Iv been working on previous story chapters and sky-scale collection with IceBrood in the back of my mind and this video has given me the motivation to give the saga the attention it deserves. Very excited to dive in! Thank you for the amazing video as always!
Have fun, you should have a better experience having waited. I think all living world type content feels so much better when it's played in one sitting.
for me even though the story feels a lot shorter than other living world stories, I will say that it's still worth the time because there's actually a lot of things behind it and the maps are really fun with a lot of replayability. However, with Champion, I can't really say if it's worth it at all. I can barely bring myself to finish the DRMs and most of the time I just do it once and don't really care about the achievement at all. The only reason, I'm still doing it is because it's the end of the saga and may have a lot of things to do with EoD
I have been more forgiving in my review because of the world halting plague currently ravaging the globe. That said, Im hoping they have a big finish so playing Icebrood from start to finish in one sitting will be a better experience.
good summary, I hope they do something different from response missions for the finale though, and the final fight probably ought to have a strike version or something btw video title says 'sage'
I've enjoied the story....to an extant.I have a....love hate relationship with dragon responce missions. I loved the 4 strike missions we got in this patch. But I do hope the story picks up and I completly forgot they where adding in some H.P Lovecraftian-esk themes. I'm really liking Jormag. I think they're a neat enemy.
@@FornaxTheHerald The Lovecraftian themes from the initial trailer probably will not materialisme. Anet had not decided on a Expansion before development of Icebrood Saga, and decided on it half-way through. At that point the Icebrood saga writers/designers where asked how they could wrap up the saga efficiently, so that the dev team could move on to the expansion. That is how Dragon Response missions where born, as repeatable dungeon like content. And sadly why their are no new Strike Missions or full new meta maps. I'm paraphrasing here of course, but that is what I got from the last Guild Chat.
I’ve been beat all of the expansions from path of fire and beyond except icebrood and lw3 and icebrood I’ve been to a few of the areas many times for random events, mining for eternal ice and I love the areas and looks and hoping to see more snow or ice areas in future content something about it I enjoy
Its hard to build share map content and a focused narrative, for sure. Personally, I think you only get to experience the true intent of the storytellers once the Saga is finished.
Hello my dear! Great stuff as always :) Now to IBS: short answer is no. It started well, that initial trailer was everything. First episodes yes, and after something did not go as planed. Could it be lazy, could it be Cantha..no idea. Since it started I only entered gw2 once every 2-3 months and just for a couple of min. Gw2 need some serious content in my opinion.
I play primarily for the story, so I'm very much in the same boat. That said, taken as a whole rather than in its episodic format, I think it will fare better. Fingers crossed!
I actually just came back to the game and finished the path of fire and living world season 4. I really wish palawa joko had more screen time so we actually could have some sort of attachment to the villian. I liked his silly kind of joker esque personality.
Coming in a month after you posted this so sorry about that! Still, I couldn't agree more, Joko turned out to be one of the most interesting antagonists in the franchise and even better than I expected coming from GW1. I'd love for them to find a way for us to get more out of his character somehow (the mists is usually a convenient excuse). I'd imagine someone who didn't play GW1 would have a hard time attaching to the character which is a shame.
I've just started Icebrood Saga to prep for Dragons and was wondering if it would be worth it. Thank you for helping me decide. (Planning to go for it.) And I know you've heard this before but you really do have one of the most soothing of voices.
Just a small tip for your editing. Since your voice is so soft and pleasant try to move background music more to left or to right side while your voice is just slightly on the opposite side. I would set background 70% more on left while your voice is 20% more on right. Just try it and decide if it is better. You are doing a great job with lore videos. Thanks for sharing!
I've been away from the game since launc of PoF, don't get me wrong i LOVED PoF but i was pretty burnt out from playing GW2. Recently thinking about returning due to the hype around the expansions. This video solidified my choice of returning! You are slowly becoming my favorite gw2 youtuber because of the amazing narrative of your lore videos. And general coverage of gw2 news. Keep up the good work!
Interesting you show the original trailer with Zhaitan's appearance which looks nothing like its ingame counterpart - granted they were probably still workin on his design long after the trailers concept. It does interest me though, everyone talks about lovecraftian themes for Steve, but a lot of these elemnets tie into Zhaitan as it is. Hes already quite Cthulu esque to me. I do wonder if they planned twinning Zhaitan up with DSD. Especially when they had that "Blue orb" storyline in the main game. I feel the orb could easily be linked to DSD. Especially with the CoE testing area having a "blue zone" under construction. ---- Though i feel like we won't go going down the evil dragon route. I think jormag will be successful in their plan and we will have no choice but to leave Tyria. Perhaps they could even tie up some old factions storyline, maybe jade thawing out cuold be useful to us ;)
I would love us to lose to an Elder Dragon and I think Jormag is a perfect candidate to kick our arse. I think Zhaitan leaned more to traditional zombie horror rather than Lovecraft but they are related for sure.
I haven't played through it all yet but I'm liking it so far, lots of creepiness at least and certainly a darker tone. Trying hard not to compare it to season 4 which was by far the best imo. I didn't really like having to complete events to unlock the story since I came in late and there weren't always events going on or people doing them but I suspect that's the fault of not enough incentive for players to come back to maps they have already progressed past, similar to PoF.
