in the original game, its very hard to fail as long as you're maintaining boost. In Nitro Fueled you have to go in a particular pattern to do the sewer speedway shortcut.
@@logiclunacy606 This guy gets it. OG Sewer Speedway's shortcut is easy. It was made broken (and then Benox fixed it) in NF. In a way, it's the same thing with the Road to Nowhere/High Road scare in NST. Those levels are super fun in the original C1 (i 100 % it every year, it's a tradition of mine), but because NST screwed up the hitboxes, they are perceived wrongly now.
Congrats! Yeah, if you have experience with Nitro-Fueled, it definitely helps make the original CTR a lot easier. All classes are generally pretty viable for Time Trials in the original game. In Nitro-Fueled, I think certain mechanics were changed a bit from the original which resulted in the Turning and Balanced engine classes being significantly worse. It is very weird that there are only 18 tracks in the game. That seemed like a ton as a kid when DLC didn't exist! 😅
I remember playing this like 25 years ago and WHAT A GAME (played Super Mario Kart in the SNES years back). I could only beat Oxide in 2 tracks, one of those being that nitro track, it was REALLY HARD, and you make it look so easy!
the oxide trials in this game sort of feel like an inbetween of velo times and dev times in nitro fuelled, props to beeting these with turn btw! i can only do them with speed in the original lol
Aye it's the boy with a part 2 so soon! Hell yeah! That's why he's the Goat (or maybe kangaroo in this case since that's what ripper roo is). That's why he's the Roo!!
U-turn works in originak ctr but it cuts your reserves, so don't use it unless you really need it. Also, original ctr has the frogging, which can maintain your speed after a downslide if you keep jumping And about the ultra sacred fire (blue fire in nf), in the original game you have to gain the most reserves possible before passing through a super turbo pad, because when you get any turbo after having usf, it goes back to sacred fire. So the usf exists in the original but you can't maintain it doing turbos after you get it.
The only track where i think u turn can be used almost the same as in NF is turbo track because the multiple u turn section is filled with speed ramps and you can already achieve a lot of speed that you can maintain with froggy even without reserves.
Oh btw Lewis, ending on Turbo Track will be VERY ANTICLIMACTIC. Its the easiest track in the game in OG CTR. To put it in perspective, as a kid before I have learned how to powerslide boost, Turbo track was the ONLY level I was able to beat oxide on WITHOUT powerslide boosting.
i was able to beat every track with coco but found out later that certain characters are better for certain tracks. Coco park for example is just so much easier if you take a heavy car. for dingo canyon i also would use a heavy car, just for that extra speed
I find the sewer shortcut easier in nitro fuelled thanks to air braking, in CTR the first run where I did the shortcut on each lap was the one I then won on
I saw a video of someone doing a shortcut on pupu's tample by jumping the cliff into the sprial going backwards it's a bit difficult to explain you just have look it up
So true, except for PAL Penta. I remember, 8 years ago or so, when I played original CTR with my Mother for the final time before she got "too old" for videogames, I let her pick PAL Penta and I picked Polar. Even thos she doesnt know how to powerslide boost or take shortcuts, on some tracks even at max speed, she was right behind me. Absolute madness.
My man, its exactly the other way around. In NF you can choose your type freely, where in OG CTR you are locked to specific characters for specific stats. You haven't played the game.
@@ZootmanX "Choose Freely" **only speed and maybe drift being viable** I totally disagree. I've been saying that "engine swap" does NOT fix the core of the problem for years and before it even came out. And if you can beat someone with Turn or balanced, then whoever you were playing against, were simply trash. That's all.
You do know you can get a bigger starting boost if you repeatedly press acceleration at the start right? I mean its not a huge change but its how he gets the lead on you in every start.
Oxide hits the wall in slide coliseum on third lap Watching you trying the oxide times reminds me back when i was trying it too, it seemed almost impossible and that there was no time to cut anymore, but when you realize it, there's so much time to save specially in the corners (and also playing as advanved character)
Commenting on every video you do now untill you accept my ctr challenge. My old save with a few amazing ghosts are ready for you to beat. I'd love to see it! I think my sewer speedway ghost is 34 second laps. Maybe even a 33. Something lap. I still to this day can't beat it
Lewis sewer speedway time 1:58:21 My ghost 1:44:05 Lewis polar pass 2:48:56 My polar pass ghost 2.36:83 I honestly would love to see anyone beat the sewer speedway ghost.
Watching this just makes you realise how over the top they went in Nitro Fuelled with blue flames and U-turning. Mechanics which were never intended in the original. Never liked the concept of U-turning as it doesn’t make sense for one, makes turn based characters irrelevant as speed characters can just U-turn, and it means someone like me who has 25 years of CTR muscle memory i now have to try and override that to get used to a new mechanic, a mechanic which doesn’t even feel official as it’s never explained in-game.
26:02 when CTR turns into a horror game
With that kind of size and face chasing you, yeah I cant disagree. XD

another great new time record, Lewis!
@31:10 lol Ripper roo stuck on the ramp!
Some things never change lol.
If its not Rilla Roo then its Ripper Roo....
...I guess all Roos loves to grind.
i actually love cortex castle, that and tiny arena were my best tracks for sure
oh wow, another 6 done! yeah I reckon you should be able to get the last 6 done in the next video (hopefully..)

16:19 me when Im having hot dogs with my friends and see them reach for the condiments
I saw a mod for CTR that replaces the original AI with world record holders times. Maybe you should try that one ? It seemed a lot more challenging
Always nice to see polar upload
There's something very comforting about Lewis playing Crash Racing Games.
You can Papu my Pyramid any time, Lewis

Yea i remember getting platinum on that one as a kid thinking the rest was easy
Turbo Track is so easy you can do the whole thing without even drifting.
New record in Dragon Mines. That was pretty quick!
The Oxyde time trials in CTR PS1 continue and the journey is becoming more difficult.
You can do the shortcut in Polar Pass way earlier than in Nitro Fueled. There are quite a few completely broken shortcuts in the original.
i was able to beat every track with coco but found out later that certain characters are better for certain tracks. Coco park for example is just so much easier if you take a heavy car. for dingo canyon i also would use a heavy car, just for that extra speed
Hey Lewis! Content idea: you could do the Crash 4 relics after this :)?
letsgoo more old school video games

I find the sewer shortcut easier in nitro fuelled thanks to air braking, in CTR the first run where I did the shortcut on each lap was the one I then won on
Good job, you still got more to go
Using speed characters for all tracks makes it waaay easier
Little does he know that the Sewer Speedway shortcut is free in OG
I saw a video of someone doing a shortcut on pupu's tample by jumping the cliff into the sprial going backwards it's a bit difficult to explain you just have look it up
I personally think oxide time trials are more challenging than NF developer trials
Hi Lewis, are you doing the trials again after they release the recompiled windows port? with 240fps, widescreen support and such
My man just forgot that U-turning exists.
The thing about the OG CTR is that every character is balanced unlike NF
In nf the characters dont matter anymore
So true, except for PAL Penta.

Yep, thats one of the main reasons i prefer to play the OG over Nitro Fueled with my friends as unpopular as it may be
What are you playing this on?
We need crash Bash platinum relics fr 😅❤
will you do velo's times in cnk?
Already done them all - the vids are in a playlist
cool
Seems like your ctrnf skills carried over to the og game

Coco and N-Gin both have better drift mechanics if I remember correctly
Please start doing the starting boost better 😭😭
Go with dingo, will be easy easy theb
Very nice laps with Ripper Roo!
Any reason in particular why you don't wanna use Penta? Is it for the challenge?
