      This was a great video. Well paced and informative. I appreciate it!
      I'm looking to make video teaching fellow veterans photography. The reason I was leaning towards Vimeo is that I want to give away all of my content for free and Vimeo has a "download" option right on the videos--no need to find some 3rd party website to download anything. So the guys who are homebound and may have poor internet can just download a bunch of videos and watch it all from their local drive.

    If you set your TH-cam video as Unlisted, but you keep it in a Playlist, anyone can watch it by going to the Playlist. Something I recently noticed was happening to me.

    • @JasonAWhaling
      @JasonAWhaling  9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Oh, interesting question! I never played with that before but it does make sense that it would show in the playlist even though it's "unlisted". Since unlisted just keeps it out of your channels video page and TH-cam at large - putting it in a playlist would be "listing" it? .... Not sure if that's how it works

    Thank god I found this Jason! Thank you very much!! I was looking for this forever and could not find an explanation. You saved me some money since I was almost buying the hosting of videos with the course platform.

    • @JasonAWhaling
      @JasonAWhaling  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yay! I still use Vimeo for course content and backing up all my YT videos. It's much more economical than the course platforms that charge you for video hosting. Happy course creation!

    This video is great. You sold me on using Vimeo 😜
    Which plan do you suggest using?

    • @JasonAWhaling
      @JasonAWhaling  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I suggest going with the lowest price one. The extra features at the higher price points really aren't worth it. I use Pro b/c we use it as a warm backup for all the YT content. Otherwise I'd just use the basic for the sales videos and call it good.

    Vimeo has great customisation options, but please do not forget that Vimeo does have a bandwidth limit for every paid plan. They seem to be quick to hide behind their fair use policy. When you occasionally reach the 2tb monthly bandwidth, you will already receive a warning that you have to pay extra. Unfortunately, Vimeo is not transparent about the extent to which you have to pay extra. This is something you will only hear once you go over the 2tb monthly bandwidth.

    • @JasonAWhaling
      @JasonAWhaling  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right, it's not transparent at all and for someone who would hit that, it's a concern. That's is a LOT of traffic that most people will never reach which is why I tend not to focus on it in the reviews.

    Thanks for the clarity. If videos are unlisted in TH-cam, do viewers encounter the usual advertising before and during? That would be really annoying for an online course.

    • @JasonAWhaling
      @JasonAWhaling  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      For course creation, Vimeo is hard to beat. I would recommend the pro version so you can control your player controls and have plenty of space to upload your content.

    Good point about privacy and links. How do you accept payments for courses hosted on vimeo? Do you have a walk-through video showing an example how a vimeo course can look like? I saw one psychologist from Eastern Europe hosting her course on vimeo. But did not buy it.
    My course will have 50+ lessons so it is too much to build on my website (let alone any tech support would be time consuming ). So I am more towards some reliable course platforms. Because I plan a few courses on some topics which not related to each other (a different avatar), wonder also how to find a platform that allows to do that different look for various comminities without paying a few subscriptions.
    Of course it also depends whether tax wise to count profit from courses to one company or a few. I have 2 sole proprietorships and in the future considering to turn one of them into a corporation when profit will be higher.

    • @JasonAWhaling
      @JasonAWhaling  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would recommend checking out ThriveCart + ThriveCart learn.
      It's a one time fee and you can have multiple urls for the courses. But only one url for the checkouts. So you can use a generic url for the checkouts and use one account for both niches.
      Then the backend course platform can use different urls.

    Cheers for this, Jason. Super clear and helpful! One quick question: in Vimeo settings, there is an "unlisted" and "hide from vimeo" option. I'd rather not use unlisted for the shareability, so I=in the latter, will the video still play where we place it (in the course, website, etc.)? We don't embed with the code, just with the link. And is that link then not playable when shared (that's what I want)? Thanks man!

    • @JasonAWhaling
      @JasonAWhaling  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The video will still play when embed on your site when you hide it from Vimeo. It's what we do with all of your paid courses and it keeps the videos from being found outside of the pages you want them to be seen.

    Hello Jason
    I would like to make educational videos for a specific client base and only allow access to the clients who pay to view them. Would the entry-level (free) version of Vimeo be sufficient for that purpose?
    If not, would you be able to recommend any other video sharing platforms that might serve that specific purpose?
    Your video was great! Thank you.

    Hey, what do you think to using Amazon S3 (sorry put the name down wrong in my previous comment) compared to e-course platforms such as eg thinkific? Thank you in advance :)

    • @JasonAWhaling
      @JasonAWhaling  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      S3 only handles the hosting of your videos; you'd still need to create a site and log-in feature to protect it. One of the advantages of Thinkific is you can get everything done in one place and focus on the marketing (which is the hard part). But if your doing wordpress, nothing wrong with using S3 to cut costs

    Thank you for this very clear video. Have there been any further improvement with TH-cam in 2020, I have already uploaded all my videos for my online program and I would like some of the benefits of Vimeo without having to reload them again on vimeo.. also I have heard that vimeo is quite expensive..