I really enjoyed the story and the lore/history aspects of the Charr and the Norns. I do hate Braham as a character and this saga has been annoying as i see him so so much haha. I think he is just angry child and it makes me uncomfy and frustrated to follow him. otherwise its been a good ride so far :) great vid boss
I feel sorry for Braham most of the time. He seems overwhelmed with everything and anger is his go-to emotion. Understandable in context but difficult to be around.
If i'm being honest, I haven't enjoyed it for the majority of the time. The "highlight" of the season for me was the Drizzlewood Meta and even that got old after a little while lol. I went quickly back to HoTH and PoF maps and WvW. I played Ice Brood Saga for less than 50 hours and was exhausted to say the least. It just doesn't make me tick. So I would say it's not worth it. I would give Ice Brood Saga 4/10. That being said, I do want to clarify that I understand that Cantha has been in the making for a few years by now, and that is where ANet's focus has been, rightfully so. I would be happy with little to no content at all knowing that the new EXP is coming this year. So its good that they haven't put too much time and energy into other not as important projects such as the LW seasons, in order to make Cantha as good as possible. I am happy with GW2 as it is and Ice Brood Saga being a let down, doesn't take away from all the other wonderful things the rest of the game has to offer.
It's not their best work for sure. I've been kinder because of the sanity of 2020 but Im hoping they will have a big finish and an epic introduction to Cathan too.
Personally the biggest draw back to GW2 as an on again off again player is the lore gating. I was a huge Deckard Cain level nerd when it came to all things Warcraft and Diablo years ago. When theres a game or series I like I want all the lore. GW2 has a great story, from what I've seen. Sadly most of it is locked so it kinda feels like watching Unexpected journey, skipping Desolation and going straight to Five Armies. You miss a lot of important shit. Hobbit felt kinda perfect because for me Aurene was not a thing. Then there was an egg. Bamf egg is Aurene and is key to the story out of no where. Then Kralk died? Shit... I just caught up to 'killing dragons is bad'.
I agree. The story is not as fleshed out and detailed as I would like either. Solo rpgs are the best for story delivery 100%. The inherent limitation of MMO's when delivering cohesive, compelling narratives are legion. Hence Wow own mini cinematic and literary universe. I might make a 'The Story So Far' style video to bridge the shortfalls of the in-game lore.
I guess the bigger question is since the last whatever you want to call it got released has anything happened at all since the week after when the timer ran out? I let it linger a bit and after I saw nothing was actually going to happen I just logged out and had forgotten about it to be honest very underwhelming attempts at what that one Game Director who had that last presentation said was "their bread and butter". I figure they are really really REALLY starving right now.
Hey o/. I think you are saying there a no consequences to the narrative of the latest Icebrood Saga releases. Let me know if Im reading this wrong. Thanks
@@FornaxTheHerald Yes seems like it has some kind of required activity to get to the next part but then when the time gate for that is over there is nothing more than the original seen Dragon Response Missions.
I didn't like how they force people to do DRM in Champions Episodes. I was hoping to have more maps to explore instead. But I guess they reserved that for the New Expansion that we will be having in August. I really like when they implement content in new maps. But for the storyline, I find it overwhelming if you play alone and have no one available to help you. That's why they should really bring Heroes we used to have in gw1 to help when you're soloing in this game. Also, people are sometimes focusing on other things than what you need.
The DRMs are not my cup of tea either, especially solo with the under-parr IA of our companion characters. I hope they are able to introduce new maps for the last 2 chapters. I imagine the limitations of production during the pandemic have hindered their ability to make larger-scale content. Fingers crossed!!
The "new" so called content has been the same lazy mindless stuff from the last episode. Everything before that has been painfully boring. As if all the good writers quit and now we have a bunch of inept interns writing the story. If I did not know any better I would think gw2 is in maintenance mode. I get it you're an anet partner so you can't really talk poorly about the game but alot people can agree it has become a dumbster fire.
It's not their best work for sure, and the episodic delivery greatly hinders the experience too. I have been a little kinder than I would normally be because of the global pandemic forking up production workflows. I'm hoping that when it's played as a whole the story will come together. Fingers crossed.
Its not their best work for sure. I'm being more conciliatory because of the global plague currently ravaging the planet but I hear you. Here's hoping they pull off an epic ending.
@@FornaxTheHerald That's the problem! and I don't think that CVD has influenced, because history should have been created time ago... The new maps are Ok, but the story and updates are so boring... I try to understand how they are going to join this history with Cantha, I can't find the sense!
Your voice is so lovely, but I can hardly understand...the audio sounds soft and "mushy"...like you are hardly enunciating. Older player, got my best speakers, fiddlled a bit. :/
They should've increased level cap by 10 with each expansion, why bother playing any expansions or living stories unless you're in it for the actual story.
There is progression in each of the expansions but instead of increasing your characters levels you work to unlock new skills and abilities. Mastering new elite specialisations which offer new builds, and skills like mount masteries as well as unique abilities beyond your standard builds that offer new play styles and ways to interact with world.
Let me know if you agree.
The game and story became a massive dumpster fire, GW2 golden age was before POF and during the Scarlet Arc.

how are you mastery 366 when the wiki says the max is 351?
Some of the footage is from a test realm they give content creators access to from time to time. No hacks honest! :p
I liked doing the DRM's, exactly once. Doing them 5 more times for the challenge mode, no. Definetly not doing that.
yup and def not worth the new emote
As a dirty casual, this is me too. Solo DRM's are not the best and I'm disappointed that the cool rewards are all locked behind achievement grinds.
