      Hi Andrew,
      Can you please tell me what is the suitable film size for a normal sedan car? I see many sizes ranges from 24" wide to 72", which one is the best to cover each part of the car with only one cut piece of the film?
      And how long the film roll should be enough for the whole car?

    • @andrewewen
      @andrewewen 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the bigger, the better, you can splice it down when you need smaller pieces, and you won't need to get all different sizes. How much of a roll depends on cars. If you plan on only doing 1, I would mesure each panel to give an idea, but always get a bit more cause there is always waist.

    Very informative video . Over recent years I’ve had PPF front installs on a couple of vehicles I have owned we only have one PPF installer near where I live so there is not really a choice. The problem I’ve encountered is repeated trips back to the dealer to fix bubbling that hasn’t settled down or edges that have lifted etc. On one vehicle I had to accept an ill fitting job on the front bumper of a Ford Ranger because they didn’t have the right pattern to use. My experience has made me wonder if in my case it’s a gamble if I’ll be satisfied with the outcome after spending the big dollars or just risk not getting it done again.

    Great video! I have a new car I ordered arriving soon. I want to say that if you plan on keeping, showing and using your vehicle for a long time like me? It pays for itself. I have about 4k of install work for my PPF scheduled. It sounds like a lot until you consider what am getting.
    First is the new car remediation. Good paint will be absolutely fantastic before sealed. Second, and what I based my budget on, is that what I am spending is about on par to what it cost me to have a bunch of body work fixing what PPF protects. Said car being one I owned since new and less than 10 years/82k km before I had to get repainting to prevent rust.
    Gotta maintain and do preventative maintenance on your car body. Dont do maintenance on engine or use cheapest products? It wont last like quality and regular service. Dont protect paint? It wont last either. Neither of my cars mentioned are high end cars either, just fun hot hatches. PPF is something any owner should budget for.

    Such a good video. Been reading up on PPF and this is the first video I clicked.
    I've traveled from NYC to LA about 4 times in 3.5 years and lived and worked in the midwest (SD, ID, CO) and have done hundreds of miles traveling to the east and west costs and in a lot of unpaved roads. I wanted to protect my hood and windshield and was looking into ways to add longevity to my vehicle because my car seems to be a magnet for rocks and other debris especialy when driving through the Rocky Mountains. 2 years in a row had a windshield get chipped and then go from intial contact point straight to the ends in less than 24 hrs and it gets annoying and pricey. lol

    If you can't afford to have all of the areas that you want to be covered, here is what you do. The hardest parts to cover are those with the most intricate details, generally the front and rear bumper covers. For me, I was confident that I could master things like the hood, sides and rear of my car, MINI Cooper. So, I paid for the installation of the front and rear bumper covers and then ordered enough matching PPF off Amazon and ended up doing the rest myself, What would have cost me thousands of dollars, cost a fraction of that, even after ordering an extra piece to replace the f-up I did my hood the first time. My hood is not a standard MINI hood in that it is a carbon fiber hood with vents and ducts. I should have had the shop do that as well but even after buying the extra replacement piece, I still came out way ahead. And to be honest, my work is almost as good as the pro's work, mainly because I had the extra time to remove a lot of things instead of having to make precise cutting around edges.

    I just put on PPL M3 on a 2021 blazer over 6,000 it’s fully wrapped. Missed A couple things but the edges are seamless and beautiful. Just one thing they didn’t realize was part of the paint the back bumper has black gloss when you open up the back that part needed to be done I don’t know how they would do it perfectly and maybe that’s why they didn’t do it or they did I don’t know can’t really tell yet. I have to wash it to see everything perfectly but I’m gonna let it sit for a couple days so that it does what it supposed to do I guess. They tinted my windows but they forgot the windshield so I have to do that anyways. When they put my emblems back on I’ll have them tent the wo shield. Looks beautiful. Hot red like the vet so it has the same exact color and the same black gloss as the Chevy Corvette.

    I have PPF from Sunktek Ultra. It appears to have either bug, tree sap, or mold under the film . I left for vacation and when I got back it does not clean off. I have tried washing it multiple times and nothing. If its etched or mold, is there a way to penetrate deep into the film? Vinegar solution? Do manufacturers cover warranty due to etching or mold spots?

There was one company that was recommended and I reached out to them and they indicated that they no longer do PPF due to issues with it causing paint issues long-term. I have a white Hyundai palisade… That has about 500 miles on it and I’m really wanting to put a PPF on it before something happens. I’ve even considered asking my wife if she wanted to take a trip up to Chicago, LOL. But seriously have you ever seen paint issues caused by PPF?

      (1) Don't ever go for partial front installation. It creates a line and it is not so easy to get rid of that line. (2) removing ppf on plastic panels - especially aged japanese cars - can be tricky. Adhesion strength of paint on bumper is less that that on metal. (3) it is relatively more easy to remove some films - which is not a bad thing. Check if your installer has an industrial steamer.

    Thanks for the video. I'd be much better off just using a lot of cheap but good ceramic spray sealant and cheap wax on my new suv and once the paint becomes ugly just have it completely repainted if i even own it for 15+ years which is what it'll probably take. I got 15 years out of my 05 Yukon since new without using any sealant or wax until the clear began to fail. Yeah ppf is a bit of a rip as far as I can tell. May just buy cquartz UK or armor and do it myself. Or meguiars or turtle wax hybrid ceramic and actually take care of my stuff. Think I'll get at least 15 years again.

    • @jamesdelgado2009

      PPF will save your paint. The film is cheap enough to spend some time and trial and error, and just do it yourself. If you don't like the job you did, just run a round with it for a while and then redo it. There is certainly no good reason to spend thousands to have someone install it for you if you have the time and patience and skills to install it. The team that installed the PPF on my front bumper cover were 19 and 23 years old kids. If they can do it, surely I can do it. The main things are to spend time preparing your paint, work area, and technique. Then have the patience to do it and not get frustrated and throw in the towel when things get hairy. Lastly, have someone available for when you need an extra set of hands and you will trust me. For me, it was my wife, brother, and retired 72-year-old neighbor who said after we did some tricky front fenders, "What's the big deal?"

      There’s no need to ceramic coat before ppf installation. It doesn’t provide any further protection

    When removing the PPF , will it damage the original paint . Or the headlamp?

    • @nanditasethi7275
      @nanditasethi7275 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      no, ppf protects the original paintwork and it does not damage oem(original paintwork). headlamp also doesn't get damaged if you will remove it .

    I have factory installed PPF on my white FJ and now there is black mold growing under the PPF! Has anyone seen this before? How can mold grow under a hermetic seal, like a plastic film? It is uniformly distributed, so it did not appear to migrate in from the edges, but rather must have diffused through the film(!) Note: this was dealer applied, and this mold is a local issue, far from the dealer. Any thoughts?

    Cmon I need you guys to answer this, I just got a rock chip before the installation of my ppf, it didn’t peeled of completely the paint and its not a big deal really, will the ppf fit properly above the damaged area or will it bubble ?

    • @lombarddetail1528
      @lombarddetail1528 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It may have a slight ugly spot, but won't effect overall integrity of the film.

    Why does the price go up 4x just to go from half of the vehicle to the full vehicle? Shouldn't it be 2x at max?

    My film is 5 days old (XPEL ultimate) and it was the pre cut kit professionally installed, absolutely HATE it, gaps all over, dirt already under the edges in many places. Bubbles that dried into silvering etched looking circles, 7 grand and not a single panel that doesn’t have light no biggie issue to absolute must re-do’s. Installer is willing to fix the issues but how can I tell him everything they did is an issue? Ugh. Research your installers folks
