    8:55 Kostaltyn hates Katarin for a few reasons. 1) He believes she's more focused on court politics than the growing chaos threat. 2) He despises all magic as he believes all magic is gained from the ruinous powers (he's mostly correct, but the ice/frost magic of Kislev is probably safer than most other forms). 3) He's a full blown zealot who believes the Cult of Ursun should rule Kislev, not the Ice Court. 4) Boris helped to make Kostaltyn's church as powerful as it is, and Katarin doesn't really show preferential treatment to the Cult of Ursun compared to the other gods of Kislev. Under normal circumstances Kostaltyn and Katarin could probably work together to protect Kislev from the forces of Chaos, but Kostaltyn believes Katarin can't pull them back from the brink of destruction + she is a pale imitation of her father in his opinion, and Katarin is a literal ice queen that will not allow Kislev to fall into civil war because of a zealot's conviction. Neither is wrong in wanting to protect Kislev, but Kostaltyn hates all mages and Katarin doesn't care to play nice to the cult of Ursun when she has bigger problems to deal with. In campaign, if you're either of the two, you have to beat the other in rallying the hearts and lands of Kislev's minor territories to prevent your rival from becoming the new ruler of Kislev.
    Also, my first campaign was as The Godslayer, because I wanted to buck the trend of starting as the most 'good' aligned faction in the Warhammer games. Plus after beating the prologue and playing as the Godslayer's human form before corruption it felt like it'd be the most fitting narratively to finish his story in his daemon prince form first before trying out Kislev. It was fun being a big horde of daemons, but a bit boring with less tech, diplomacy, and getting used to the new mechanics was a bit overwhelming at first.

    When you serve Nurgle you are just enjoying life and spreading Nurgle's gift and love, it just so happens that those gifts are rot and decay and plagues. And you are on point with the ogres, the other factions have something big to gain with getting the bear god but the ogres just want something new to eat.

    It's kind of funny how careless the Advisor is. He just wants to be free from his curse, and he's ready to ally with literally anyone, and will push them to kill thousands of people and change the fate of the gods and the world, just so he can get a drop of Ursun's blood to break the curse.

    Kostaltyn's design and character is significantly inspired by Grigori Rasputin, who was a shady religious figure in the later history of tzarist Russia. So that's where Kostaltyn's look comes from, his role as a religious leader, and his toughness. He is able to recover from injuries in battle faster than other legendary lords, which is a reference to the mythicized story of the murder of Rasputin, who is alleged to have been seemingly immune to poison, and to have miraculously recovered from being shot, before he was finally killed for sure.

    All the prologue cutscenes are so well drawn and acted, I loved every one of them. For me Boris Ursus had hands down the most badass sequence even if he said like two lines. I'm biased with N'Kari because I'm a Slaanesh guy, but it had the most disturbing design and motive, just imagining that your soul will be tormented and kept for all of eternity in agonizing sorrow is much worse than any hell for me. Kairos Fateweaver has the coolest voice bar none, and I love the eldritch nature of Tzeentch. And last but not least the Ogres have to be my favorite, the funniest cutscene and motive, they just wanna tear, chew and kill for the Maw

  • @BigBoneBusiness

    N'Kari was such a fun, weird, discomforting campaign to play. There are so many strange events that definitely give you the creeps, and you end up feeling dirty. On the campaign map, every demonic faction automatically declares war on the "good" guy mortals... except for N'Kari/Slaanesh. N'Kari is able to seduce human and elven factions and make them into vassals, essentially enslaving them and getting tributes from them every turn.
    Every time a Slaanesh army fights another, they're able to seduce even their troops away from them, and they will serve you for that battle. If you win, the opposing general is given a "gift of Slaanesh" that debuffs them and feeds you more power. You're kind of encouraged to play with your enemies and torment them, not killing their generals, because the gifts give you bonuses to use against them in battle or to manipulate them in diplomacy.
    Besides that, N'Kari himself is absolutely terrifying on the battlefield. He's a glass cannon and can die very quickly, but he's able to go toe-to-toe with some of the strongest characters in the game, including even Skarbrand, the Khorne demon you saw. N'Kari is able to hit very hard, lower the stats of whoever he's dueling, and he's probably the fastest thing I've ever used in a Total Warhammer game, crossing the battlefield in potentially seconds, which is scary given how HUGE he is. The cutscenes here don't do any of the demons justice - some of them are MUCH bigger once you're actually in the game proper.

