I had the same opinion of the 6.6 gal tank. Just too big for how I use it, i would feel a lot of movement in the tank. I would try the next smaller size next time. Lower solidly mounted pegs and seat are a must. I used a parabellum low profile shield and it was perfect for me. Your review spot on!
Great vid man. I love my dr. It's a bike I don't think I'll ever get rid of. Even if I do get a different bike the dr will just get a face lift and be scrambled out into something more classic. I have a long distance comfort mod that's constantly overlooked for this platform. Folding highway pegs for the lower front crash bars! Sooo amazing to be able to stretch out and recline a bit when you ride. They sell crash bar pegs on Amazon that fold and mold to the crash bar and doesn't stick out like a full peg. Doesn't always stay locked away when out on hard trails but does fold back when you crash haha. Highly recommended! And it's a highly overlooked yet simple and immediately rewarding mod.
I have the Acerbis 5.3 and am very happy with it, I also have the Pro-Cycle seat and feel it’s a little to firm so I have a air cushion I bought from Amazon and I think it’s the best choice
Put the filter right after the tank petcock, then move the T fitting back closer to the carb. Looks like there is enough room for a compact filter. Any small filter before the carb filter is ten times better!
Thanks for all the info and feedback 👍I can attest that the stock seat is definitely not good on long trips 😖: my 4K miles on my DR last October was a pain in the ass 😂 Do you have the lower foot pegs only or the “lower and back” ? Sounds like a good mod (I’m 5’11).
Got mine a couple months ago, I think you’ve convinced me on the seat. Also I’m curious, how fast do you typically cruise at on long rides? 80 on the interstate feels like it stresses the bike sometimes
The 5.3 gal tank is perfect size in my eyes and easy for fuel filter iv got a good size filter on mine there is a fast walk around I did on my Dr If you want to see filter and tank on my channel.
500 miles on an adventure bike in one day is pretty damn good. Even on asphalt! What happened to Jen? I really miss seeing and hearing her point of view?
500 miles is a long day! I’ve heard that metal skid plates are just too loud, especially on the DR. I guess they reflect all of the engine noise up at you.
My DRs are more comfy on the slab than my streetbikes have been. They're smooth and they cheat wind. I don't even have a windscreen, but I'm 5'8"/30" inseam.

Highly valuable info, thank-you!!
I just put the Seat Concepts seat standard height on my 2024 DR650, very comfortable. I am also using the Acerbis 5.8 gallon tank.
I’ve ridden my DR650 Sunny more than halfway around the world. More than six years on the road
Thank you very much for sharing the great advice. It will be of great help to me.

Hell yeah, I'll be putting some pegs on my crash bars! Being able to stretch your legs out definitely makes a difference! Appreciate you watching!

I just got a old XT 600 and the seat is surprisingly pretty good
Nice recap Thank you

I ran into the same problem with the clamps on my Mastad windshield I had on the Triumph Bonneville I had before I bought my DR.
Yeah, I don't like that size fuel tank either. I went with a IMS 4.9 gallon tank on my 2003 DR 650. Great motorcycle to own.. 👍
I have an IMS 4.9 on my DR and really like it.
I love seeing long trips. I would do long trips on my xr650r (not L) but with 600 mile oil change intervals, I'll just stick to my h2 sx for touring.

Congrats! Usually 70/75 mph. No issues for me.

Any opinions how these older DRZs compare to the new crop of adventure bikes, e.g. CF Moto 450MT, Royal Enfield Himalayan?

Appreciate you watching! Jen is both working and in school, she's just been way busy.

What you think about himalayan 450
Getting a lot of hype. Might wait a year or two and see what bugs shake out on it.

To me that qualifies a VERY long ride! Yikes.