    • @JasonAWhaling
      @JasonAWhaling  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      For what you get I think Vimeo is very reasonable... Nothing that TH-cam has done changes the downsides outlined in this video... you can go ahead and use TH-cam, just know the downsides and how unprotected your content is.

    We are in 2022 now. THX for that video it helped me a lot. I was searching for information about uploaded files features and could not find any. Vimeo these days (September 2022) has a plan with limited files uploaded per month, like Basic Plan has 5 movies/month. But I can't find any information on how big that file can be ? This is a pain in the a... because after I formatted my course with chapters and episodes I have to glue it together once more, render and after upload, I have to set all chapters and episodes in Vimeo or what ???
    Any help?

    • @JasonAWhaling
      @JasonAWhaling  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hopefully one of these help with answering those questions. For Vimeo the file size should not be an issue and the limits are for the total GB per period... You should be be fine (sorry I don't have a number for you )

    Gracias Jason! I'm really stuck. I'm dying to leave Teachable. $39/mth for terrible customer service. So I have vimeo plus now. I'm wondering can I put a free course up on vimeo that's private that I can send a link for people to watch on my own website? Or if it's worth vimeo pro $20/mth to sell the course. I'm not convinced that a good user experience is something where people need to join the vimeo platform and also only use paypal to pay (or are there other payment options?) to watch. I've also heard clients complain the course they paid for hosted on vimeo are hard to locate. What do you think of that?

    • @JasonAWhaling
      @JasonAWhaling  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So I wouldn't recommend using only vimeo for selling your course. It's going to be a headache and I'd imgine most students wouldn't be happy with paying for that kind of setup.... so I'd recommend checking out one of these two:

    Hi Jason, I have a question that if I want to make my video as a private download for my clients giving access by allowing username and password, is it possible in Vimeo and also if I upload the video in Vimeo, is any search engine will crawl the video? or if anybody directly goto Vimeo and search the video, will they find ?

    • @JasonAWhaling
      @JasonAWhaling  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You an hide the video from Vimeo and you can create passwords for your videos on Vimeo so only people who have that log-in can see it.

      @@JasonAWhaling Hi Jason, great video. Would you say creating passwords to view on vimeo is any more access -secure than just giving the private link?

    Which one is less evil in terms of mind control and viewer manipulation? FB and Google getting a lot of slack over that as explained in Social Dilemma documentary on Netflix. Wondering if Vimeo is purely a more healthy choice for viewers.

    • @JasonAWhaling

      That's something that would take more than a comment to tackle - Vimeo doesn't have as many social features as TH-cam

    Hi, I want to make online courses of 50 videos each of length 60 minutes. I want to sell it to 5000 users. I am embedding it on mobile app. But can vimeo handle that much amount of bandwidth.? Or is there any other option for that.

    • @JasonAWhaling
      @JasonAWhaling  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They do have a disclaimer that customers with a lot of traffic will need to pay more - so they can handle it but if you get a lot of playback; then you may have to pay more. They aren't clear on how that works though

    After watching your video I am very convinced that I should host my videos at Vimeo for my online course. Vimeo says they provide unlimited bandwidth. Does that mean any number of users can watch a video infinite number of times without slowing down or breaking my site?

    • @JasonAWhaling
      @JasonAWhaling  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup, sure does! It's a nice feature that other platforms limit. 👍

    • @tx2784
      @tx2784 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, be careful, Vimeo says you get unlimited bandwidth, but this is NOT true if your viewers paid to watch your videos then Vimeo will come to you asking you to pay money for bandwidth, this exactly happened to me 2 days ago, they said I should pay 9000$/year to earn 100K/GB bandwidth per year, read their terms first.
      I am looking for another Video hosting now, maybe I will move to amazon S3 but I am not sure any suggestions?

    • @mariapellicano
      @mariapellicano 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tx2784 that's what I heard. Vimeo is now charging higher prices and that they will also pull down all your videos if you don't pay for it.

    Hi so what about getting copyright claims

    • @JasonAWhaling
      @JasonAWhaling  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      🤔 if it's your course then no one should be copyright claiming your content.... There are issues with take downs on both of these platforms though. So it's not like you can escape them with one over the other

    I HAVE MADE AN ONLINE COURSE BUT I HAVE A QUESTION. HOW DOES VIMEO PAY YOU MONEY FOR YOUR COURSE THAT ARE BOUGHT?

    • @JasonAWhaling
      @JasonAWhaling  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vimeo doesn't pay you for your videos. You can use Vimeo to sell videos, but you'll need a different solution for your own course.

    • @JasonAWhaling
      @JasonAWhaling  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure I understand the question... You can upload your own content without issue; if someone uploads stolen content they will take down though
