  • During a recent ride my speedometer glitched out and stopped working so I had to do some inspecting to see what was up.
No doubt, the recent upgrades to my handlebar with risers would have something to do with that.
Decided to film to help out any NOOb that might have questions in the removal of the front tire, inspecting the speedo cable at both ends as well as removing the throttle sleeve and cable(s).
I'm certainly no certified tech, if I can do this work..anyone can.

One thing I find on all my bikes is that I like to add taller handlebars or a bar riser or both. Sometimes there is just not enough cable length after doing that to run the cables in front of the triple clamps anymore. I have since just automatically routed the throttle cables behind the bars so as to give plenty of cable length and not have a hanging idle or other weird stuff happening when I turn the bars. Looking forward to seeing your Baja videos, I have ridden a bit down there in the past, but not in the last 10 years or so.

Thanks for sharing your process. A tip: you don’t need to remove the 10mm nuts and axle plate, just loosen the 4 nuts and back out the axle. Also, be extra, extra careful not to break any of those studs on the fork, which has happened to many a hopeful mechanic.

Great troubleshooting. Always suspect the latest change.
I think you can pull the cable out even if it's not broken, but it should be secured and routed correctly so both ends fit in. Maybe it was getting pulled weird and sheared up top?
The DR650 clamps look different than the TW200 or DRZ-400 setup. Its interesting to see how many different ways the same task can be accomplished.
Good luck with the new cables.
