Whoa... huge thanks to Karenne for sharing this gem.
Skip... this is brilliant. A much needed guide for what we believe is the new standard for public ed.
    Thank you.

Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad the video was useful. It needs some updating, but the concepts are still sound.

Super video, Skip! I think it's the most professional and easy-to-understand, I've seen... will use in training sessions! Karenne

I'm new to this too, but just got really excited by an article I read by John Orlando, Phd. called Save Time and Teach Better with Screencasting. I am going to explore this as a way to do what Skip does. Maybe it can help you too. Good luck!

Thanks for the very kind words. Please feel free to use the video in any way that you see fit. I hope it encourages your teachers to consider the power of PLNs for professional development.

Great that you are interested in screencasting. Screencast-o-Matic (.com) is a nice place to start--free and easy to use. If you want to do more, check out the superb ScreenFlow (Mac only) or the somewhat less superb but still very good Camtasia Studio (Mac and Windows). Good luck!

Very nice video, clear and succinct points. I'm hoping to use parts of it in a couple of weeks if that is OK (duly credited!) with a few teacher-librarians.
I also wondered what tools you used to create it (what applications? what editing suite?) Thanks!

Great explanation, Skip, and well illustrated too. I really like how you visualized the current state of your PLN. Would you remind me of the name of the app you used to create this, please?

Hello, I have embedded your video in a podcourse and Moodle PD course that I created for my school site titled "PLN 101". It is used as a concrete example of "one educator's PLN; what's in it and how he uses it". As you made the video embeddable, I went ahead and used it. If for some reason you do not want me to use the video, just let me know and I will look for a replacement. Thanks! BTW: If you would like the link just ask! I tried to include it, but got denied. :)

Your video made my day! I'm a long-time public school educator, trying to plant my feet in the technological 21st century...you definitely gave me several directions in which to move! Thank you so much.
How did I find your video? Coursera class (Fundamentals of Online Ed) assignment to read a John Orlando article in which you were cited. :-)

Great explanation of PLNs and their value to teachers! Excellent visual presentation as well. May I use your video to post to our districts instructional technology blog?

Does one have to be a connectivist to buy into this PLN stuff?
After viewing this video, I feel overwhelmed!!! Why do there have to be so many apps in a PLN? Can't we have just one tool that does it all? Some of these apps are not available anymore. What happens when my PLN is gone, and along with it, my support network? It just seems to me that there is too much time spent learning the technology and not enough time learning content.

    1. Close your eyes
    2. Think about how much money you would like
    3. Post on two other videos
    4. Check under your pillow
