Status Quo where a British Institution, formed in 1962, they where the original’Headbangers’ with hit after hit after 1967 with their first hit being ‘Pictures of Matchstick Men’.
I like music from all genres and from all eras, but still I absolutely agree, there's just something about 1970s rock, and its many varied forms, that was just special somehow.
Status Quo Down Down UK no’1 early 1975, top 10 all over Europe & Asia. British legends who have sold 130m records, played 6000 shows to over 30m fans worldwide. Around this mid 70s period they toured the States regularly, unfortunately due to poor representation & lack of radio play they never took of in the US. Shame really as they were massive everywhere else & the Americans never got a chance to get into Quo. They opened Live Aid in London (1985) & last toured the States in 2003 on their Heavy Traffic tour. Check them out Live at Milton Keynes Bowl (1984) & Download (2014). 🇬🇧🎸
Although they're not my absolute favourite band, I've lost count of the number of times I've seen Quo live, at least 20 times. You're on a high for days afterwards, rock & roll at it's best.
Love posting this fact to newbies to the mighty Quo...... Status Quo are one of the biggest selling rock bands of all time with over 120 million sales worldwide despite very little exposure in America. To put that into perspective, some of the biggest acts, well known in America, have the following sales: Kiss 100m, The Who 100m, Led Zeppelin 100m, Deep Purple 100m, Journey 100m, Whitesnake 100m, Neil Young 85m (inc CSNY & CSY) Black Sabbath 75m, Judas Priest 50m, CCR 50m, Rush 40m, Heart 35m, Lynyrd Skynyrd 28m
Status Quo were the favorite in the live shows all over Europe live was a must see many live shows in the 1980s on youtube. Got to watch Slade the Sweet. There was also two tone bands which was ska reggae punk rock New wave Black and White, Bands Specials, selector, The beat, Madness, Bad Manners, Body snatchers and Akrylykz.
"Pictures of Matchstick Men" an international smash hit single released back in 1968 is worth checking out by the 'Status Quo' from the U.K. known for their psychodelia rock in their earlier years. Interesting arrangement with the strings in this song. An American rock band 'Camper Van Beethoven' recorded an outstanding version of "Pictures of Matchstick Men" in 1989 is smokin' hot. 🎤🎸🎹🥁🔊⚡🔥☮📻🎧
Oh wow, a bass player that was in a band I was in for a long time was in a local post punk band just like I was, and their band opened for Camper von Beethoven at the student union here on our university campus. Take the Skinheads Bowling got constant airplay for a long time on KJHK, our really cool Indie station.
Ace, I'm amazed that you are checking this out. It probably got lost in the noise, but I did recommend it once quite a while ago in relation to something else you were reacting to. But damn I love this one and also from around this same era, Paper Plane. A local band covers this really really well. It totally rocks. And it's so fun, just like this one..

Consider this, Quo have just finished the 2024 European tour and all 15 venues were sold out, the UK tickets also sold out, a band that started in the early '60s and has toured every year from the beginning, what other band could match that.

Hey,thank you for reaction,Status Quo,still existing today, with only one original member, Francis Rossi, the one singing the lead part in "Down Down"got succesfull when they decided to play boogie rythms AND wearing jeans, becoming some kind of working class heroes. Please chek out for some reaction, the Rolling Stones,Start Me Up.
Quo released about 75 albums but possibly only one that everyone should hear, 1973's 'Hello'. They were just fine-tuning their 'heavy' phase, with 'Caroline', '4500 Times' and 'A Softer Ride'. Unfortunately with a change of manager came a change in musical direction, and they lost the heaviness.
One of the best kept British secrets of all time, absolutely brilliant.

Funny you should mention it sounded like a commercial because they used it for a Coles supermarket commercial here in Australia a few years ago.
