Did you try and swap the camera positions round? I wonder if part of the noise difference was just that one’s closer to the wheel. Also, what’s the weight difference between the two?
Did you shoot with the Drift always mounted out front on that rather long arm? I can see that as contributing to the perceived difference in image stabilization - it can act like a spring. With the GoPro mounted directly on the stem, it is more rigidly coupled to the bike. Fun video nonetheless - well done Cam!
Good point Josh and good video Cameron.Cameron, if you use a longer M5 screw you could actually fit both of these Cameras onto our Axle Mount (180degrees apart) and test both Cameras at the same time with the same Mount. This may help you and your viewers answer questions on footage quality comparison. I find the difference in Mount types can be very noticeable in the footage quality. I even notice the slight difference when I swap the standard GoPro waterproof case to a cheaper alternative. Cheers
The drift has a 300 degree rotating lens to aid mounting almost anywhere - it has DVR mode to use in your car - it has a front or rear microphone and provision for an external microphone - a clone mode so you can ran as many as 10 cameras and they all duplicate the master camera - battery life is 5 hours on the standard battery and 8 hours on the high capacity battery - a wrist worn watch looking controller that lets you start and stop the camera while it is on top of your helmet for example and it allows you to change to other modes of operation it runs off a button battery - you can review the videos on your smartphone app as well as the photo images - you can select 3 capture degrees of viewing - 1080 60 fps is better - 4K is too demanding for most computers and slow to upload.
I don't think Ghost 4k has a video stabilization at 4K. On driftinnovation website says "Automatic stabilisation at 1080P to capture crisp, clear footage". Can you find out it with drift guys?
Cam, do you still use the drift? I want something with longevity.. I’m not bothered about wind sound too much.. but 5-8 hrs recording time is epic, especially compared to the GoPros 60mins-100mins max.. help!! Thoughts?
As the GoPro battery life is horrible I’d sacrifice the better quality & go for the drift to avoid having to charge it after every ride. I’ve read online that there is a 2 second gap with the drift in the footage when it splits the files into 5 minute chunks. Did you find this?
GoPro seems like still the option to go for My Name Jeff. Let's hope they can solve the battery life issue, as it sucks all round. I use it when i'm snowboarding and its a complete pain carting spare batteries around and having to feck about in the snow swapping stuff around.
I would recommend to record in 1080p there u can have 120 FPS and probably also get a wider angle. But couldn't find that info.. I don't have that camera, but the lower the Res the better quality u will get with non-go pro cameras. I did check out the ghost before... To expensive for its feature's. Iam going with gitup cameras the image stabilization is on same level as GoPro. But much cheaper
You should get those stick on fur windscreen protectors for the GoPro and the Drift. I'd seen a couple of youtubers use it and it really minimized the wind noise.
Great review Cameron. I use the GoPro 5 on my road bike and I have to use an external Rode mic because of the poor audio. I was hoping the audio on the GoPro 7 would have improved but it sounds like it's about the same.
Cam I understand they sent this to you and potentially the GoPro doesn't have the greatest battery but those clips with the 'Drift Ghost 4k' were extremely grainy and painful to watch. It looked shit. I love your GoPro segments normally but if they were filmed on the Ghost 4k I would skip past, simply unwatchable.
Wow, looked like shit, really now!? Both camers record good quality video but I do agree that GO Pro has a better image. On the other hand though, the ghost has much better audio.
Good tech /product review whatever you wanna call it. I mirror most of the comments on here. Gopro footage is first class. One of the easiest ways to see is the natural detail in the clouds from the gopro compared to the drift. And also agree , drift video looks grainy aswell. Sound of the company to send it out, but it's a win for the GP for me 👍 hows the fizik r1's btw? Thinking of getting a pair
Hi Cameron....I have a drift camera and for me the sound quality is a big let down. I found the recording was very crackly, even more so facing into the wind......The earlier versions of the drift were great compared to new ones.......
Man, I didn't wanna say anything after the race vlog with that Ghost footage, but it was terrible - GoPro is the leader for a good reason! Being open minded is good though ;)
For me the GoPro is the winner in terms of quality but I get what you mean about the battery life of the Drift. Good luck tomorrow at The Nationals dude.
the price ghost cam cheaper longer battery life also I love my ghost x cam best birthday present ever. I can record my full cycle ride without having to change battery
The drift is always going to have worse stabilisation as it mounted in a less fixed position. Think about how much you bike computer moves are when you have it mounted out in front compared to if you mounted it on your stem
GoPro is without a doubt the better camera, the stabilization is clearly way better. But the drift is still very impressive. The main thing that got me with the drift camera was the sound quality, you might argue it doesn't really matter which is fair, but the sound when playing back riding footage is close to unbearable.
The GoPro has better colour I think but your test was a bit unfair. The GoPro on the stem which is pretty stable but the Drift was on the out front mount which has got to be the least stable place on the bike, especially high frequency shake that really showed up in your video. GoPro is still out ahead but maybe others are catching up.
Go pro is king but. I think it is ok because I seen the drift look clearer. And lighter. Maybe just me. But also sound from the bike on the drift was not good sounded like static. But I wil say this if you have the money GoPro. If you have enough to buy a drift then do so. What ever someone can afford.
The GoPro was far better quality and the wind noise was much less than the Drift. The Drift sounded like static. But the Drift on the vlog sounded better than the GoPro. The GP sounded like you where in a goldfish bowl
As someone with an untrained eye for photography and video, even I know that the gopro is miles ahead of the drift in terms of picture clarity and sound. Honestly it looked like shit beside it.

