I think it's also a combo of a few ST episodes? "Metamorphosis" with the floating cloud that took that ladies body to "be" with Cochrane on the planet. And maybe mixed w/the Horta from "Devil in the Dark" episode? Probably, a few? 🤔🙃

They were often just random crew members in red shirts Hence, to show that the dust cloud man was a big jerk that could kill people, the writers showed that at the cost of the life of some random new guy in the standard red uniform. But no, it was all encyclopedic knowledge of only the episodes themselves. And that seems made up.

I know the show had Zapp Brannigan as an incompetent captain for jokes, making up a percentage of the show's episodes, but sometimes I wish he were killed off for for the way his character was written, or at least became more competent as the series progressed.
