Hey guys, sorry for being a bit late with covering this topic, this video was meant to release around a week ago but then I got sick and it was also Christmas time. Hope you all are doing well!
These are the people we need. People who dont experience (also me) what people are suffering from screen but showing that they care for the people suffering. There is too many people who say "ur just acting entitled it isnt hurting you"
There's a ton of things that bring me pain in Splatoon 3, I didn't know we could get things changed like this. Please Nintendo get rid of Dualies! The movement is too much for new players and those sensitive to motion in a video game.
@@nuclearsuplex7383 They changed the screen because it could activate seizures and stuff and some people with serious health conditions could be affected. However, dualies are just difficult to play against and anyone with a condition that gets affected just can't players fast paced games in general, and that's not Nintendo's fault for having an oversight. They can't just destroy the core of Splatoon
Screen did give me an issue in terms of how bright it was but I'm very happy they've patched this up.I wish they did a quick run on how it affected people before they released it into the game
As much as I respect the splattercolor screen changed from being really bright to really dark, I'm one of those people who preferred the brighter screen when getting hit by it. But I'm really happy for those people who got affected by the brightness of the special have it fixed at least. My only hope is for the future that we can choose if we want the splattercolor screen effects to be super bright or a lot darker. I love the special's design concept as it reminds me of a flashbang in a way.
@@Rubellite-jq2kgyea but that moots the effect of the special. It’s supposed to make ink colors harder to tell apart not just add a black and white filter which doesn’t affect gameplay at all.
I would have just preferred if they just made stuff greyscale and darken enough one can still see and function but still can’t tell between the two ink colors in gradient. My main issue was not being able to see where and what I’m looking at
@@starlightrai perhaps they could make the ink colours look more similar alongside the greyscale effect? That way it's not too taxing on those sensitive to bright light, isn't as dark as an edgy 13 year old's heart and still serves its purpose as a support special that disorients the enemy team
I got affected by both contrasts of the screen. I get sick when I walk into it and it makes me dizzy and stuff. The concept of it is cool though I will admit
Now I feel less bad about using the screen. I really hope they fix the noise on that thing, because that's the most frustrating and uncomfortable part of the special for me (and other people with Audio Processing Disorder), but what they have now is a really good change.
@@Spacewizard9 Some colors might be easier to tell apart than others, but it can still confuse people plenty. I definitely get disoriented when hit by it, even not being able to see if the ground was inked in our team’s color or uninked (with really light colors like yellow or blue blue). Luckily I like being disoriented (and even dizzy), it adds to the challenge and I guess I like fighting my brain to figure out what’s going on quickly. It’s like visual quick time event training.
The devs need to make screen challenging to fight against but not physically painful to fight like every single special in the splatoon series. I want it too get reworked where the user can throw out parts of the screen at high velocity that do extra damage if hit but at the cost of making the screen smaller, and if you are hit by the screen then a white cloud of smoke will surround the players view ( like the fog in sr ) and go away quicker depending on how much enemy ink surrounds the hit player. Or the screen could just multiply damage to the hit players while still keeping the sheet part that blocks off a wide portion of vision over a section of the map, for all players. These are my ideas but at the very least screen shouldn't be causing physical discomfort to peoples eyes.@@Sweetie.21
I 100% understand why the old Splattercolor Screen was harmful to other people; especially to other disabled people. As a disabled myself; I personally wasn't affected by the special. But now I'm having problems with new Screen than the old. The dark visuals hurt my eyes and is MORE uncomfortable to me than the light visuals.
Same here, thought it's a tad too dark. It doesn't severely hurt me into a headache or something, at least not yet? But it's like I'm less prepared for this darkened effect than the previous brightened effect. I can see better previously, but now I have to look closer & squint. They could probably not mess too much with the lighting & more to do with the monochrome colors 😅 There's multiple ways to process colors into B&W afaik
same! So glad I'm not the only one who's experiencing this sort of thing. The bright screen wasn't really an issue but now I get just.... discomfort? Like I'm trying to focus on text in a dark room or smth. It's not bad for me to the point where I'll get physical headaches but I can see myself needing to rest my eyes if I come across this special a bit too many times. I've seen another comment suggest maybe even doing what mario kart does with it's "blindness"/confusion item, the blooper, where it's just a few splotches of ink across the screen instead of... you know, this.