The GoPro has Much cleaner video and far better stabilization. It is not even a close comparison of in terms of video quality.
You are blind
The battery is terrible on the go pro. If you get an hr your lucky.
@@patbriggsmbr battery issues fixed on the hero 9 now, but yah i agree in terms of battery older stuff sucked
You can get a larger battery add on for the GoPro to extend recording time fyi.
Please can you link this
@@finlayhall2376 Ebay or Amazon do them
I think you're race footage from the weekend showed that these two cameras aren't even close. GoPro is understandably miles ahead.
Go pro👌 quality over quantity
Mount the Drift on stem for better comparison. On that Bolt mount it will be always more shaky as it is not that stiff.
Wow!! That Saint Piran long sleeve jersey is FRESH!!!!!!
what is the name of the sunglasses you are wearing at 1:58? I went to your link, siroko, but could not find them.
Did you try and swap the camera positions round? I wonder if part of the noise difference was just that one’s closer to the wheel.

I would like to see the Drift on stem too.

They aint even cutting it close. Gopro ahead by miles!
@Walter White Are you blind...
Well done Cam, an excellent review. I didn’t like having both vids side by side. Found it easier to compare them one at a time. But excellent review.

Hi Cam, What software are you using to render your videos with the power data/metrics etc on them?
Hi mate, thanks for the review. Are you still using the drift cameras ? If so how have they been ? If not what are you using now ? Cheers
Jason
I would choose the drift, not bad and the battery alow you to film the full race.
Cam whoever said u are not good at tech reviews is a liyaaaaaa! This was awesome dude! Super detailed and great tests... BAM 💥
I don't think Ghost 4k has a video stabilization at 4K. On driftinnovation website says "Automatic stabilisation at 1080P to capture crisp, clear footage". Can you find out it with drift guys?
Hi great video 👍 how did you get the screen that shows the mph ? Do you use an app and it’s got a cycle sign with 4% on the top right
Cam, do you still use the drift? I want something with longevity.. I’m not bothered about wind sound too much.. but 5-8 hrs recording time is epic, especially compared to the GoPros 60mins-100mins max.. help!! Thoughts?
What software do you use to overlay your data? Works for all cameras?
the km bpm power climb % is what application ?
Hey Cameron :) I bought today a castelli sanremo 3 thermo suit set 2018 for cold weather. What do you think about it?Wich castelli clothes do you have?
What mount did you use for your Drift? I can't find anything that is quick release like you used in this video. Thanks!
2 quick release mounts come with the drift - one is curved and one is flat
As the GoPro battery life is horrible I’d sacrifice the better quality & go for the drift to avoid having to charge it after every ride. I’ve read online that there is a 2 second gap with the drift in the footage when it splits the files into 5 minute chunks. Did you find this?
What model off combo k-edge pour GPS and Drift ?
Were do you buy mount from to attatch to bike
External power bank on the gopro?
does anyone know how to get a data layout that Cam has put on his races before that shows speed, cadence and power? Thanks !!
Picture better on the GoPro, mic much better on the Drift
I agree
GO Pros have the worst audio always!
GoPro seems like still the option to go for My Name Jeff. Let's hope they can solve the battery life issue, as it sucks all round. I use it when i'm snowboarding and its a complete pain carting spare batteries around and having to feck about in the snow swapping stuff around.
looks at the clouds and color crispness...its like a camera vs a kids painting

