Meh, with the straight pipe sounds like a normal 4 cylinder diesel with a straight pipe. Yeah its louder and the turbos can be heard better. But you wouldn't know its a V10 if there wasn't a badge on the trunk. With the X pipe in the higher RMP you can definitely hear that it's not a regular diesel engine. If they make the X pipe bigger it would be louder.

Pull the sound deadening off the firewall, and use a half-moon ratchet wrench to get at the nuts on the back of the turbos. The cats will come out with the engine in the car. Worst case, you might have to drop the front subframe and diff. Still easier than dropping the whole engine out. Hope this helps!

I have never seen any benefit to an x-pipe at the tailpipe. No scavenge effect back there but an awful lot of gas trying to get through one pipe diameter now. Surely a nice balance pipe at the front somewhere would be the best of both worlds.

X pipe keeps natural back pressure to keep the engine in torq power but slows the Rev of the engine
Straight pipe less back pressure allowing the engine to Rev more freely at the expense of less torq power
Both options won’t matter to much for normal road use fast road use is where the design and decision to straight or x pipe

Yeah, you definitely cut the X too deep. 1/3 of each pipe should be cut, not 1/2. For matched flow you should pretty much go by the 4/3 diameter rule. If two pipes are joining into one, the one pipe needs to be bigger otherwise you get a restriction. this is only for stuff after the headers/downpipe, though. Headers are a different game that you can't really use general rules on.