I feel like the special's concept wasn't really thought through thoroughly enough, since due to its nature it's bound to cause discomfort to many people and it won't be fixable (as in still effective after the fix) unless they change the effect in a more major way
@@usernameisallfull That's actually a very solid idea IMO, the screen already has this swirly design with see-through gaps so that kind of effect could be just applied to the affected players' screens, maybe with the plain grayscale too
One thing I hate, the screen sure is better for some, the people who are sensitive may still be affected. Like myself,I get sick when i go into it. But apart from the screen, everything seems chill and ok for me (big run really annoyed me however). I got my gold and I'm happy now lmao
The ear ringing makes it feel like an actual turf *war* I personally dont have a problem with it, and i think the sound fits the whole disruptive/disorienting theme of screen.
i wish they made changes to the audio, but at least this is something i guess. i kinda worry that nintendo will see all the people saying screen is fixed now and not make any more changes. though to be fair, im honestly surprised they made any changes at all.
Why? It’s meant to disorient and confuse. Jumbling ur audio is fairly innocuous. Makes it harder for you to hear someone sneaking up on you. Which…good. Don’t get hit
@@pickcollins9910 i have an auditory processing disorder. the white noise the screen makes gives me a headache. id honestly prefer it just muted your audio to it playing white noise. it's honestly kind of baffling that they chose to use white noise here when the rest of the games sound design is top notch. it kinda feels like they just took the easiest lazy option with screen.
Exact same boat here. I'm really hoping they address the audio in a bigger patch sometime later on - while I like the concept of the Screen, the current implementation (with how it relies on the ink colours) is pretty bad. Making the screen darker or brighter doesn't fix that, either. That includes the audio design - I can only speak for myself, but somehow, the sound manages to both make me feel ill _and_ fail to cause any disorientation/confusion about what's going on around me. Either a bubbling sound or a more intense low-pass filter (muffled audio) would be so much better than the static-y splashing sounds, on all fronts.
After playing against Splatcolor Screen, I realized what that sound is. It's the same sound as pop rocks. I distinctly remember that sound giving me a headache.
Forget the colour and noise change, I personally think the effect should be that your screen is inverted, OR, your left/right/up/down inputs are reversed.
I think something they could do the the splato screen to keep the disorienting effect is to make all ink colors the same grey, that maybe even take away team mate’s player tags, so you literally don’t know what color is yours and which person is friend or foe
Really wish the splattercolour screen just made your ink look like the enemies ink. Could still do the lack of color but yea dont know why they didnt do that
If the current splattercolour screen fix is only temporary, I'll be a little disappointed because I love jumping into enemy screens, it honestly makes the game easier for me 😂 especially on the really bright maps. The amount of bright colours doesn't hurt me or anything but it can get annoying so a few seconds away from that with splattercolour screen is fun. I seem to aim better when hit by screen and don't miss any visual details
Screen did give me issues on both the audio and visual front. The visual part was uncomfortable on my eyes and left my vision weird, and i have tinnitus and the noise made it start acting up when i can normally tune it out
I’m so glad they fixed it, splattercolor screen caused headaches for me, so im happy they made it darker. However, while the sound does not personally effect me, I hope they fix it/make an option to turn it off for the people who are effected by it.
I’m really glad that Nintendo have IMPROVED screen. Something I think a lot of people fail to understand is the definition of “fixed” as something is only fixed when all known problems are resolved, so no, Nintendo did not fix screen, they fixed one of it’s issues but they did not fix screen itself for the sound issues persist. That being said, I am very glad that they have improved screen and fixed the visual health issues. However I seriously hope they continue and finish the job by fixing the audio problems.