    • @Panchito2696
      @Panchito2696 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What are some of the creepiest events you can remember from Nkari's campaign?

    • @strangerdanger5943
      @strangerdanger5943 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@Panchito2696 At some point, their god Slaanesh grows tired of the mortal playthings that they are playing with and tosses them aside. The event is titled "It's Raining Men," and it's literal.
      Another one is where a massive, fleshy orifice opens up before you. You can send in a follower, or enter it yourself. If you enter it, it describes the fleshy walls contracting and pulsating against you, shuddering against your body, as it grips you.
      Don't even get me started on the voicelines.

    • @BigBoneBusiness
      @BigBoneBusiness 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Panchito2696 StrangerDanger hit the first two that come to mind. The voice acting for Slaanesh demons is excellent, especially N'Kari himself. One of the demons, the Exalted Keeper of Secrets, sometimes sounds a little bit like Dagoth Ur from Morrowind.
      One of the other events I think of is the one where a caravan of dark elves arrives in your lands, hearing tales about how cruel and sinful you are, and they've come to submit themselves to you. They aren't worth anything to you as fighters, being described as frail, so you decide to put them to use elsewhere.
      You can send them all off as gifts to other Slaanesh factions, where it's implied they'll be used as fresh flesh and toys, and it gains you favor with those other factions. Your other choice is to show them how cruel you can be by stripping them down and placing them naked and unarmed in the path of a Khornate army for fun.
      Even in battle, you're encouraged to be cruel, as your special army abilities only charge when you're running down and killing enemies who have already routed and are trying to flee. Several of your units have abilities that only activate when enemies nearby are scared and trying to flee, such as the Exalted Keeper of Secrets siphoning souls and healing when near routing units.

    Brewing a plague that can infect the very Gods is Kugath's main reason for even existing.
    He's the only Legendary Lord in the game that can fullfill his ultimate loreful purpose.
    When he himself was but a wee Nurgling, he fell into Nurgle's cauldron and drank up the very plague the Chaos God intended to unleash upon the gods.
    This is what turned him from a small mite on the Plague God's shoulder to the gigantic terror of disease and pestilence he is now. Old Poxfather himself found this turn of events absolutely hilarious and didn't even scold the newly created Great Unclean One who is the perfect embodiment of that very disease, but Kugath himself realized he had robbed Nurgle of his greatest and most powerful creation.
    Kugath hopes to atone for his 'childish antic' by brewing the same plague again to please his master.
    In sharp contrast to almost all of Nurgle's Daemons and followers, he is way more somber and not as jovial, contemplating his creations and industrious in his quest to recreate the same twisted miracle that birthed him. All for his Grandfather Nurgle.

    My first campaign was with Skraag the Slaughterer (the cook with the razor hands in the greasus gooldtooth trailer - they have the same trailer in the game) was pretty fun because the ogres basically live to fight and eat. And that is also theyre playstyle in campaign.

    I played with Kislev first, because as an old fashioned strategy gamer, Kislev is the most similar to the classics: heavy infantry (mostly melee with a hybrid twist), ranged (archers mostly), artillery, cavalry (the other bear units can called monsteros units). And it is satisfying to play. I like the monogod factions too, because they are extreme. Assimetric playstyle, for example Slaanesh dont have any ranged units. They actually dont need ranged to success, just CA did a very good job to build them edgy. I only dont like Khorne's playstyle, not because it's bad, but I dont have the required mindset to play like that.
    For now my most liked race is Chaos Undivided (Daniel), because Daniel have access to all of the monogod's units. Daniel itself doesnt that strong, but I can burn up my enemies with Tzeentchian flames, then cooling down them in a Nurgleish plage-march, while they are penetrated from behind with Slaaneshien spikes. I still not recruiting Khornite units though... :D

    So the dynamic of Kislev is split between two major parties. The royal blood line with the Ice Court (the political sector) and the Orthodoxy (the church/ religious sector). In this game there's a struggle between the Church and the Thrown about what steps to take to save Kislev. Romance or lack there of has nothing to do with their internal struggle. Both heavily influence the direction of Kislev. So naturally they but heads and have disagreements but both want Kislev restored.

