Genghis never attacked a country first, he attacked only for revenge.
He attacked the chinese because they killed his relatives.

No bro, he was not avenger. He did all massacre for Power. He left India because he was bent more towards power than money because of his early harsh days of childhood.
It's just that he was lesser than the least Evil only because he was a man of Principles.
He always gave his opponents a chance to surrender. Also he never spared if he was insulted. Also he was against fanatic religious like Islam and Christianity,etc.. though he never loved any religion but may be left india because of some soft corner as it resembled his religion...

#8, I've it heard different..the way I've heard it was, yes, after Genghis' father was murdered, the clan broke apart, leaving him,his mother and siblings alone. they hunted to eat and whomever made the kill, no matter how small, it was divided between the whole family. well, they caught the half brother eating all of his kill, without sharing, and timogen killed him with his bow and arrow.. that's how I've read the story.. I may be incorrect, but I've read it that way in several different books by different authors...

The life story of Genghis Khan is the most inspiring ever. His father was killed by an other tribe when he was only nine years old. After that, the clan abandoned his family to live alone in the harsh cold of The Steppes. Temujin (Genghis) spent his childhood in hardships and slavery. He understood that only Power is survival. Luxury is just an illusion, and that it can end any moment, like it did after his father's death. His rise from a poor boy on a wasteland, to creating The World's Largest Empire is the most real and inspiring story ever told.
He never sought war for plunder or wealth. He always retaliated as a last option. Just by analysing plain facts from his life, you can clearly tell that Genghis Khan had one of the strongest wills and principles.
He is a role model for everyone

It's because we get our information about Genghis Khan (correctly written Chinggis Khaan) from a book called Secret History of The Mongols. It mostly talks about the good things he did like being loyalty, honor and mercifulness (sending missionaries before attacking) etc.
Besides, no one except Mongolians can say 'our ancestor who started as a slave managed to conquer most of Eurasia'.

    • @Larry_Suave
      @Larry_Suave 7 ปีที่แล้ว +151

He is not comparable to hitler or stalin or people like that. Genghis Khan was a brutal conqueror for sure, but he was not an evil person in any way. He was quite caring and compassionate for those who were close and loyal to him, and he treated all the subjects in his empire fairly. Once you were incorporated into the mongol empire, you were given religious freedom, access to the largest economy in the world, and didn't have to worry about war because you were under mongol protection. It would have been comparable to living in the roman empire.
At the end of the day the mongols probably had a positive effect on the world.

-He poured molten silver into greedy Shakhs who killed his merchants, not every single dude he saw
-Did not spill noble blood because we believed that human soul is in their blood. For us being suffocated in cow leather and other executions were type of honor, it wasn't made to inspire fear.
-Why are you always saying he was "Blood thirsty remorseless killer"
-Killing was not habit, they had a choice, and the ones who refused died honorably defending their homes
-Khan is like regional or tribal chief, in Mongolian Хан, and Khaan is the emperor in Mongolian Хаан
-It's Chingis, Чингис in Mongolian, Russians brought up that wrong one Ghengis
-Love how you slaughtered the name Zev, it's Зэв in Mongolian which means "Arrowhead", it was nickname given to him by the emperor himself, his real name is Зургаадай
-That ally you mentioned was brutal even in our standards, dude boiled captured people in a big cauldron which was used to boil whole sheep and no he didn't eat them, it was kind of decimation which was aimed to affect enemy morale
-There is evidence of all sorts of religious temple in the capital Kharkhorum, which the emperor himself ordered to be built, fact that he did not tolerate other religion is pure hogwash, he new if he messed with anyone's tradition the empire would not last long so he did not force nomadic food and tradition to anyone he conquered
-It's not human shield, it's auxiliary unit, any smart general would not want to waste his men when you're on campaign for over 5 years
-Mongolians do not worship "god", it's the will of the eternal sky to kill the opposing dudes
I believe you just salted most of the fact to make him seem as "evil and brutal" leader. I did not meant to undermine your research, and since the story is written by the victors I do not believe the version I'm saying is 100% true. As a true scholar you and I should make the best out of both versions and carry on with out research. The video was certainly interesting as how the Europeans seen us in the past times. I believe the cunning tactic that aimed to make us seem brutal cold blooded killers certainly succeeded since this is how you people think we used to be like. Cheers mate

So he burnt down the city and diverted a river over his birthplace to leave no remnants of his existence. You dont go in a wolf den and hit the wolf then get pissed when it rips off your arm.

