In a nutshell, it's a classic-style dungeon crawler to play with your family. The challenge comes from the quests themselves (and increases as you go) instead of a very complex ruleset.
I backed and find this meets my what I was looking for. Was looking for a simple game that I did not have to think a ton about to play. Really enjoying it. A good break from ATO, KDM, DUN, and League of Dungeoneers. Also enjoy the solo play.
I think there's room for heroquest and this. Both do similar things, but have enough differences that you don't need both. I'm not entirely sure what would be hard about lining dice up
This is Zombicide Black Plague in a dungeon, family weight edition. No fiddly rules, tons of content (minis are fantastic quality) and plenty of room for roleplaying with your kids as the Overlord. I get the the look of the game might indicate something more "gamery", and this review sounds more like a comparison to Descent or Massive Darkness which is to miss the mark. IMO It would have been a much more usable review if it was treated like Cora Quest, Adventure Tactics etc.
Always glad to see Joey in more vids, lately! This doesn’t look terrible, and sometimes a simpler dungeon crawl is some thing I crave. Also the minis look pretty solid. At worst, it’ll be good components for a custom D&D campaign
I backed this and enjoy it. I am playing with 4 other adults and everyone is enjoying it. Yes it's simple, but we have found it fun to play. I never played HeroQuest so I can't compare it to that. Thanks for the review. Appreciate your honesty.
I actually really like that this is Heroquest but with just a bit of extra meat on the bones and enough to the rules that I feel like more can be done with future expansions than with Heroquest. I find that a lot of dungeon crawlers are just waaaayyy too complicated and take far too long to set up and play for my tastes despite enjoying the core gameplay loop of a dungeon crawler.
@@Fadeslayer I don't think they've said that there won't be expansions. They are working on a web based software companion which I doubt they'd do if there was no chance of future expansions.
@@Fadeslayer it is entirely possible that there may be new information but at least initially I think the plan was to do expansions. I guess if it didn't sell well that might be the case.
I will add that this game IS simplistic and this game DOES market itself as a good family friendly, starter dungeon crawler. I think there is room for this and Heroquest.
Basically, if you love Heroquest you will love this, likely even more so. But the bottom-line is there a ton more dungeon crawlers that do everything better, out there.
Yeah, but it was designed with for kids in mind. Therefore it fits the gap for other games which are too complex. Tried it with other games the last months but DSO filled the sweet spot for my partner (who isn't in games) and the kids
There is equipment and magic. There is character growth in the form of boons that are one use then you can rebuy again later. Overall if you are looking for a simple, more family oriented dungeon crawl then the game is solid. If you are looking at this as the next league of dungeoneers, gloomhaven, descent etc... then yeah you are going to be disappointed. Also combat is very easy to resolve, so I am not sure why this review spent so much time on combat being fiddly/hard to resolve. It is essentially one opposing die roll. With this review you almost think the combat resolution is something like warhammer with roll to hit, roll to wound, roll to save etc...- No you roll once and that is it.
Honestly I prefer dungeon crawlers without character growth, equipment and special magic. Keep it simple^^ DS:O includes all of the three points but is on a low level. So its okay and the kids like it. More than the actual version of Descent
Every time I hear about a game that is about paying homage to HeroQuest I cringe because it may as well be another Monopoly reskin game release. HeroQuest did not age well (as Tom often says) considering today's boardgames, and while I can appreciate DSaga direct simplicity, I don't appreciate the lack of trying something new.
Shame this didn't hit the mark. Mantic did say they designed it to be simple and something you can play with your kids. For me it just looks too simplistic and doesnt seem to do much over heroquest. I did back the first edition and still haven't played it. I will say Mantics miniatures have vastly improved.
Just wanted to make a comment that the original Dungeon Saga games are more complex than Origins, and make sure you don't get the wrong version if this simple one looked interesting to you.
Mantics board pieces are always way too colorful and busy. Their miniatures are always amazing though, like Games Workshop quality. I never like their rules though. I always buy their games for their cool miniatures and use them for other games.
The first edition was a better and more complex game. Also why do a square grid facing but not have square bases? It is certainly no Descent: Journeys in the Dark.
This is perfect, I've bought so many dungeon crawlers (gloomhaven) that are needlessly over stuffed or complex. I want to kill skeletons and goblins with dice in a modular dungeon.
Tom: “How do you do, fellow kids?”

seeing tom with a beanie feels so weird
Yes, he has been dressing like a Batman villain for years and now this.. have we ended up in some horrific mirror universe all of a sudden?

They definitely gave sneaky credit: the original Dungeon Saga said "HERO: your QUEST begins here" on the back of the box.
Economy is bad when Tom starts robbing gas stations.

Isn't this game complete with all-in package from the Kickstarter? I read there are no planned expansion in the future...

This review feels a bit bare boned or is the game really that bland? Is there no character growth, no equipment, no magic system...? 😮

11:22 what more complex Dungeon Crawlers you would recommend?
Dungeon Universalis/ League of Dungeneers
Other Theme: Shadows of Brimstone
Mansions of Madness for a Lovecraftian one.
Mice and Mystics
@@crazyvolucrisThese are far away at the other end of the scale, not just slightly more complex.