I get strong headaches from white noise and the like and idk why but screen was especially bad for me, glad they fixed one of the issues, but i really hope they fix the noise too..
The changes to screen were no doubt a QOL change but they were also a hard nerf. It’s now way too easy to tell apart ink after getting hit. If screen is going to lose its power as an anti frontline special, then it should gain power as an anti range special Damage stays the same. But now let it block 5000 damage for its duration, and make it so enemies behind the screen are revealed as tho they are hit with thermal ink. This would prevent rollers from sharking against you with ur own screen, it would prevent LOS Jukes and it would make it so you can’t grief ur team with screen. Screen needed a change but without it being truly disorienting, it’s trash.
It’s way more disorienting to me. I had no issues previously but now it’s way too dark. It just looks like you’re looking into a void. I can’t differentiate anything.
My prediction is that they aren't done with screen and still plan to adjust it further (maybe even rework it altogether), but those changes won't actually be ready by the mid-season patch. Clearly something went wrong in the design process, so I'm thinking they want to take their time making screen a proper special and put this patch out so they wouldn't have to rush.
I wish the screen was a little brighter but not to the original’s extent and made it greyscale because I just see a black filter slapped on. Thankfully I can still see what’s in front of me better than before at least.
With the egg trophys, I got a sliver egg (the wrong one) then I got a free gold one a couple days later. Now I have both in my locker. Oh hey I didn’t get to that part of the video :p
The Screen audio effect is so grating it makes me cringe every time I hear it so I can only imagine how bad it is for people who are actually audio sensitive. I hope people keep making noise about this so Nintendo doesn’t stop here with fixing it.
Screen is decent. I think it needs some kind of buff but I honestly like the color scheme as is now. I never hear any sound but people tell me it sounds like loud static? Maybe I’m hard of hearing haha.
Honestly I can’t speak for the changes in game because I have yet to be hit by it post patch, but I can actually watch footage of it now post patch where I couldn’t before without getting a migraine. Still hopeful that they’ll address the sound in the future and potentially adjust the visual effect so that those still affected by the darkness can enjoy the game. But still a good W from Nintendo.
Should have had option in the settings to convert that black in the menu from the start, instead like current CoD flashbangs. Trust me it sucks to have your entire screen go white all of a sudden when ya get flashed especially when playing in a very dark room. Plus it could allow for inverted color option for folks can take it/for the lulz.
I personally think the concept behind splattercolor screen is well thought out and creative but finding a way to execute it in a way that doesn't exclude certain people from playing the game is going to be hard. Imo I think Nintendo might have to just scrap the idea simply because there is no way to please everyone with this special. If they still decided to keep the splattercolor screen I think an interesting direction they could go in is instead of messing with those hit by it audiovisually, they could instead mess with controls themselves I.E. inverting motion or stick controls or something more silly like making it so that you have to hold ZL to stay in human form and letting go of the button pits you in squid form. Just some of my ideas but I still think scrapping it is the easier option.
The fact that the devs messed up the salmon run patch twice is concerning. This just gives the people that call the devs lazy, or incompetent more fuel.
I actually think the new screen is worse. I didn’t have any issues with screen previously but now it seems like you’re looking into a black void. I can’t see anything. I’d prefer the old effect back. Perhaps a choice?
Honestly I don't see many people get hit by screen, I feel like it should make your vision limited kinda like during the fog challenge, so you can only see things directly in front of you, and it should disable hit sound effects too.
Kinda wished they gave everyone all the lower trophies too because its kinda sad I get one gold egg trophy and seeing people with lower scores with a silver and gold one.... Splattercolor Screen is still really hard to see things but at least its not blinding. Sounds still horrible tho so I hope it gets fixed pretty soon.
Even though this update was flawed from the get go, I’m never going to not forgive them for the biggest change they made… Salmon Run Checkpoints (and they fixed the Boss Salmonid scent icon! I NOTICED THAT!!)
SR “checkpoints” should’ve been there from day 1. Grinding from Evp 40 to 999 especially in freelance is tiring, tedious, and takes a lot of time. Especially given just a two day window.
I still dont like the ink screen, its not like the ink storm where you can easily move out of the way because its so large, and is really hard to avoid on smaller/craped maps. I had an experience where somebody with the ink screen during ranked tower control kept using it because of their build, they weren't really killing or on the tower they were justing using their special wich gave that team the advantage.
Splatoon devs: "Hey guys here's a very cool and unique special that will play as a supporting role by disorienting the enemy cephalopods in battle!" Everyone with some level of disability with their eyes/ears whether physically or mentally: "AHHH! MY FUCKING EYES!! IT BURNS!! SHUT IT OFF!!!" Splatoon devs: "Oh shit, we accidentally made it whitescale instead of greyscale. Whoops." Chargers and Splatlings: "WHERE THE FUCK ARE THEY???!?" edit: I captured a video of what happened the moment the Big run ended. The newscast played, but right when the A button was pressed to state the "big news" about big run, suddenly the screen transition played and suddenly deep cut went to talking about the map rotations for that hour. (... i should probably post it on my channel, don't know why I didn't do that sooner...)
Splattercolor Screen should make the colors harder to differentiate. I applaud Nintendo for making it more accessible to those with visibility impairments, but it's just not as effective anymore
I will be honest I understand about the visual part of the screen but the sound??? Imo i think its pretty fair or else if they change the visual (already did) AND the sound, the special will be just useless.
Im glad the devs adressed the issue with the Splattercolor screen, i had really bad eye pain whenever i got hit with the dang thing so i couldnt play the game for a while, im so happy that i can play again
Do realize that there is so many variables in how to play this game that there is no way to have everything accounted for. Take the Ramen map invisible glitch. You cannot test every possible action on every inch of the map. Obviously, after tens of thousands of players have played the map, it will be found. And when it becomes common knowledge, especially for the few in the top tier (respective to the number of all players) then it becomes abuse of a glitch and players can face repercussions of abusing the glitch.
I don’t really know how this could affect someone because of personal experience but I believe affected individuals regardless. For me I just found the special annoying because of the audio and visual affects and because of how many people complain about it. I don’t understand why they even brought it into the game, having a shooting game without flashbangs is kinda nice. Also there are a lot of people I can tell that fake their negative experience because while some people go into detail to explain the discomfort, others just comment stuff like “I hate it” or “it hurts my eyes”. I just never like the special except for the concept a moving wall for either team to play off of, I like that for sure
I tried explaining the screen fiasco to a friend (that doesn’t play the game) and he genuinely didn’t understand the need to fix it, and the more I talked to him about it the more I’m starting to not understand it myself. Like how do these people play other shooter games that have flash bangs in them, do they also complain about it or do the other games handle it differently? I think the change is ok for people that got severely affected by it, but it’s definitely a nerf to the special.
disabled people / people with sensory issues deserve to be accommodated, gaming isn't, and shouldn't just be for abled body people who have no issues :/ flashing is a big issue in games, and most don't even warn about it along with other jarring sensory effects which is huge accessibility issue across the board also dumbing done issues that can psychically hurt people to 'complaining and nerfs' is pretty rude ngl
@@crittersforsale its not rude, when it got patched people were saying that, "its a real special now" or "yay, I can see" defeating the purpose of the effect. I think they did a half decent job with addressing it.
I really do appreciate the devs revisiting the screen but I still struggle against it because of the sound which sucks. I’m not sure what they could do to the sound without removing it flat or just rendering it useless but I do hope they can fix it! Right now I have to take my headphones off if I’m in a match with screen which feels pretty unfair.
Splatterscreen was a deserved change, I think the sound should stay the same cause it’s meant to disorient you. The visuals were what the majority were complaining about. Also I got my proper Gold Big Run reward but because I wasn’t given a silver by mistake now I don’t have an extra one, so jokes on me!
I'm kinda on both sides with this situation. I know half of the people who said it was hurting them were liars but the other half were being legitimate.
@@Chase247 no because you were all dramatic for no reason as this didn’t cause anything for anyone accept what it was meant to (and that did NOT include physical pain)
I hate that they patched screen. Now it's completely useless and does nothing. The old screen was fun AF. I genuinely have difficulty believing that people were rolling in pain from shades of white. I'm more in the camp that people will just overexaggerate discomfort, just like the people who run to the doctor over a sniffle or the pills the moment a tiny headache forms.
This is ableism. You're just assuming that people are overexaggerating/complaining just because you weren't affected by it, but how can you really know? There are disabilities out there that cause pain to this type of thing, even outside of Splatoon. Do some research before being ableist my guy
@@Chase247over a quick tone shift for 5 seconds in a fast paced shooter game? As people said to me when I asked for aim assist for non-motion control users: maybe this game isn’t for you.
@pickcollins9910 not sure if this is directed at me or not but screen doesn't even personally affect me, I had no problem with the old version. But im respectful to the people who did have issues with it, and I don't chop it up to "they were just whining"
“Ooo, people have been hurt by something! Gotta make fun of them!” I literally couldn’t play because of the migraines that it caused me. So stop being a smartass and go touch grass
Idk what the difference between the screen and a flash bang is. They changed it though so nothing we can really do. The only difference between screen and flash bangs in other games is that i feel like screen has a larger duration.
Pretty sure you would be whining to some extent if your preferred weapon got a bad kit or the story, the gameplay, etc. Your level of empathy is minuscule and your attitude is borderline ableist. You should be ashamed of yourself. If you’re gonna be insensitive about it, go watch that weird JFK assassination game someone made years ago and tell me the complaints is whining there.

I got a bronze instead of silver and it hasn’t been fixed
yay, no more convulsing on the ground bcz nintendo didn't know what they were cooking.
I wish the screen was a little brighter but not to the original’s extent and made it greyscale because I just see a black filter slapped on. Thankfully I can still see what’s in front of me better than before at least.
screen doesnt hurt while its in effect but when it gets off of effect the colors are just way too bright for me. probably just me tho
I just hope they fix the noise for the screen because that bothers me, it makes me tic
Liking the new outro 👌
With the egg trophys, I got a sliver egg (the wrong one) then I got a free gold one a couple days later. Now I have both in my locker. Oh hey I didn’t get to that part of the video :p
The Screen audio effect is so grating it makes me cringe every time I hear it so I can only imagine how bad it is for people who are actually audio sensitive. I hope people keep making noise about this so Nintendo doesn’t stop here with fixing it.
maybe for the sound they could change it to where it mutes all sound instead
I’m glad they fixed it whenever it hit me I felt a little nauseous
Screen is decent. I think it needs some kind of buff but I honestly like the color scheme as is now. I never hear any sound but people tell me it sounds like loud static? Maybe I’m hard of hearing haha.
I really hope they fix the sound as well. I don't want to commend them until it's fully fixed lol
To clarify on the rewards. Their first patch fixed the issue for future big runs, the second one went back and changed the latest big run
Plus it could allow for inverted color option for folks can take it/for the lulz.
im confused, what sort of physical pain did the splatter screen special do? i havent played the game is a while.
There were Big Run problems? Was there a Big Run recently that I missed???
Beginning of the month.
@@Chase247 Aw man, well at least it means I didn't get the wrong reward.
Alone we beg. United we bargain
Sounds still horrible tho so I hope it gets fixed pretty soon.
only time nintendo listens is to prevent them from getting a lawsuit
now that we fixed screen how about we give tetras an ACUAL KIT
pray for fresh and sizzle season 2024
Angle Shooter Triple Splashdown
Even though this update was flawed from the get go, I’m never going to not forgive them for the biggest change they made…
Salmon Run Checkpoints (and they fixed the Boss Salmonid scent icon!
I was glad there was a new special but dam.
Splatoon devs: "Hey guys here's a very cool and unique special that will play as a supporting role by disorienting the enemy cephalopods in battle!"
Everyone with some level of disability with their eyes/ears whether physically or mentally: "AHHH! MY FUCKING EYES!! IT BURNS!! SHUT IT OFF!!!"
Splatoon devs: "Oh shit, we accidentally made it whitescale instead of greyscale. Whoops."
Chargers and Splatlings: "WHERE THE FUCK ARE THEY???!?"
edit: I captured a video of what happened the moment the Big run ended.
Is Screen not giving physical pain considered a debuff?
Literally. They nerfed it's only utility
@@JoryGoof yes,now i can't kill people by using undercover brella!
(Joking)
I will be honest
I understand about the visual part of the screen but the sound???
Imo i think its pretty fair or else if they change the visual (already did) AND the sound, the special will be just useless.
The lazy devs solve this issue quick, and let other big issues in a fridge...good thing i find games with devs that not are lazy and quick fix things
Nice run time
Im glad the devs adressed the issue with the Splattercolor screen, i had really bad eye pain whenever i got hit with the dang thing so i couldnt play the game for a while, im so happy that i can play again
Hey I would rather the special be worse than it physically hurting people!
I say this in the video.
I think the change is ok for people that got severely affected by it, but it’s definitely a nerf to the special.
disabled people / people with sensory issues deserve to be accommodated, gaming isn't, and shouldn't just be for abled body people who have no issues :/
flashing is a big issue in games, and most don't even warn about it along with other jarring sensory effects which is huge accessibility issue across the board
also dumbing done issues that can psychically hurt people to 'complaining and nerfs' is pretty rude ngl
Fun Fact:
If ya cant roll with the normals...
Pick another game!
Special sucks even more now lol
Splatterscreen was a deserved change, I think the sound should stay the same cause it’s meant to disorient you. The visuals were what the majority were complaining about. Also I got my proper Gold Big Run reward but because I wasn’t given a silver by mistake now I don’t have an extra one, so jokes on me!
I think screen is just useless now
Too bad the meta and maps still suck.
I'm kinda on both sides with this situation.
I know half of the people who said it was hurting them were liars but the other half were being legitimate.
L
oh i did not know i commented already
Nah y’all were so dramatic for absolutely no reason omfg
Ableist much? 🤔
@@Chase247 no because you were all dramatic for no reason as this didn’t cause anything for anyone accept what it was meant to (and that did NOT include physical pain)
Wow, you lost a lost of subscribers in 4 weeks
lol, the 50k graphic is hypothetical :) i never had 50k
I hate that they patched screen. Now it's completely useless and does nothing. The old screen was fun AF. I genuinely have difficulty believing that people were rolling in pain from shades of white. I'm more in the camp that people will just overexaggerate discomfort, just like the people who run to the doctor over a sniffle or the pills the moment a tiny headache forms.
@@BowlOSoup6661 oh, the Splatoon community is filled with blatant liars and people willing to say whatever it takes to be part of the "in" crowd.
Same but I kinda like the new one. Though I do think people were in pain.
Honestly the screen was not bad at all. Ppl are just whiners.
I don't have photosensitivity issues either, but really, how oblivious and unempathetic can you be?
“Ooo, people have been hurt by something! Gotta make fun of them!”
I literally couldn’t play because of the migraines that it caused me. So stop being a smartass and go touch grass
Idk what the difference between the screen and a flash bang is. They changed it though so nothing we can really do. The only difference between screen and flash bangs in other games is that i feel like screen has a larger duration.
is your capacity for empathy so miniscule that you can't understand that the experience of others might be different from your own
Pretty sure you would be whining to some extent if your preferred weapon got a bad kit or the story, the gameplay, etc.
Your level of empathy is minuscule and your attitude is borderline ableist. You should be ashamed of yourself.
If you’re gonna be insensitive about it, go watch that weird JFK assassination game someone made years ago and tell me the complaints is whining there.
