I own a 4x4 and greatly prefer it over the 3x3. Still packs down nice and small, has enough grommets that if you had too much material you could finagle something, and I have had time and time again been glad to have the extra area either to cover a picnic table for the family or have the room to set up a drying line in the back for floating trip gear. I recommend them to everyone and have bought a 4x4 for a few pals who camp with their families as well (we are all in Alaska).
I bought the 4 x 4 as I like a floor in my tent so I figure the more material (within reason weight wise) I have the better. I think DD has a 3.5x3.5 as well for those who are torn between getting the 3x3 and the 4x4.
The footprint on a 4 x 4 meters tarp in this configuration should be 2 x 2.8 meters, which is very large. Simple geometry. That thing you thought you'd never need when you went to school, hahah. The footprint of a 3 x 3 tarp should be 1.5 x 2.12 meters. If you consider angled sides and sleeping headspace that you will need, the 3 x 3 configuration may be too short for a taller person. But if you lay diagonally in a 3 x 3 you should have a lot of space as that diagonal is 2.59 meters. So that would accommodate for head and shoulders needs for a tall person. I like this pitch. I just wish tarps had tie-outs in a square grid on all sides, that would make them even more awesome than they already are.
So now I have to buy a 4x4m Alton Ultalight tarp as my 3x3m is no longer big enough. I hope you'r proud of yourself! Luckily for you the Alton stuff is awesome and very good quality. Liked and subbed.
What does "4 x 4" mean??? Is that 4 inches? Is thst 4 feet? Is that 4 yards? Is that 4 meters? Is that 4 centimeters? Is that 4 steps? You may say about what " 4 X 4" means! Perhaps I am just stupid!
Sure looks quick enough - been wondering about getting either the 3x3 or 4x4 tarps from DD, so this helps.

Nice. A great rain stopper. I’ve been looking at the separate inners with bugnet and bathtub floors. The two together with make a hell of a summer rig
They sure do,
Nice😊thanks
Your on a roll Quinn
Looks great. Must give it a go.
Very handy
Throw it over a 3.3 and give yourself a 1-2m awning, slide back equally when finished.
Nice
now use your 3x3 for a ground cloth. folding the edges up on the inside.
Yes, but I don't like doing that, I think it's too easy to puncture it

Could you put this tent up without a ridge line, maybe using two walking poles one at the front and one at the back?
That would work great I think , I'll try it
@@RedBranchBushcraft either internally or externally?
@keithorbell8946 both would work
This is useful!
Cheers buddy
It would work great for 3 people. I go with the 3x3 for 1 or 2 people. Regardless, tarps are excellent.
They are such a versatile piece of gear
Love your videos. Do you have an affiliate link for the DD 4x4 tarp, or will clicking through to the DD store from the 3x3 link work for you. Cheers
I don't have any affiliate links for DD at all , only lomo I think , same thing but a little cheaper
