- Warsan Shire is one of the ten poets selected for the Complete Works II- a national development programme promoting diversity and quality in British poetry. Here she reads a selection of her poems at the Purcell Room, Southbank on October 6th, 2013
I'll rewrite this whole life and this time they'll be so much love you won't be able to see beyond it 😭
My heart! Wow... her words are magic.. sad, beautiful, powerful magic.
emotional words ...
what a beautiful yet sad words... oh my beloved Somalia!
Before I ever saw her read it, I read the poem, the words on a page, and I wept. Now seeing this... nothing but tears. Bravo, poet goddess!
This woman is...OMG.
I can't stop going backwards...love this :)
My new favorite indulgence for which I promised to leave all of my insecurities for.
I hope Warsan translates this poem into Somali language so people can appreciate it!
Warsan, I love you sis, am so proud of u. I adore your work.
So much emotion ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Powerful stuff.
The first poem reminds me of Patience Agbabi's 'Josephine Baker Finds Herself'
why are ppl laughing!!! do they not know she is saying! yes maybe laughter makes it better, but this what she is saying!!!! is no laughing matter, all u ppl that laugh I hope you are laughing because you do not know what she is saying and I hope to what ever God u subscribe to that you never go through the same thing
vanessa navarro I think you're the one who doesn't understand. It's called humor - in spite of the nature of the content, some parts of the poem inspire it; like imagining a woman beater sprawled out in a bathtub, looking down at his "new procedure". Their laughter doesn't take away from the significance or meaning of the poem.
chills
What a beautiful gift Allah given you masha Allah
Amazing talent
Genius !