Theres little evidence to show the effect these religious individuals had on the mongols and mongol empire.

Khan was brutal yes but this is a brutal age he simply had the biggest and best army and any other nation had what he had they would do the same thing
we should also look at some of the good things he did creating the silk road tolerated all religions he reasoning for slaughtering a city is no different then the US's atom bombing killing some saved many more through their fear
women were also treated very well there are several laws Khan created that made treating women like property illegal and women could inherit and administer land men were still dominant but it was a massive difference from europe were at this time women were chattel

He did have a good quality that most of the other great men of history cannot lay claim off. He never betrayed anyone, and was really loyal and go out of ways to help his friends. He tolerated his wife for carrying his enemy's child, he brought that child up as his first son, he fought an empire to avenge the unjust death of lowly soldiers who served under him. He got betrayed a lot but never betrayed anyone according to historical record as we know. The brother he killed was a person who refused to share food with other kids in the family and was generally being a bully.

Tolerance of religion was kinda volatile in the Mongol Empire. For example, when the Pope would call a crusade on your empire, would you not be a LITTLE cautious from your Christian subjects? Or when the Caliphate calls a Jihad on you, would you not be careful of your Muslim subjects?

There were a string of cities that were absolutely annihilated in the wake of Genghis Khan and his army's onslaught through the khwarezm: Samarkand, Merv, Urgench etc... All were massacred almost to the person. Merv was considered one of the weathliest and most prosperous cities of it's time. .

Just a bit of background...The picture you used at 7:41 is of Sikh guru Arjun dev ji. He is considered a great martyr. The Mughals of India were trying to force Sikhs into Islam. The Sikhs refused and fought against Mughals. Sikhs fought against Mughals for centuries and prevailed. Sikhs finally established Sikh raj in 1800s. Guru Arjun dev ji was boiled to death in 1606 in the city of Lahore (ironically the city became Sikh capital 2 centuries later). I have read somewhere that Mughals were descended from Mongols.

+Hablayo pakistan became an independent nation in 1947 before that it was all India. The Sikhs established Sikh kingdom in 1800 under maharaja ranjit Singh. Lahore was the capital of Sikh kingdom.Ranjit Singh died in 1839, his sons and grandson tried to control the kingdom but due to inner conflict and betrayal by dogras the Sikhs lost the kingdom to British in 1849. Most of the Punjab (both punjabs Indian and Pakistani) was under Sikh kingdom. I am a Sikh and I like to read about Sikh history.

Number four is demonstrably incorrect. Genghis Khan was generally tolerant of local religious practices so long as they didn't interfere with Mongolian rule. He had many generals that were of various different religions, and the practice of Christianity seemed to particularly appeal to Mongol sensibilities with many of them converting.

This is barely accurate. Genghis Khan was certainly brutal but he was also very innovative. If you read Genghis Khan in the making of the modern world which I have and is considered to be the most accurate history of his life you'll find that a lot of this is not true. I'm not going to list everything but he was actually very tolerant of religions and cultures as long as they submitted to the fact that he was the supreme ruler. He protected holy men teachers women and children etc. So long is basically they said he was the boss. He initiated a world mail system and protected trade routes and merchants. He also did not care of your status when you were born everything was earned in his culture. Which basically means you could have no name when you were born and rise to The top in his system and being born of high status meant nothing. he also took care of the families of his soldiers if they were to die in battle forever. I could go on and on but there's a lot of misconceptions about the Mongols actually. Don't get me wrong they were extremely brutal at times but very unique and progressive in other ways as well.
