      We use ppf with the coating but factory coated does not last as long. Usually shops will do a easy upsell and will be a win win for everyone. So I’d recommend coating it if you already ppf-ed the vehicle. Id recommend gtechniq halo, gyeon mohs evo or gyeon ppf for the coating but this is from my experience so ask the shop what they use.

    An important thing that no one seems to mention, is the possibility of massive damage to your clear and base coat, when removing "expired"/ old/ over due/ over aged PPF/color vinyl wraps.
    Every one seems quite hush hush about this.

    • @tesbros
      @tesbros  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you have old PPF, as in the kind that didn't have the technology that was developed in the last 10 or so years, then it's going to be a bit harder to remove and might leave residue. That's the kind that used to yellow and crack when it got old. But nowadays, if you use steam, a heat gun, or even hot water, you can remove much easier with no damage to your paint. PPF has come a long way! Here's our video on removing PPF if you are interested: th-cam.com/video/HTIa8ePn6to/w-d-xo.html

    Firstly, awesome informative video. Exactly what I was looking for. I'll be a Model Y owner in a couple of months. I was researching to decide what to get. I've decided to get 'Glossy Burnt Orange' wrap (like the one behind you 😅) and get a ceramic coating on it to keep it glossy. Can I do a combination of that..?

    • @tesbros
      @tesbros  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Congrats on your Tesla purchase! Yes, you can absolutely put ceramic coating over a wrap. It will actually help protect the wrap in some ways along with keeping it glossy, so it's a win-win.

    If I wrap my tesla, do I need an additional ppf or ceramic coating on top?

    • @tesbros
      @tesbros  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A color wrap doesn’t protect your Tesla so if you do drive a lot on highways and want to protect it, then yes I’d ppf it over the vinyl wrap. Ceramic is always the last to go on and I’d recommend Gtechniq Halo for ceramic coating on vinyl. Ceramic coating doesn’t protect from rock chips though. It’s mostly to give it a glossy wet look.

    @mil3761 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video and very well explained. Is it possible to install PPF on top of Vinyl if it's done at the same time? I'm thinking of the situation where a very unique colour isn't available in the choice of coloured PPF.

    • @tesbros
      @tesbros  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. PPF is perfectly fine to install over vinyl, plus it’ll make your vinyl last much longer

    • @mil3761
      @mil3761 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@tesbros awesome, thanks for the quick reply. So right now my car has somewhat neglected paintwork. I was thinking to get in wrapped in vinyl (so I can also give it a unique painted look), then PPF it and then get ceramic coating on top. I would look to get all 3 done at the same time and each layer would be doing it's own job. Vinyl = for the colour plus a little bit of protection, PPF = for proper protection and ceramic coat = to help keep it looking clean. Hopefully no problem with that thinking? Or will a hydrophobic PPF affect the ceramic coat application?

    • @tesbros
      @tesbros  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mil3761 no that’s very common. I would also look into colored ppf. Stek and gswf has many colors.

  • @thrust_fpv
    @thrust_fpv 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why can't PPF come in different colors or shades?

    • @tesbros
      @tesbros  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does now! STEK is a trailblazer in this as they have different shades for their headlight PPF and they also have red, purple and black. GSWF is another brand well known into the colored PPF. They have a variety of colors. However, it is still fairly new so the colors may be limited right now.

    Do i need to apply ceramic coating before install ppf?

    • @tesbros
      @tesbros  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, ceramic coating should always be last. PPF first, ceramic on top! The reason for this is because PPF doesn't adhere to ceramic coatings.

  • @baileym4708
    @baileym4708 ปีที่แล้ว

    Will ceramic coating help from damaging swirl marks?

    • @tesbros
      @tesbros  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes and no. Ceramic coating is great for reducing micro scratches like swirl marks since it is harder and more durable than your paint. However, it's not scratch proof. A bad car wash can still scratch your ceramic coating. Think of it like a second clear coat. On the other hand, PPF will be fine against swirl marks as it self heals.

    I want to put stripes on my car. What goes first decals, ppf or ceramic coating?

    • @tesbros
      @tesbros  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ceramic coating always goes last due to it's hydrophobic coating. If you have this, the vinyl and PPF won't stick very well. So ideally, it would be stripes, PPF, ceramic coating.

      Avery (graphics.averydennison.com/content/dam/averydennison/graphics/na/en/documents/sell-sheets-and-brochures/color-guide/na-swf-color-card-en.pdf) and 3M (multimedia.3m.com/mws/media/1713013O/wrap-film-brochure-100-colors.pdf) vinyl is typically what I use, and they have several white options. I'd call wrap shops in your area and get some quotes. Price range is $2k-6k. It's a large range because it will depend on a few things like where you live and what kind of car you have/how big it is.