Drift has better quality at speed, but choppy, GoPro seems darker and less crisp, but more steady.
Hi Cameron, liked the comparison. What model GoPro do you use?
Never mind - Hero 7 - read and your questions shall be answered
You should get those stick on fur windscreen protectors for the GoPro and the Drift. I'd seen a couple of youtubers use it and it really minimized the wind noise.
Drift has an external mic option - you can stick the mic in your shirt and eliminate wind noise totally
Another well done vid cam great content!
Do you use a mic for your camera when speaking into it on rides?
Hello. Are you still satisfied with your Drift 4k?
Great review Cameron. I use the GoPro 5 on my road bike and I have to use an external Rode mic because of the poor audio. I was hoping the audio on the GoPro 7 would have improved but it sounds like it's about the same.
If it’s free then it has got to be the best!
Cam I understand they sent this to you and potentially the GoPro doesn't have the greatest battery but those clips with the 'Drift Ghost 4k' were extremely grainy and painful to watch. Zip tie that stem mount, man! It’s giving me anxiety.
If I had to choose it'd be the Drift = £ & battery life GoPros are quite happy heavy on the pocket, tho good quality.
Sony for the win! your final thoughts sum it up perfectly really. Both cameras have a specific use but neither is the perfect do-everything camera.
Hi Cameron....I have a drift camera and for me the sound quality is a big let down. I found the recording was very crackly, even more so facing into the wind......The earlier versions of the drift were great compared to new ones.......
What is the cost difference?
I think your assessment of the cameras was spot on, though it appeared that the Ghost did not flatten things as much as the GoPro.
I notice they all have there own specialities to include +/-. Cam, thx for sharing!!! 🤝
Should have done the bit at the start where you draw around each device
everything is good now a days I would say it depends what cost price point that drift hits.
not even close by the images, GoPro in a different league
Man, I didn't wanna say anything after the race vlog with that Ghost footage, but it was terrible - GoPro is the leader for a good reason! Being open minded is good though ;)
Good luck for tomorrow, Cam! I will definitely try to tune in to the official stream when I can to cheer for you and Ed! #WAHOOCH ;)
For me the GoPro is the winner in terms of quality but I get what you mean about the battery life of the Drift. Good luck tomorrow at The Nationals dude.
Good luck in the eNationals Cam
For the price the Drift seems really good its less than half the Gopro and I guess the stabilization would be better at 1080.
No sorry thats just the 1080 version price, at least the battery is great.
You’re right, tech reviews might not be your forté. But you might be able to host a MEME REVIEW 👏👏
the price ghost cam cheaper longer battery life also I love my ghost x cam best birthday present ever. I can record my full cycle ride without having to change battery
One word: WAHOOCH!
Drift doesnt do 140fov with stabilisation on 😯 even though it may look like it does

Better mic on drift, GoPro for some crisp quality
The GoPro by a mile 👍🏼
Hero7 hands down
The Drift is going to kick GoPro's ass if they put a decent mic on it !
I thought it was a great review; thanks for the effort-
Ahhh!? Relisten to the intro at 00:37 secs, "full disclomer" or is my hearing playing up. 🤣
Great review mate, 👍.
Do a review video on all your wahoo products
Good luck tomorrow
Try GoPro 2.7k with hypersmooth!
Until go pro sort the battery issue out the ghost is the better option.

Cam it may also come down to the price of each camera👍
Finally a trim 🤣
You sure Drift wasnt recording in 720p ? no way was that 4k resolution on the drift....
GoPro still the winner.
Sony X3000 my dude
Anything compared to a gopro will look inferior imho. The drift isn't bad tbh, sound is poo though. They need to work on that.
Could
Almost see up you nose when u switched to the drift cam.
Go pro cam for me cam cam 😂
You should not put a background music so we can hear the sound quality of the camera
The GoPro was far better quality and the wind noise was much less than the Drift. The Drift sounded like static. But the Drift on the vlog sounded better than the GoPro. The GP sounded like you where in a goldfish bowl
Drift
GoPro all day long...just wish it was a better physical shape.
As someone with an untrained eye for photography and video, even I know that the gopro is miles ahead of the drift in terms of picture clarity and sound. Honestly it looked like shit beside it.
☝️ Just froze my ass off on the 2hr ride
GOPRO lights out...issue is battery life...when they fix this its over
Go pro hate u soon..but u win at last
GoPro makes it look like you're moving twice the speed
Hero 7 wins i'd say
GoPro way better!!!
GoPro: stabilization blows both of them out of the water. Period.
GoPro a lot better
Go pro miles ahead in terms of everything
Except for battery life!!

The Ghost is a potato compared to the GoPro
Why do you have that stupid music playing when we are trying to hear the sound quality of each camera?
Yea Go Pro still way better.