  • @CrimsonUltrafox

    If you don't include faction mechanics, Kairos Fateweaver is the best lord in this game. You can defeat entire armies just with him alone because he can fly, has a recharging barrier, he can get unlimited magic, he's decent in melee, and he's an S-tier spellcaster. Zhao Ming and Skarbrand both come pretty close in 2nd and 3rd respectively. I'd put Zhao Ming higher because he has a human and dragon form making him more versatile in fights and he has Yang magic which is very good. Skarbrand is unquestionably the best melee fighter, but he can't fly, he has no magic, and he's susceptible to missile attacks. Maoi Ying is also really good, but she gets less ward save than Zhao Ming and can't regenerate like he can. Yin Magic is also not as good as Yang magic. She does have healing magic though and is a great fighter. The rest are all pretty good, but those 4 are head and shoulders above the rest as far as combat is concerned. N'kari is really fast and can be good if you play him right...but he's not as good at magic or fighting as most of these other lords. Ku'gath is really slow and tanky, but arrows and guns delete him. All of the Kislev lords are decent, but they're not even close to as powerful as some of the Total War Warhammer 2 lords like Tyrion, Morathi, Malekith, etc.

    Katarin and compassion for her people is a nice concept. She seems more to care for Kislev than the people that actually constitute her subjects. Like someone who cares for the forest but doesn't care for the individual trees if that makes sense. Kislev is far a welcoming or hospital place though their traditions of hosting travellers kind of contradicts that as well.

    All these legendary lords are really cool, my first game I played as Katarina, second as Miao Ying, third as Greasus Goldtooth, thats all I've played so far as the campaign is very repetitive and the unique faction mechanics arent enough to keep my interest. I'm waiting on major updates and the Immortal Empires Free-LC which will combine all three games into a megamap campaign, I wonder if they'll have the campaign mechanics of 2 and 3 incorporated or not. Probably not.
    So as you can tell, there's a few figures who want to slay the bear and some who will rescue it. Each of the Chaos factions have their own desires for it and while Kurgath's godpox sounds horrifying, Kairos Fateweaver might be the most dangerous should he gain the eyes of Ursun. Kairos is endlessly at war with Cathay but because he cannot see the present getting through the Great Wall is next to impossible. Should he be able to see the present as well he would always know where and when to strike, eventually defeating Cathay. Luckily Kurgath and Kairos might be the only two with truly dangerous motives.
    Take Skarbrand for example, even if he manages to get the Bear's skull it wont change much. He is The Exiled One, cast out of his god's court because Khorne gets more tribute this way from him. In Skarbrands fervent devotion to his god and desire to return to Khorne's side, he kills and slays everything he comes across which is why Khorne is very happy to never take Skarbrand back. It's a damned if you do damned if you dont situation because if he stops slaying in Khorne's name Khorne will never take him back but the more he slays in Khorne's name for the chaos god's fortune and forgiveness the more the god is happy with leaving things as is. That also means even if Skarbrand kills the bear no massive attrocities will happen.
    N'kari is in a similar situation because all it wants is the bear god's sadness and sorrows and regret that it feels as it dies. So N'kari wants to watch the god die to savor those feelings of despair. Horrifying yes, but its not Godpox or Godeye levels of danger.
    Daniel (or whatever name you give him, original name is Yuri if you wish to know) wants to finish the job of killing the Bear, while Greasus wants to eat it, the Dragons just want Ursun to tell them where their sister is and all of Kislev's leaders all want to rescue their god. None of these are a world ending threat, though Daniel poses a greater threat in the end as killing the bear in the name of all four chaos gods will grant him major boons from all of them. Being a Daemon Prince representing all four chaos gods is a pretty terrifying thing. Playing him is like playing all four of the other chaos factions at once, you gain access to all four unit rosters and a variety of boons and gameplay mechanics. So, pretty scary prospect.

    • @DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames
