      +VFN991 I'd assume surprisingly little. Armor does a good job of protecting someone from the blunt force, and I'd expect more issues associated with whiplash than actual broken limbs.

    Wow, this is an actual sport? Sure beats LARPing.
    I assume those weapons are blunt. Of course, I would also assume that actual blunt weapons like clubs and maces would be banned since those could do actual damage to you while in armor.

    • @timpilba
      @timpilba 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      no, they're not banned, just "restricted" in terms of size and weight. In fact you can also see a couple of them in this video...
      just search for "battle of the nations" or "historical medieval battle rules" and it'll show some more examples. ^^
      pd: why is everyone in need to compare larping with reenactment (also HMB)? Larp is only an extention to roleplaying games, so it's only playing the role of a character with no end pre-decided and usually fantastic themes and THETRICAL games and reenactment is take situations and forms of live of real history, making it the most accurately possible. they both are NOT the same.

    I know it is only sport, but those type of fights are way closer to real combat then HEMA.

    • @sunnmringenriksheim7812
      @sunnmringenriksheim7812 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would disagree. Yes this is much more brutal to the eye, but in a real fight between trained warriors would look nothing like this. The heavy strikes to the torso and the helmet would not at all be harmful in a real fight. The strikes and stabs done in HEMA are maybe more soft and done with more care, but those teckniques would prove fatal done with more force.

    • @Patryk....
      @Patryk.... 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      sunnmøringen Riksheim In the real fight most important is mental aspect. If you shit your pents, even with superb technique you are gone. If you can manage it then physical aspect comes to play, then we can talk about effective technique. HEMA focuses only on technique and lots of them are to complex to implemented in real combat.

    • @sunnmringenriksheim7812
      @sunnmringenriksheim7812 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair point your making. I suppose if you took the average HEMA practitioner against the average SCA practitioner then the SCA would win in armoured combat. I still would place a button on HEMA if the practitioner was competent and experienced if he were to face an equally experienced SCA fighter. Both armoured and unarmoured. Although HEMA focuses a lot on techniqe they also do quite a lot of full speed sparring. More than most martial arts disciplines.

    Can Anyone explain the rules? I can only find polish websited which explain them, but google-translator isn't much of a help there. I would assume that stabbing is prohibited?

    • @PainstakingPole
      @PainstakingPole 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      The rules are fairly simple. There are two teams, each consisting of 5 knights. Everyone wears heavy armor typical for late 14th-early 15th century. All weapons are blunt. You score points by knocking down enemy knights. By knocking down I mean: making them fall on the ground, making them lose part of their armor or throwing them behind barriers surrounding the arena.
      The fight itself isn't a perfect simulation of medieval warfare, simply because of the weapons' bluntness. In a real scenario you would try to penetrate enemy's armor with a warhammer-type of weapon or thrust your sword into the gap between armor plates. You can't really do that here. However it also shows us things that we rarely see in movies or even reconstructions - the importance of using your momentum and all those "cheap tricks" that were part of medieval warfare. What's more it gives us a rough understanding of how tacitics in small skirmishes used to look like (in essence - the first group that loses it's integrity is usually the first to start losing people).

    • @Hastur101
      @Hastur101 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @gavinjenkins899
      @gavinjenkins899 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jihad Joe Armor is not particularly clunky, but they are indeed shit at using those weapons. I saw like 3 parries the entire time, pretty much nobody was using their shield intelligently, guys with polearms were routinely standing behind the group of swordsmen looking useless holding them up in the air, random leaping suicidally into a crowd of enemies (which people reacted to by going ERMAGERD! and panicking or just standing there), hardly anybody was supporting their comrades, especially noticeable when people are getting bashed from behind like every 3 seconds because they neither held a line nor paired back to back NOR raised visors, nothing at all to compensate, just stumble blindly around until you get knocked out randomly. Silliness.
      Good fun, I'm sure, terrible way to actually fight.

      Worrun Nope. This is how you think they fought. The most common way of attacking with a sword is stabbing, which obviously is banned in this sport because even with those dull weapons and with all armors, it can still be dangerous. In a real fight, there wouldn't be so much of those tackles kicking with the sole over the enemy because the attacker would be uncovered and very prone to be get stabbed.
