I can totally relate to this. Being autistic, it admittedly makes it harder for me to socialize with people effectively. But my dog has helped me cope with not only my autism but also my depression and anxiety.
I truly commend the work that you have done for your son. My son is a little older, we did not have that support for him in his younger years but now he has a cat that he devotes his life to. She can do no wrong, she showers regularly, has the light turned on for her when she uses the litter tray. My son is able to focus his mind upon her. With this I have noticed he has the utmost respect for women and for animals. It was wonderful to see your son developing into a young man with a bright futur
It is so amazing the advances that have come in the use of service dogs. What was once an aid for the blind now benefits countless individuals across this nation.
This is a heartening story - and goes to show what the power of a parent can do. How beyond criminal is it that the school would not allow Jacob to have the help he so needed and the positivity that Thor brings to Jacob, and to have had to be threatened with a lawsuit to do what was right in the first place. Makes me truly wonder just who's interests the schools have anymore. Certainly not the students. Liability indeed!
what a wonderful story, im so glad that it all worked out. Jacob is so lucky, to have a caring mother, a wonderful companion, but also because his autism isnt very bad, there are people who cant and will never be able to talk or act properly.
It's amazing to hear stories like this. very inspiring and knowing never to give up is the key! wishing the best for Thor and Jacob... they will do just fine thanks to a wonderful mom ever!!
The idea that a school would stop a student from having support for their disability is mindboggling. Not only does it help Jacob, it helps all the students in his class as he would cease to disrupt the class with the support of Thor. The fear of liability from a dog in the class room is just stupid when it concerns a certified service dog (and yes, they do need to be certified). Would the school board also stop a blind student from having their guide dog? The fact is that if people were allowed to bring animals into schools and workplaces the world would be a better place as animals bring down stress levels, promote bonding and communication and show us how to live our lives better. But you get folks who only see potential lawsuits or don't like animals and due to our overly PC world they get listened to because it's easier to give in than it is to fight the good fight. But good on Jacob and his family for not giving up and good on Thor for being so amazing.
Incorrect, service dogs in the US do not have to be certified, certification only comes from an organization( such as in this case) and it simply means that that organization is certifying that they trained that dog( similiar to a diploma or branding a product with your label) people in the US are entitled to train their own service dogs wnich wont be certified and in the eyes of the law both dogs are on equal ground when it comes to which is a service dog. That being said, owner trained dogs ars expected to behave amazingly in public at all times.
I have a service dog for exactly this too :) I love my pit bull, Remmy. He is my service dog, my guide and the best dog I could ever ask for.... I dont know what I would do with out him. Wonderful story, and Im clad you have such a good dog like Thor. Dogs are wonderful creatures.
touching story! Jacobs mom is such a caring and beautiful woman - so dedicated to her son. Pets make everything better and instantly improve how you feel :)
My young diagnosis, is that he finally had someone to relate to. Autism I think could be partially responsible to control and those controling. I do not think Thor would fix everything, but the actuality that he has company, that actually is there with him for who he is, is what makes the differance. That and it gives Jacob another being (person) to think about other than just himself. You have a beautiful friend in Thor.
Read a few of your comments so I will clarify. Breed of dog is german shepherd. They come in many colors the most common is black and tan, blue, and blacks. No dog by ada law doesn't need to be "certified" there is no such thing. However a dog from an organization has a similar type that just says they passed our class. Even cgc or pat testing isn't needed.
This is amazing this makes me wish I chould have a dog I would get rid of all my stuff even having to sleep on the floor and be homeless to have a best friend in my life I know I have 3 cats but its not the same if always wanted a dog to take care of
What I don't understand is why the school would even attempt to combat the service dog--if a child was blind and had a dog, there wouldn't be a word said. But if you're not? They'll argue it as much as they can. How ridiculous. Glad they finally decided to follow the law.
Your playlist stated that service dogs help persons with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), yet the description given for the purpose of service dogs DID NOT mention that disorder being one of the ones treated. Why?
We address the symptoms but is anybody curios what cause autism and why its happening to so many of our children nowadays. Do some research on it you might find it very enlightening.
It's a nice story, although I don't understand why the SD is "certified" and why that has to be displayed on his vest. There is not such thing as a "certified" SD, at least not a real one. I also don't like that he seems to be wearing his prong collar off duty. :/ Touching story, though.
Please do not take my comment in a negative way: What happens with the dog oweners when the dog passes away? right now im just wishing these dogs can live lonnnger
You don't get her certified. There is not certification. You need to get her task trained to mitigate your disability. You also have to look up the definition of disabled to make sure you are in fact disabled. She also has to behave in public. Then, and only then, will she be a service dog. (This is only assuming you live in the United States. If you live elsewhere, I can't help you.)

Thor is so a very beautiful dog and I think it's amazing that he has helped this family so much

This is awesome! Mad me tear up! I think my son would benefit greatly from a service dog!
Just a beautiful thing. So happy For you. so amazing.
I'm an "Aspie". I find great confort in my family household dogs. My school doesn't care about it because I don't have a learning disability.

Great story, amazing dog. And Jacob rocks that hat!

To me this guy reminds me of Christopher from "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime."
Great video.
I like how it said CAT it was really funny! at 6:31 LOL
I LOVe THIs VIDEO!
so lovely, but i just cant imagine what happens when the dog dies :(
wow I just noticed he had the same wolf shirt I have lol
but this is amazing story ... :)
outback zack has autism too but look at him now, he is one of the big youtube stars
Usually, dog owners get another dog when the old one passes. lol.
We address the symptoms but is anybody curios what cause autism and why its happening to so many of our children nowadays. Do some research on it you might find it very enlightening.
I can't guarantee you that it ain't vaccines. Scientists don't really know exactly what causes autism. They suspect that it may be something genetic.
please tell me that is not a prong collar on that dog
its not. It looks like it but its just a seperate collar
