Do you ever notice how much more attractive someone is when you find out how intelligent, humorous, kind and empathetic they are? And vice versa, someone can be very physically attractive but that dwindles when you find out they are narrow minded, or lacking in a sense of humour, mean spirited, or selfish. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I enjoy watching you guys. My husband has cerebral palsy , he is not as disabled as Shane but it did affect intimacy issues at first. It was trial and error and lots of laughter together. We will be celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary in Oct. When we got married there was really no resources for us , it's nice that you are able to share with others and these days interable couples are more readily accepted.Keep up the great work and keep laughing even now after all these years we can still laugh together. Also I agree with Hannah Shane is an attractive man.

I want to thank you for sharing and for all of your good advice, particularly about NOT paying attention to so-called norms. I'm not physically disabled but sometimes it feels like I carry a lot of emotional baggage that does not serve me well. I feel like I pay too much attention to imaginary expectations and to take them too seriously. And then I forget to use humor - which you describe as being so helpful in so much of your lives. I feel inspired to use it more. Really, your advice is good for all people, disabled or not.

Love you guys, and really like to listen to you talk about your life. I was a little taken back by Hannah’s sassy response in regards to Shane‘s medical condition. Isn’t that the point of your podcast and foundation, to raise awareness? People really don’t know about Shane’s condition, that’s why they’re asking the questions. It’s common knowledge to you as college educated people. But not every person has the same in-depth knowledge that you have about his condition, and the difference between atrophy and dystrophy. I’m sure it’s annoying to get the same questions over and over, but I do believe the people that are viewing your content for the most part are generally kind and curious.

As someone who has been a caregiver to people with disabilities and become disabled myself the best advice I can give someone who's nervous about sex with disabilities is...
Go slow it doesn't have to be everything all at once.
Have fun with it, don't stress if something isn't working just have a laugh and try something else.
Don't be ashamed of your body, if they didn't want to see it they wouldn't be trying for naughty time 😏.
Good communication is so important and so is the imagination, even whispering a naughty story while having fun can drive a partner wild.
Be creative don't dwell on what you can't do but instead think outside the box so to speak.
Toys and good swings harnesses and all sorts of things can actually help when movement and/or mobility is an issue so don't be afraid to get a lil kinky. (always get quality made supportive equipment it's worth the money)
If you have a hired caregiver then don't be embarrassed to ask for help if they aren't prudish, I've set up swings I've charged toys I've helped with sexy clothes and even taken a client to a "special appointment" so he could have some fun because every human needs physical human contact.
Hope this helps someone at least a little bit.

I would love to hear more about recent advocacy for disability rights, as I have grown weary of seeing how often public locations fail to provide access. I have had to miss occasions that were important to me and have grown so frustrated and depressed at constantly fighting for my rights. That’s the initial reason I was drawn to your channel, and while I appreciate your personal love story and am so happy for you both, I would love more content about things we all can do to move things forward for those of us with mobility challenges. Maybe it won’t be as popular and get as many views(?) although I wish it would, because to me, what could be more important than assuring public compliance with a law that was passed over 30 years ago. It is so frustrating and I’m sure you and your followers must agree. Continued happiness in your marriage and life, always, and continue on with your wonderful advocacy.💗

    • @CL-xyz9987
      @CL-xyz9987 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

Mmm yes and no. SMA is a genetic mutation. The brain signals do not get through to the muscles, causing atrophy. It's a neuromuscular disease, neuro (or your nervous system), is brain, spine, and nerves. In his case, his brain IS working properly sending out the signals. All-in-all, it is really a gene problem, not necessarily a brain problem

I wonder if the older lady/waitress was asking because oftentimes you will see someone with a disability eating out with either their parents or a caregiver. Maybe she could feel your closeness when she walked up and thought it would be sweet to see a brother/sister relationship instead of a caregiver one. I bet she meant it when she told you that's amazing after hearing you are married - an even more heartwarming moment than what she thought of before!!! ❤❤ I wish everyone disabled or otherwise had a great family relationship, but sadly that is not the case... even more so when there are special circumstances like allergies, disabilities, etc. which can change what you do together. If only we could universally shift the perception from burden to privilege and I have to ---> I get to... because it really is a beautiful thing to live this life together. 😊

Congratulations on your Anniversary!!! You are a very lovely couple. The IVF process is taxing but a good benefit is you can also do preimplantation genetic testing prior to proceeding if desired. Working in Maternal/Fetal medicine we have had couples do this due to both being carriers of a genetic condition or if it is one that is autosomal dominant. We do have some that choose donor sperm due to both having a rare complication in pregnancy that can be highly likely to have a baby with issues that will not survive after birth. Whatever they choose to do is completely fine and I wish you the very best in your journey whatever you decide to do next. You suit each other well and are beautiful people inside and out.

I love my expartner dearly. I am a disabled person who is also a mother. I live on a care home because i am no longer able to assist myself. We both agreed a long time ago that we loved each other. Sadly these days my daughter's dad and i no longer talk, i rarely see my daughter because she finds visiting me to difficult. As do my family. Life is tough, i truly hope you are able to have a child together. It is worth every single minute. My daughter loves me and i love her, that wont change no matter what and that is what is important.

About the woman at the restaurant who asked if you were related...some people just have to, as a part of how they function in the world, ask the random questions that pop into their minds. It's how they show friendliness. Seemed like she was not judgemental in her reaction, but you being married was a surprise to her. The perfect person to beiefly educate; she will remember it forever!

It still blows my mind how inappropriate people can be to ask you questions about your private experiences. I understand some people may be searching for educational/learning purposes if it's something they're needing advice or guidance for their own journey as a couple with disability perhaps. But, just random strangers out of the blue seeking details to be nosey in your business is absurd and rude. Thank you both for handling those so eloquently when you really shouldn't have to. I think the two of you are amazing and fantastic role models and I just love how your humors work so well together. Sending much love and respect to you both.

Shane and Hannah, I don't know if you will see this, but I just wanted to thank you for something! About 8 months ago you did a video sponsored by Bright Cellars. It sounded interesting to me, so I went to the website and ended up getting a subscription. I've now been enjoying the convenience of having wine delivered to my door for 8 months now.
I don't drink a huge amount, so my deliveries are usually about every 6-7 weeks, rather than monthly. That's the nice thing about it, is you can tailor your subscription to your own taste, and your own frequency. And the wine is AWESOME!
I'm not affiliated with Bright Cellars, just a happy customer! I just wanted to thank you for introducing me to such a fine service! 😊

omg you had a skims ad??????? so proud of you guys!! that is a big sponsor!
also i have a question, given that shanes problem is his nerves and not his muscles, would help him get those electronic machines that make the muscle contract (like exercise) with external imput? i know that wouldt help his movility but keep the muscles a bit trained i guess, maybe having more muscles would just be unconfortable for his day to day life, idk, just asking lol have a nice week

I too wish that was a term when mine was alive also. So sorry for your loss. My sweetie was a quadriplegic and we had 10 amazing years and were blessed with a miracle daughter thanks for modern medicine. It would have been His 61st birthday on September 20. He is so missed by all that knew him.
